  • Club History

Welcome to Oadby Owls Football Club.

Founded in 1968 by some enthusiastic Sheffield Wednesday supporters, hence the name, Oadby Owls Football Club has grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs in Leicestershire today.

The club owes a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers over the intervening years but perhaps none more so than our late President John Monks who ensured the survival of the club with injections of his own cash during the difficult times of the 1980′s.

In 2007 the club achieved Charter Standard status and with joint funding by the Football Foundation and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council the ‘John Monks Pavilion’ was opened.  The pavilion marked a new era for Oadby Owls and player numbers swelled considerably. Oadby Owls now fields 35 teams of all ages and runs a thriving Saturday Football Academy where upto 250 young children attend each week. Oadby Owls also organises some of the best tournaments in the country. The club has since progressed in becoming a Charter Standard Community Club.

The club adopts high standards and would like to pay tribute to all its 100+ volunteers for their perseverance and hard work. We also thank and praise our many sponsors who have given generously over many seasons.

As well as developing the football skills of its members, Oadby Owls positively promotes and interacts with local community initiatives.

Oadby Owls is run on an entirely voluntary basis and there is always a need for a fresh influx of helpers and ideas. The future success of the club depends on its members as we strive to become one of the best clubs in the country.

With no football there was only one thing to do……

With all football cancelled this weekend young Jack Burton of the Under 7 Snowys decided he needed a team mate to go in goal!

We look forward to some sunshine and warmer weather for next weekend.

For further information on joining Oadby Owls please refer to our Academy page

Any parent wishing to help out at the Academy is asked to contact Rob or Tony. The club will ensure a CRB is applied for and provide the appropriate guidance. It is very rewarding and the club cannot operate without its valued volunteers

With the cold weather upon us I would just like to take the opportunity of promoting the Clubshop which is open each Saturday at the Academy and via email to myself. Experience has shown that if a child is feeling the cold or is wet through then he/she will just not enjoy the football that is available to them. We have a variety of items that will keep them warm not least gloves, sweatshirts, hoodys, rainjackets and my personal recommendation to everyone, base layer.

The clubs merchandise directory gives a composite list of what is available and we provide for children of all ages as well as adults. Some of these items make fantastic Christmas gifts but I advise an early order to ensure receipt in time for that magical day.

The club operates a football boot scheme whereby outgrown football boots in a clean and reasonable condition can be left at the club for others to benefit. Children’s feet grow so quickly and it really is a waste just to throw them away. This initiative has served so many children well over the years.

In order that you receive information about the club at the earliest point please email me at robfarrar@oadbyowls.com and I will add you to my distrinbution list.

Oadby Owls Under 9 Snowys were given a special treat by Oadby Town on Saturday 19th November when they were invited to lead the team out in the 2nd Round of the FA Vase against local rivals St Andrews.

The children were really well looked after. On arrival they had a team photograph taken and a kick about on the pitch.

They were shown around the changing rooms and met all of the Oadby Town players. The team then escorted Oadby Town out onto the pitch and shook hands with all the players and officials in line with the Respect campaign.

The team watched the first half with great interest and benefited in learning about positional play and communication between the players. In the 32nd minute the team cheered with delight as they saw Oadby take the lead with a brilliant volley from Jon Stevenson.

At half time Oadby Owls Snowys got to enjoy a penalty shoot out in the full size goals. It must have been quite daunting for goalkeeper Henry standing beneath an 8ft high crossbar! As the players took their individual penalties their names were announced on the tannoy system. Each child was greeted with cheers and applause from the watching crowd.

The children had a day that they will probably never forget. What a great experience. Many thanks Oadby Town and in particular to Club Chairman Brian Warrington, whose son plays for our under 16′s.
