The Owls work hard for a well earned win!

The sun was out and it was good weather to play Groby Ladies, at Groby Community College.

The Owls started with Alice in goal, Katie and Mya as centre halves. The wingbacks were Laura and Rose, central midfield was Holly and Neve and centre forwards were Eva and Erin. Unfortunately we had no subs for this game.

The Owls set off great, with the whole team pressuring Groby constantly. This worked a treat for Oadby Owls, getting there first goal out of a corner. Neve crossed the ball to Eva’s feet, with Eva tapping it into the back of the net.

At the 26th minute, Eva scored a second goal, to make it 0-2. Some nice passing was done by Holly and Rose, and then Holly made a good pass to Laura on the right, who crossed it in over some heads so Eva could run onto the ball and chest/shoulder it in.

Groby also put some pressure on both Mya and Katie who dealt with it by doing some great tackles. The half-time whistle blew leaving the score at 0-2.

After a good team talk, Oadby pressured for another corner, which Erin crossed well towards the front post. Unluckily for Groby, the defender couldn’t quite get her foot on the ball, causing the ball to roll in.

Soon after that, Oadby lost concentration, allowing Groby to score a goal, which Alice almost got her hands on. A few minutes later, Groby got another good goal from a little mistake made earlier on.

With that in mind, Neve did some great foot work and managed to cross the ball into Eva, who timed her run perfectly to volley the ball and smash it into the back of the net! It was a great goal - well done Eva.

A great controlled performance from all the team, especially given that everyone had to play for the full game without any subs.

Top two Clash for the first time

A heavy dew greeted the Owls for their first game against the high flying FC Aztecs. The Owls lined up with Katie & Mya in defence, Laura & Rose as wing backs, Kiran & Neve in midfield and Erin & Eva up front, with Ellie & Holly as subs.

The game started with a positive start from both teams. FC Aztec are at the top of the table for a reason, they’re a good team. From the off it was evident that they had some very capable players who could do real damage to the Owls if they were complacent. Fortunately the girls set off as though they meant business. Both Katie & Mya looked strong in defence and Kiran & Neve controlled the midfield with some good passing moves. Laura & Rose worked hard to both attack and defend in equal measure, whilst both Erin & Eva pressed hard for a breakthrough.

Unfortunately, the first goal of the game went to the Aztecs, with a fine passing move and a crisp shot that left Alice with no chance. Not to be deterred, the Owls kept their heads up and started to get more possession of the ball, and pressured the Aztec defence.

The next goal was for the Owls, who had started to get their passing game together. The link up play between the midfield duo of Neve & Kiran and Laura, Rose, Erin & Eva was a joy to watch, even the Aztec manager comments on this during the game.

All the hard running was starting to take its toll, and Holly came on for Erin who had to run very hard. Holly went on as a wing back and Laura replaced Erin up front. Holly made an immediate impact and stopped a number of attacks along the flanks.

The next passing move allowed Eva to get a bit of space in the penalty area, so when the ball came to her she was able to sweep it into the back of the net to make it 1 – 1 at half time.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first with the Aztecs controlling the ball well. A special mention must go to Kiran who was forced to man mark their number 10, who was orchestrating most of the Aztecs good play.

The Owls didn’t seem to be fazed by any of the early pressure from the Aztecs and upped their game by working even harder. As the Owls got more possession, they started to play more in the Aztecs half and after a period of sustained pressure from Erin & Eva, the Aztecs conceded a corner. Neve took the corner and placed it right inside the near post, where the defender made a valiant effort to stop it, however unfortunately turned into her own net, 2-1 Owls.

As the Owls started to tire Ellie replaced Laura to let her get a breather The game was by no means over though. Aztecs came flying out the blocks again and caught the Owls cold with a quick goal to make the score 2-2.

Right to the end it was end to end stuff, with both Alice and the Aztec goalkeeper making some fine saves. A great performance from both teams. The return fixture in couple of weeks should be an equally thrilling game to watch!

League

Probably the best performance of the season so far!

The Owls faced an East Goscote side that had narrowly missed out on a result the week before against this seasons in form and team to beat "FC Aztec".

First Half

Oadby started the match better than expected and Erin poked in off a corner after just a few minutes making the score 1-0. With Chaira & Mya in defence and a midfield four of Rose, Neve, Eva & Laura, the Owls set off purposely right from the start. Ten minutes later Erin did an excellent header off another good corner from Neve making the score 2-0 (Something the management had clearly been working on in training!). Another four or five minutes was played and off a throw in Erin turned from just outside the box and rattled the post, Laura was luckily there to slot yet another away for the Owls and make it 3-0. Erin then completed her hat-trick by latching on to a fantastic cross from Eva making it 4-0.

East Goscote then came back into the game with some good work all over the pitch, which resulted in a corner. East Goscote took advantage and scored from the resulting corner making the score 4-1.

Simi then scored a contender for goal of the season taking the ball from well inside her own half running the length of the pitch and slotting low in to the keepers corner making the score 5-1. After 20 mins, Ellie, Holly & Ruth came on to replace Laura, Neve & Rose. The girls continued where the others left off, as the Owls continued to control the game. The Owls hadn't yet finished and Eva completed the first half with her first of the game making it 6-1.

Second Half

The second half started a lot slower and East Goscote came out with a great fighting spirit breaking up Oadby's play very well!

It took until nearly half way through the second half until the Owls scored again with what was a fantastic run down the line from Eva and a shot from a narrow angle enhancing the score to 7-1.

The final goal came roughly ten minutes before the close where Ruth took advantage of a loose ball in the box slotting home in to the corner.

The final score line of 8-1 doesn't flatter this squad of girls at all and is a true reflection of how well they played today from the keeper all the way through the squad to the goal scorers.

East Goscote are a good team, however today Oadby were outstanding and put in probably their best performance of the season so far!

Congratulations to this week’s girl of the match "Ruth" who also scored her first goal of the season for the Owls!

I've not seen many matches this season but every time I watch the girls they seem to improve. The girls have a great camaraderie and work well as a team.

Good luck girls for the rest of the season.....not that you should need it ;-)

League Cup

Close game against a decent side

In the 1st round of League Cup the Owls draw Blaby Bullets, a team that they had never played before and therefore an unknown opponent.

The Owls lined up with a number of players playing out of position e.g. Erin/Neve/Eva in goal, Simi in defence, Mya on the wing and Alice & Laura up front.

The game started with a positive start from both teams. Both Simi & Katie looked strong in defence and Kiran & Holly took control of the game. However, after a while Blaby started to look good with some good passing from their midfield. However, after a stretch of possession, the Owls took control and a succession of shots from Alice, Ellie, Rose & Ruth made an Oadby goal look inevitable. However, the Blaby defence remained resolute and with some good saves from the goalkeeper, the teams went in at half time 0-0.

The second half began with wholesale changes for the Owls team, with most players either being subbed or swapping positions.

Once again the Owls started brightly, passing the ball out of defence through to the midfield and beyond. This time they were able to make an indent in the Blaby defence, with the midfield beating their counterparts. It wasn’t long before shots from Erin & Kiran made the goal keeper make some really good saves. Soon after, a good move from the Owls left Kiran with time to pull off a great right footed shot to score the first goal of the game.

Going behind seemed to inspire the Blaby team to improve their game and create some good passing moves plus a couple of shots to test Neve in goal. It wasn’t long before one such move broke through the Owls defence leaving a one on one with the goal keeper, which was coolly slotted into the right hand side of the Owls goal to make it 1-1.

This made the Owls up their game with much more sustained pressure down the flanks with Holly, Laura & Mya making a real impression on the game. The deciding goal was given to Alice for the brilliant work she did in an unfamiliar role up front.

A good performance from both teams. Roll on the next round against AFC Leicester!

Tough game against a good team!

It was a cold and windy morning in Loughborough, very bitter with the wind chill.

The Owls had their full squad available including Ellie for moral support. Owls started with Alice in goal, Mya and Katie as centre halves, Rose and Eva as the wingbacks, Kiran and Neve in the centre of midfield with Simi and Erin playing upfront.

Loughborough are a strong team with good technical ability. The game started with Owls showing their strength and power by making good progress into the opposition half but the cold and bitter wind was having an impact on the overall quality of the play. Both teams were struggling with the conditions and the recent lack of matches.

Owls had a couple decent efforts from range from Simi and Erin but the Loughborough keeper was more than up for the challenge. The Owls managed to get a corner which was taken by Neve, the ball came loose in the box and Erin was first to react and put the Owls into the lead.

The game had turned very scrappy and during one of the challenges for the loose ball Eva got winded and had to come for a rest and was replaced by Chiara.

Around 15 minutes into the first half Owls decided to use their substitutes, Ruth, Laura and Holly replaced Mya, Katie and Kiran.

Loughborough were now getting into their stride and causing the Owls defence quite a lot of trouble. Fortunately the Owls were able to keep the score at one-nil till at half time.

The second half started in the same way as the end of the first, with Loughborough attacking and running at the Owls defence. Some good defending and good saves from Alice kept them at bay. The Owls were under the cosh but kept running and working hard in the difficult conditions.

With 15 minutes gone in the second half the substitutions were made, off came Laura, Ruth, Chiara and Holly for a well-earned rest and on came Eva, Mya, Rose and Kiran. The fresh legs made a difference and from a well-rehearsed throw in routine, Neve took the long throw for Erin to flick on to Eva who scored the second goal for the Owls. Two-nil Owls!

Owls managed to hold on to the final whistle. Not their best game but sometimes you have to play ugly to get a result. Well done to the whole squad in very cold and bitter conditions.

Great Owls performance on a heavy pitch!

Starting line up: Alice (GK) & Captain. Holly, Chiara,Neve,Kieran,Laura,Rose,Simi & Erin.

Subs: Mya,Ruth & Eva.

First home game of the New year played on a heavy pitch. Bright start from the home side sees Oadby take the lead on 7 minutes with a right foot shot from Erin. Two minutes later a left foot shot from the same player brings out a fantastic save from the opposition Goalkeeper. Great passing move on 15 minutes sees another quality save from a similar Erin drive.

East Goscote break and force a corner which fortunately comes to nothing. Another attack from the visitors is denied firstly by a great tackle from Chiara and a follow up save from Alice. On 22 minutes the East Goscote team think they have found an equaliser only for the fine finish to be ruled offside.

Ruth comes on up front for Erin with Eva and Mya replacing Laura & Rose. A strong run and determined finish from Chiara makes it 2-0 to the home side at half time.

2nd half begins with Oadby on top and a fine through ball from Eva puts Simi away for a cool strike to make it 3-0.

38 minutes in and an East Goscote offside leads to an Oadby break with Eva coming close to adding a 4th.

Two minutes later and it is 4-0 with Simi claiming a 2nd goal. Holly and Mya are keeping things tight with Neve playing an excellent holding midfield role.

The final changes are made and instantly Rose hits the post with an excellent long range shot on 42 mins. Shortly after a superb strike from 30 metres sees Erin make it 5-0. With just 5 minutes to go Erin coolly slots home her 3rd and Oadby’s 6th.

A great game with both teams playing some great football!

Owls start 2016 on good form!

On a cold but sunny Sunday afternoon Oadby, after long Xmas break, were playing their first game back. Owls had 3 players missing in Katie, Kiran and Chiara so were reduced to only 10 players on the day. The team was Alice in goal, Mya and Hollie at the back with Laura and Rose as wing backs, Neve holding midfield, Eva attacking midfielder and Erin and Simi upfront with Ruth starting of has sub.

After about 5 minutes Eva breaks down the right plays an inch perfect pass across the Anstey defence into Simi's path who coolly shoots and scores to open the scoring. 1-0 to Oadby .This pattern continues throughout the first half with Oadby dominating possession and chances on goal. Another chance just misses when Rose breaks down the left, shoots and clips the crossbar.

In the next attack Rose breaks down the left and passes to Eva who in turn passes to Erin who shoots to score. Great football by Oadby to make the score line 2-0 to Oadby.

After about 15 minutes of play Oadby have a throw in on the Anstey left hand side where Erin throws to Eva who in turn gives the ball back to Erin who thunder bolts a cross shot into the bottom left corner of Anstey’s goal. What a goal, 3-0 to Oadby.

Anstey’s first attack comes after about 20 minutes when their number 6 narrowly shoots wide of Alice’s left hand post. Oadby carry on dominating the game with Simi putting an inch perfect through ball to Erin who shoots just wide. On the half hour mark Ruth comes on for Laura, Simi switches to the right hand side with Ruth upfront. On Oadby's next attack Simi breaks down their right hand side put a telling through ball on for Erin to run onto who shoots to score. 4-0 Owls.

On Oadby’s next attack Eva goes on amazing run to dribble past 4 of Anstey’s players and brings a save from the Anstey keeper. That brings an end to the first half with Oadby winning 4-0.

In the second half, Oadby carry on piling on the pressure with a throw in from Neve to Eva who shoots but this is saved by their goal keeper. The pattern of play slowly changes as Anstey put their game together with Anstey’s number 10 breaking through and shooting, but Alice makes a good save. Oadby subs Rose on for Simi on our left wing. Anstey's number 11 then breaks through but the dogged Neve tracks back and clears the danger. Next Erin has a one on one with the Anstey Keeper, but narrowly shoots wide. Soon after Eva’s shot is also saved by their keeper.

With Oadby's midfield tiring Anstey's number 10 barges through Oadby's defence, however Alice pulls a stunning one handed save to her left. Oadby have a throw in on their left hand side, which is taken by Neve to Eva who calmly shoots to score, 5-0 to Oadby.

After 15 minutes Anstey’s number 11 breaks down the left and shoots but hits Oadby’s cross bar, however she collects the rebound and scores to make it 5-1.

On Anstey's next attack their number 10 finds herself in space on Oadby’s left hand side and curls in an amazing shot to Alice's left, 5-2 to Oadby.

The game then comes to a close with both tired looking teams still creating chances. Well done to both teams, not easy on their first game back after along break.

Owls come good!

The rain cleared for the Owls first afternoon game of the season against Cosby! The Owls started with a different formation with Alice in goal, Mya and Ruth at the back, wingbacks were Laura and Simi, central midfield was Holly and Katie and centre forwards were Rose and Neve. With Chiara, Eva & Kiran away Erin was the only sub.

Both sides started well, however the Owls struggled to find their rhythm with so many of the team playing in unfamiliar positions. It wasn’t long though until some of the work in training paid off, with some nice work from Ruth & Mya to pass down the left flank for Simi to run onto. Simi then made a really good pass into the channel between the Cosby defenders, which Rose ran onto and hit with a firm strike to open the scoring with her first goal for the Owls.

It wasn’t long until Cosby started to pass the ball around the midfield and get through to the Owls defence. Both Mya & Ruth made some good defensive tackles, however the ball fell to a Cosby player who slotted it home to make the score 1-1. And this is how it stayed until half time. The girls put in a real shift in the first half, however some were feeling a little out of place in the different positions they were being asked to play in so, the Owls reverted back to their more familiar positions for the second half with Erin coming on to replace Mya.

The Owls set off better in the second half, with a number of good runs to put the Cosby under pressure. It wasn’t long before the pressure paid off with a good shot from Simi causing a partial save from the goalkeeper, which Simi then finished off with ease. This was followed up with some good passing moves from Holly & Neve in the midfield, which again put Simi through to score her second goal of the day. Soon after it was Neve’s turn to open her account with the Owls, with a good firm strike from midfield to beat the Cosby Goalkeeper.

All the time, the pressure was mounting on Cosby; however they had a couple of surprises of their own with 2 goals scored out of nowhere. Not to be deterred, the Owls continued to pass the ball well down the flanks with Rose getting the better of the right midfield. In one such move, Rose made a good tackle and stole the ball from the Cosby midfield; she then passed the ball through to Simi who slid the ball past the Cosby Goalkeeper. A great hat trick for Simi!

To round the game off the heavens opened, however Oadby made one last move up the left flank with a shot from Erin being pushed out by the Cosby defender for an Owls corner. Having won it, Erin took the corner and planted the ball straight into the top right hand corner of the Cosby goal.

The game finished 6-3 to the Owls. A great performance which showed just how well the girls can play.

Owls pull through!

On Sunday, 29th November, Oadby Owls had an away fixture vs Oadby and Wigston Utd. After a win against them at home just a week before, Oadby Owls were keen to repeat this performance. The weather was far from ideal for a Sunday morning game of football. The girls were taking on the wind, rain and cold temperatures as well as their opponents.

The game opened with some balanced play between the two teams. Five minutes in saw a deflection from an Oadby and Wigston defender and gave the Owls their first corner of the match. This was taken confidently by Ellie but was well defended and cleared by Oadby and Wigston. Some strong attacking by Oadby and Wigston led to Neve’s first challenge of the morning as goal keeper but she competently saved the right footed strike.

The first 15 minutes of play, saw some excellent attacks from the Oadby Owls with Erin, Eva and Chiara all having strong shots at goal. The Oadby and Wigston goal keeper played well, however and the score remained at 0-0.Twenty minutes into the first half and Eva had a blistering shot at goal – once again saved by the Oadby and Wigston goalie. The play went back and forwards with equal momentum for a number of minutes. Ellie’s corner number six was well defended by Oadby and Wigston who quickly shifted the balance of play to attack. The Owls, slipping in the mud in front of their goal, scrambled to keep the ball out of the net but was thankfully, finally saved by Neve. A counter attack down the right wing from Eva and a strong shot at goal went wide of the right post. End of the first half score 0-0.

In the second half, the Owls had the disadvantage of running into the strong wind. With no substitutes available for the match, the effort was beginning to show. Oadby and Wigston started with two consecutive shots at goal, saved by Neve. A counter attack by the Owls saw the Oadby and Wigston goalie coming out of her goal – a great opportunity for the Owls but they just could not finish.

15 minutes into the second half, a hand ball inside the box by one of the Oadby and Wigston defenders gave the Owls a lucky penalty, confidently taken by Erin. 1-0 to the Owls. Oadby and Wigston battled hard but the Owls continued to defend well. 25 minutes in saw some fantastic football by both teams with some superb passing and skills. Laura and Rose worked well together in attack and Erin and Holly passed some great balls to Eva. Katie and Mya were strong in defence and the mid-field worked hard despite the wind. Unfortunately for both teams, the ball could not find the back of the net.

Final score 1-0. A great game of football by both teams. Congratulations to Laura who was named player of the match.

A tough game in difficult conditions!

It was the first really cold day for the Owls game against Oadby & Wigston (O&W), with a slight ground frost to bring out the gloves! The Owls started with Neve in goal, Katie and Holly at the back, wingbacks were Laura and Rose, central midfield was Kiran and Chiara and centre forwards were Simi and Erin. Due to injuries to Alice, Ruth & Eva being away, the only sub was Mya. Both sides started well, however struggled to get their foot on the ball and play any real passing football. In fact, chances were very limited for the whole of the first half with both sides cancelling each other out. Lots of effort was put in by both sides, however real goal scoring chances were thin on the ground and the first half ended 0-0.

The second half was a totally different affair with both sides creating lots of chances. Mya came on for Laura, who had injured her back in the first half. As the game went on the conditions changed. With the air temperature rising, the pitch started to deteriorate significantly. This caused a few problems for both sides with players slipping over all over the pitch.

The Owls set off better in the second half, with a number of surging runs which put the O&W team under pressure. Is wasn’t long until a good pass from Chiara was picked up by Erin, who pushed the ball beyond the oncoming O&W player, who unfortunately caught her foot as she went by. This resulted in a free kick just outside the goal area, which Erin took and scored a great goal in the top right hand corner.

Soon after Rose made a good pass to Chiara, who then moved the ball onto Kiran to open up the midfield. Kiran then made a short pass to Erin who then made a good pass to Simi who controlled the ball and then smashed it goal ward. Despite a good attempted save, the O&W goal keeper was not able to stop it and the ball went in for the Owls second goal.

The game was far from over though. O&W were getting the better of the conditions and made a number of attacks through the now very muddy midfield. Katie & Mya had to work hard to keep O&W at bay. It wasn’t long before one such break resulted in an O&W attacker beating the Owls defence to get clear on goal. Despite Neve being well positioned, the O&W attacker struck the ball hard to her right hand side to score a very well placed goal and make it 2-1.

The game was rounded off with a good passing move from the Owls with Holly passing to Kiran, who passed to Chiara who sped off down the left hand side of the field. She then passed to Erin who made a well measured pass through the O&W defence for Rose & Simi to run onto. The O&W goal keeper made a very brave attempt to smother the ball at the same time as the onrushing attackers went for it. Unfortunately the goalkeeper spilled the ball as a result of the challenge to get the ball, which then fell to Simi who then passed the ball into the O&W goal. The game ended 3-1 with both teams having made it a real contest.

A good game for the Owls despite the conditions, showing their ability to attack and defend as a team.

So, so close!

Some early pressure from Leicester AFC however some good defending from Chiara and Maya keeps AFC at bay. Then in return some early pressure from The Owls. Some good long range shoots from Simi, Erin and Eva and good corners from Niece and Eva keeps the pressure on, against the run of play AFC break away, cross the ball in and score a good goal in 18th minute. Holly then comes on for Kiran and Laura for Neve.

Second half constant pressure from The Owls, hitting both posts, good runs from Rose and Erin, some nice little touches from Laura and Holly. Finally The Owls score through Simi in 25th minute with a great break and shot. Match goes to extra time and in the 5th minute Neve comes on for Laura. Good save from Alice keeps scores level still 1 - 1. Then come the dreaded penalties, which AFC Leicester win 5 – 3. A great performance from all the team, with only the post and the cross bar preventing an Owls win. Oh well, onwards & upwards!!!

A tough game against a very good Oadby and Wigston Utd team!

It was sunny morning in Countesthorpe where Oadby Owls were ready to start their cup campaign for the season 2015/2016. The opponents were Oadby and Wigston United. The Owls started with Alice in goal, Mya and Ruth as centre halves. The wingbacks were Rose and Chiara, central midfield were Neve and Kiran and centre forwards were Simi and Erin. The subs were Eva and Holly who was nursing a back injury.

Owls started slowly and were put under pressure from the new look Oadby and Wigston United team. The home team were first to the ball and were making the Owls pay for their slow start by playing a lot of the first half in the Owls half. Ruth made some good interceptions but Owls could not convert the play into attacking moves. Mya also made a couple of strong challenges and ushered the attacks away from goal. Chiara once again showed great work rate up and down the left side of the pitch. Rose had also covered a lot of ground. These two were substituted for Eva and Holly to give them a breather.

The homes team’s better start paid off when the Owls failed to clear the ball from their penalty area and a weak shot found the corner of the goal in a very congested penalty box. This was the wakeup call that the Owls needed. Owls had a corner and with some great instructions from the manager, Kiran was positioned perfectly to score on the volley direct from the Eva’s corner kick. One all at half time.

The second half started with Chiara and Rose coming back on for Neve and Erin. Erin was now causing all sorts trouble down the left side and creating chances for Simi. Simi had a couple of decent efforts on goal but the away keeper was in good form. Owls were now attacking as a team with Simi, Eva, Erin, Rose and Chiara getting forward at every opportunity and causing problems for the tiring home team. With the Owls defence standing firm with the help of a couple of good saves from Alice, the forwards were getting more and more opportunities and finally Simi managed to get off a shot which nestled in the bottom corner. The final score being two one to the Owls.

Overall slow start by the Owls but finished much stronger and deserved the win.

A great start for the Owls!

A really bright and sunny day greeted the players for the first game of the season against Cosby at Judgemeadow Community College, the Owls new home ground. The Owls started with Alice in goal, Katie and Mya as centre halves. The wingbacks were Laura and Rose, central midfield was Holly and Neve and centre forwards were Simi and Erin. The subs were Eva and Kiran.

The Owls set off like they meant business, with a number of surging runs that put the Cosby team under pressure. Is wasn’t long until a good pass from Erin was picked up by Simi with her back to goal, who then turned and shot to score a great opening goal. This was followed up by an unfortunate goal keeping mistake, which Simi pounced on to make it 2-0 to the Owls.

In the 15th minute, the Owls make some changes with Eva & Kiran coming on for Laura and Rose. By now, Cosby are starting to come into the game and make some nice passing moves of their own. However, soon after the substitutions, Erin breaks through a tackle and makes a short pass to Eva, who pushes the ball to her right before making a good finish to score her first goal of the season. Almost immediately after the kick off, the Owls switch off and it isn’t long before Cosby make another decent move through their midfield and score a good goal to make it 3-1.

On the run up to half time, the Owls start to take control of the game again and show another side to their game. Neve makes an excellent long throw in to Eva, who coolly side foots the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-1. This is quickly followed up with a good passing move from Holly, Kiran & Neve, who make a series of passes that end up at Simi’s right foot, which Simi uses to score the final goal of the half to make it 5-1 at half time.

To start the second half a couple of substitutions are made with Neve & Holly being replaced by Laura & Rose. Within minutes, the Owls have their passing game in full effect, with passes from Mya, Simi & Laura making it all the way along the left flank before Simi’s shot is blocked by the Cosby defence, only for the ball to come out to Laura, who smashes it into the back of the net. Cosby are by no means out of it and they show what a good passing side they can be. Only some excellent defending from Mya, Holly & Katie, plus some excellent goal keeping from Alice keeps Cosby from scoring. However it isn’t long before Cosby make a great move from end to end, which beats the Owls defence to make it 6-2.

Another move out of defence by Katie, who makes a great pass down the wing to Rose, who switches the ball to Laura on the left, which opens up the field for the Owls. Laura then exchanges passes with Simi, before making a good pass to Eva, who scores with a powerful strike to make it 7-2 to the Owls.

The Owls now move up a gear with some excellent play down the flanks. Rose now had the measure of her markers and was able to beat them almost at will. In the 50th minute Rose beats her marker to make an excellent cross for Laura to tap in at the far post. This is soon followed up with an interception by Eva, who makes a good accurate pass to Rose who beats her marker and makes another good cross for Laura to volley in. A great goal that gives Laura her hat trick!

The game is rounded off with a Cosby free kick on the edge of the goalkeeper area. Cosby’s striker takes an excellent free kick into the top corner of the goal and gives Alice no chance. The game ends 9-3 with both teams having made it a real contest.

A brilliant first game for the Owls, showing their ability to attack and defend as a team. Their passing and shooting was great to see, plus some great shot stopping from Alice and the rest of the defenders.
