Another Tough Game for the Owls

It was a very tight game for the Owls. We started off by conceding but quickly equalised with a great goal by Skye.

We then went 2-1 up with a goal from Libby who made it 3-1 with an amazing goal which went into the top corner of the net.

We made it 4-1 before Leicester managed to get a few goals back and equalise. It got very tight but we kept pushing to get 2 more goals with the help of our new player Amira.

The game was very challenging for the Owls but we managed to end it 6-4. Overall a good result for the Owls.

A Loss Despite a Good Performance

A tough game this one for the Owls, with a muddy pitch, this was always going to hinder the Owls passing game.

The starting line-up was Alice in goal, Maya, Rose & Mya in defence, Ellie, Simi, Kiran & Laura in midfield and Skye, Neve & Amira up front. Farnaz, Kylie, Libby & Nina made up the bench.

The Owls started the game brightly in the first half with some excellent passing throughout the team. The Owls created many chances, however they just could not put the ball in the back of the net and were made to pay for this when Coalville scored and this is how it stayed until the end of the half.

In the second half Coalville were more fluid and scored another 3 goals, all of which were linked to the Owls giving the ball away and not tracking back.

On her debut for the Owls Amira did manage to score a good goal in the second half and the Owls created several chances, and were unfortunate not to score.

Overall it was one of our better performances and we were a bit unlucky not to get a better result.

Owls back to winning ways!

Team

Karishma in Goal.

Defence. Maya, Kylie, Mya.

Midfield. Ellie, Simi, Alice, Laura.

Forwards. Skye, Libby, Farnaz.

Sub. Neve. 5 players unavailable this week.

First Half

Another slow start for the Owls, after 10mins the girls warmed up and started to create some chances, Skye has the first shot at goal which is saved by their keeper, moments later Libby has a couple of chances, one just going over the bar and the other smashing against the bar and bouncing down.

Soon after Asfordby go on the attack which results in them winning a free kick on the edge of our area, the kick is a high ball that just drops under the bar, the first goal goes to Asfordby and their first for this season. 1-0.

The Owls react well and press from the kick off, Alice takes a shot but just misses, a few minutes before half time Libby controls high ball on the edge of their area, turns, goes past a defender and slots the ball in the bottom corner. 1-1 at half time.

Second Half

The second half starts well, not only creating chances but being defensively strong as well with the back 3 playing great.

A big throw from Neve for Simi to run onto, leads to her getting tackled just inside their area, Skye picks up the stray ball, goes around one player and shoots. Goal! 1-2 to the Owls.

More chances fall for the Owls with shots from Simi, Alice and Kylie all just wide, then after a bit of scramble in their box, Skye chips the ball into the back of the net. 1-3 Owls.

Asfordby go on a rare attack which leads to a good shot, Karishma makes a great save and tips the ball wide for a corner. From their corner, we break, Simi receives the ball and runs straight for goal and tucks the ball into the net. 1-4 Owls.

Now in control of the game, the chances keep coming, Alice gets the ball, goes past 2 of their defenders and then smashes the ball into the goal from close range, 1-5 to the Owls!

Moments later the ball comes to Laura who is now up front, she controls the ball well and has a go at goal, she shoots, she scores! 1-6 to The Owls.

The final whistle blows. A great second half performance throughout the whole team, a lot of good passing football played, which resulted in a convincing win.

A tough game for the Owls

The Owls started with Karishma in goal, a back three of Lauren, Rose and Maya, the wing backs were Ellie and Laura, the centre midfielders were Maya and Mya, Neve was playing in the number 10 role and Simi and Libby were up front. Ruth and Farnaz started on the bench.

Many of the Owls players were playing out of position due to non-availability and Illness of some key players.

The game started slowly with both teams assessing the opposition. The game was kicked into life when the Owls started to play through balls from midfield to Simi and Libby. One of these balls lead to a corner which was taken by Ellie, the ball went to the near post where Libby had positioned herself perfectly to stroke the ball into the back of the net.

This made Groby get on the front foot and were pressing forward with their quick forward line up and it wasn’t long before the pressure paid dividends. A through ball from defence was raced onto by their attacker who managed to slot it past Karishma to make it one all. Groby were now on top and managed to score another goal in the same fashion making it 2-1 at half time.

The second half started with Groby causing the tiring Owls team quite a few problems but some gallant defending and great positioning from Karishma kept the score at 2-1 for a while. The pressure finally told when Groby managed to get a shot off in the box, Karishma pulled of a great save but unfortunately a Groby player followed to make it 3-1.

This lead to a fight back from the Owls with a shot going in on goal which the Groby keeper was unable to hold and with Simi following up made it 3-2. Owls were now playing with a bit more energy and from another through ball were able to make it 3-3 with a great finish from Libby.

The Owls were exhausted at this stage but kept going but unfortunately conceded a fourth goal making the final score 4-3 to Groby.

A difficult game for the Owls with many changes but were slightly unlucky to lose the game.

East Goscote Vs Under 15 Girls

A good start for the Owls!

A bright day greeted the players for the first game of the season against East Goscote at Wreake Valley Academy.

The Owls started their first 11 a side game with Alice in goal, Maya Rose and Mya in defence. In midfield was Ellie, Kiran, Kylie and Laura, Neve as attacking midfielder and Simi & Libby as centre forwards. The subs were Nina, Lauren, Skye and Karishma.

The Owls started really, with several good passing moves that put the East Goscote team under pressure. It wasn’t long before the Owls won a corner, which Libby took and hit a defender before coming out to Kylie who made a good contact to send the ball into the top corner to open the scoring.

Soon after Rose made a fantastic pass straight through the east Goscote midfield and defence for Simi to run onto. Simi picked up the ball and with a good bit of skill rounded the keeper to score and make it 2-0 to the Owls.

Next another inch perfect pass from Kylie found its way to Simi who struck the ball firmly to make an excellent shot to make it 3-0 to the Owls at half time.

In the second half, the Owls lost their concentration for a bit and Goscote went straight through the midfield & defence to score their first goal of the game.

The Owls then got their mojo back with a long throw in from Neve making its way through several bodies within the Goscote goal area. A defensive tap from a Goscote player went to Kiran who calmly side footed the ball into the net to get the Owls 4th goal of the game.

A bit further out this time, but similar in the result. Neve made a long throw to Rose who took the ball past a Goscote player and then struck the ball well to score the final goal of the game.

Unfortunately, the game had to finish early due to a Goscote player being concussed and taken away in an ambulance. A sad end to an otherwise excellent game.

The Owls performed really well and if they keep this up they will do well this season.

Everyone at the Owls wish Lucy of East Goscote a speedy recovery from her injury. It’s always a bit scary when someone is injured, especially when they’re in some much pain.
