Oadby Owls Eagles Vs Oadby Owls Barnys - 28th April (Friendly)

There was massive support today for both teams as a friendly game lay ahead, both teams were looking forward to a friendly game of football on home turf.

The game got underway and immediately it was proving to be a great game of football as both teams showed some real skill and promise on the ball and there was end to end football from both teams, however the Barnys made a break and attacked the Eagles goal resulting in a corner which led to a great game from Scott who was in goal today the Barnys kept at it again and forced Scott to make an excellent save that showed how impressive he is in goal.

The Eagles were on the attack and this ended with Myles rattling the upright with a shot, now back  up the other end with the Barneys attacking and another save from Scott only to release the Eagles down the field and Josh for the Barneys was excellent in defence and the Barneys were again attacking only for possession to change hands again and the Eagles to attack the Barneys goal and for the Barneys defence to show how strong they are, the first half drew to a close.

The second half got under way much the same as the first started with end to end play but Jack made an impressive run down the wing from the half way line to show what a first rate player he is, the eagles were back on the attack but this was dealt with excellently by defensive pairing of Kaylen and Zane who are both always rock solid in defence.

The Eagles were away again and Jack had a shot that was just wide of the post after taking a deflection, corner awarded and Myles was also just wide of the post, the Eagles were strong onto the ball from the goal kick and had another attack but the ball was cleared off the line after beating the keeper. The Eagles were still on it though and George had a shot on goal that was picked up by the keeper, the Barnys were then charging down the pitch in possession of the ball which resulted in some strong defending from Zane, who has shown over recent weeks that he is a good all rounder, strong in defence and not afraid to have a shot on goal.

However the Barnys were relentless at the Eagles goal and Eric for the Barneys had a sweet strike which had Scott beaten for once and found the back of the net, the Barnys were joyous but the Eagles heads went up at this and they were attacking the Barneys goal, being awarded a corner but this was dealt with and released the Barnys to attack the Eagles once more but the defence held strong and the Eagles were away once more with Myles having a shot that was cleared but not completely dealt with, Zane also had a shot but the ball went out for a goal kick. There was a forced change in keeper for the barneys that saw Levi going in goal to take the goal kick, but once more the Eagles were on it and Alf had a shot that was just over the bar.

The Barneys were away and running up field but the Eagles defence dealt with this once more and the Eagles were on the attack that showed some amazing defending from the Barnys team but the ball was picked up by the Eagles and Jack had another shot that was just wide. The goal kick saw the Barneys attacking the Eagles again and forced Scott to make another brilliant save and saw the Eagles attacking the Barnys and Jack with the ball at his feet he had a shot but the barneys defence were strong once more and the Barnys had an attack that saw some brilliant defending from Myles, he seemed to be all over the pitch today as seconds later he was in the Barneys half having a shot on goal that went just wide and then another seconds later from the goal kick.

This time the goal kick went up-field and the Barnys were away for the ball to land with Eric again and he once more found the back of the net for the Barnys. There was some excellent midfield play from both teams and then there was a handball on the wing, free kick to the Eagles, taken by Jack, who took an amazing free kick but there was no one in space to get on the end of it, but the lose ball was picked up by the Eagles and they put some pressure on the Barnys but they showed strength and came out with the ball for another attack on the Eagles but the defence and midfield were brilliant as always and Alf made some good turns with the ball to get out a tricky spot and put the ball into the box where Zane had a shot on goal then went just wide of the post, the Eagles were attacking the Barnys goal with force but the Barneys were strong, clearing the ball to in the Eagles half but then Jack had time for another run down the wing by jack for one more attack but the final whistle bought this friendly to an end.

This was an excellent game of football by two strong Oadby teams that showed some real promise from the players on both sides and made all the coaches and parents proud as the children showed their maturity in this fixture. Well done both Oadby teams!!!!!

Oadby Owls Eagles V's Ibstock Tigers - 14th April 2013 (Group game)

The Eagles were back at home today as the season is drawing to a close, the sun was shining but unfortunately the wind was howling across Coombe park.

From the outset the Tigers were attacking but thus was dealt with and the Eagles were on the attack, Matt showed from the beginning just what he intended to do and was excellent ion midfield and had a shot that ricocheted off the post and Jack had a shot that went just over, not helped by the vicious cross wind, the game really was end to end and Matt who was on form today was all over the pitch and played a crucial part in defence.

The Eagles were again on the attack and Jack had a great corner but the Tigers were again attacking the Eagles but Myles and Matt in defence dealt with this and Adam was released and made a run down the pitch and had a shot that was saved, the Tigers were on the attack once more and they found the back of the net on their attack.

At the restart the Tigers looked hungry and were once more attacking the Eagles goal and a slightly controversial corner was awarded and this resulted in the Tigers finding the back of the net again. The Eagles were not despondent at this and responded in true Eagles style and were on the attack and Matt found the back of the net!!!!! The Eagles were away again and Adam had a shot that went just wide. The Tigers were attacking again and as a cross came in it was helped out of play by the wind as the whistle signaled the end of the first half.

The second half started much the same as the second finished with end to end attacks by both teams, the Eagles were away and shooting when George had a shot that was saved and then Matt, who was having an amazing game was great in defence, Matt with Zane in defence were strong in the second half and Jake made an excellent save to keep the Eagles hopes alive. Matt pushed forward and had a shot from just past the half way line that went just inches wide of the post, the Eagles still attacking were awarded a corner that was dealt with but then the ball fell to Jack just outside the box, as the ball was hit so sweetly by Jack, the second it left his boot time seemed to slow down as the ball sailed over the defence and the keeper could just not jump high enough as it just sailed over his head and the side netting bulged with such force from the strike it was lucky the net was pegged down well!!!! The touchline and crowd erupted!!!!!

The Tigers were once more attacking the Eagles but this was dealt with and the Eagles were countering, Myles hit the post with a lovely strike from his favoured left foot, Alf had shot deflected and then it seemed the whole of the Eagles team had a foot on the ball trying to get it into the back of the et as there was a massive goal line scramble, it seemed the keeper had 8 arms and every player for the Tigers stopped the ball from crossing the line! As thge ball was cleared it was found that there was another controversial turn of events when a sub for the Tigers had not left the field from an earlier change and the Tigers had had 7 outfield players on the pitch!

The Tigers were again attacking and Matt made an excellent header to keep the ball out of the back if the net and Jake was excellent in goal as he saved shot after shot by jumping all over the goal mouth, the Eagles were away and attacking with Adam on the ball who made a run for it and the ball went just wide of the post again, the Tigers countered from this and some good tackles were put in in defence from George and Adam to turn the play around and set the Eagles on their way again, as the second half was drawing to a close there was time for one more attack from both the Tigers and the Eagles but both of these were dealt with by defence and goalies and the final whistle went.

The second half performance from the Eagles was very good today after an uncharacteristically slow start, the player of the day today was a hard choice as there were some improved performances from players and an outstanding performance from Jake in goal but after deliberation the player of the day was awarded to

Player of the Day: Matt

Braunstone Trinity V's Oadby Owls Eagles - 17th March 2013 (friendly)

Another away friendly coming up for the Eagles today as they took a short trip to Braunstone today to play Braunstone Trinty, an inform side. The weather was not the best as rain was fast turning into sleet and snow and the ground looked a bit boggy and waterlogged in places, but all agreed it was a playable surface.

As the whistle went the Eagles were away and attacking Braunstone but the children seemed to find the ground difficult to deal with at first and to judge the weight of passes and strikes. Another good display in midfiled by the starting line up of Myles, Jack and George and then Braunstone were away but this was easily dealth with by Kaylan, who was an outstanding player today. The Eagles were on the attack again and Alf had a shot although the ball became stuck in the mud as the goalkeeper dealt with it but the Eagles continued their attack. Braunstone were awarded a free kick and attacked but again Kaylen was there to deal with the attack alongside Scott in defence. The Eagles quickly turned it round and were running upfield were Jack had a shot on goal. Braunstone dealt with this and were attacking the Eagles when a goal kick was awarded and Braunstone somehow managed to be the first to the ball and scored from this.

There was a substitution then bringing George off and putting Matt on and the Eagles were once more attacking Braunstones goal and this attack saw Matt score with a lovely strike despite the conditions. From the restart Braunstone were attacking but this was always dealt with well and there was excellent midfield play which saw some lovely passes strung together as the children were beginning to judge better the conditions they were playing in and the Eagles were attacking again and Kaylen was given the freedom by Braunstone to run upfield with the ball at his feet, this attack saw Matt once more have a shot on goal. Adam was then bought on to shore up the midfield and he got stuck straight in with some amazing tackles and turns with the ball, this released the Eagles again to attack Braunstone, Myles had pushed up now and this saw him have 2 shots on goal in quick succession as the Eagles were relentlessly attacking the Braunstone goal. Matt hd another shot on goal as well that was also dealt with and Braunstone were back in the Eagles half which saw et another great tackle from Kaylen and this bought the firt half to a close.

From the restart braunstone were attacking the Eagles goal with gusto and were awarded a corner which saw them score as Jake was trying to keep the ball out the net but the conditions in the goal area were making this difficult. The Eagles picked themselves up and were once more attacking Braunstones goal, this attack saw Adam have 2 shots on goal and then closely followed by jack who appeared to be getting stuck in wherever needed on the pitch Alf then had a shot that was saved, Myles also had another shot on goal and then Matt had a shot that forced the keeper to make a great save. The Eagles were still not done and Myles and Matt had another shot each on goal before Braunstone managed to hold onto the ball and attack the Eagles half and unfortunately against the run of play Braunstone once more found the back of the Eagles net.

The Eagles were not disheartened and were immediately back on the attack and Jack had a shot on goal that although it became a little bit stuck on the mud he quickly followed up and made sure it forced the back of Braunstones net to bulge! The Eagles were still hungry for more goals and were again attacking Braunstone and Myles had yet another shot bu this was delat with and Braunstone had the ball and were on the attack but the Eagles again dealt with this as Myles and George were in defence as Kaylen picked up a knock in a crunching tackle, but Myles and George were clearing balls well in defence and turning the ball round to set the Eagles away again and saw Jack have another shot that forced the keeper to make a great save and Braunstone were on the attack but Adam put in a great display in a defensive position but sadly for the Eagles Braunstone somehow managed to find the back of the net again.

There was time for one more final attack from the the Eagles before the final whistle. This was a very good game and saw some improved performances from individual payers and also the Eagles team as a whole, they all played well today and should all be proud of themselves, todays game was one of them games were the run of play is not always reflected by the goals,

Great play Eagles, keep it up!

Player of the Day: Kaylen

Rugby Tigers V's Oadby Owls Eagles - 7th April 2013 (Group game)

It was a long drive today for the Eagles players and supporters to Rugby for this rematch as the teams have met earlier in the season for what was then a very close match, everyone was wondering what todays game would bring.

The Eagles took kick off and the Tigers were straight on the ball attacking the Eagles half but some great midfield play from Jack, Adam and Scott saw the ball change sides many times but the Tigers pressed on and scored within minutes, Jake could not have stopped that shot. The Eagles were not disheartened and picked themselves up, from the restart once again Jack & Adam showed god ball control and then Kaylen, strong as ever showed some great skill down the wing which led to Alfie having a shot on goal that was fumbled and Adam was there for the follow up ball to find the back of the net. The Tigers once more showed strength on the ball but Adam was strong when helping out in defence. The Eagles once more had the ball and were attacking the Tigers goal with some excellent passing between the players, the ball was with Jack who buried it in the back of the Tigers net!

Some substitutions were made, seeing George and Zane come on, within minutes George had an attempt on goal but this was dealt with by the Tigers keeper and saw the Tigers once more attacking the Eagles goal, when there was controversy!!!! The match ball from another match ended up on the field of play, not knowing which ball was which, the referee rightly awarded a drop ball which was won y the Tigers but the Eagles quickly regained possession and were once again on the attack and saw Kaylen put in a brilliant cross into the box and after a bit of moving around Jack found the back of the net once more for the Eagles!!!!!!!!!

From the restart the Eagles showed they were interested in the game and wanting more from it, Adam won the ball and ran all the way upfield solo but to see his shot saved by the Tigers keeper, the Tigers were away and attacking the Eagles goal but this was dealt with easily by the strong defence of Kaylen and Zane and the Eagles once more were on the rampage Jack put  brilliant cross in this time and Alfie had another shot saved, back  down the other end of the field now as the Tigers were on the attack but this was dealt with again brilliantly by the defensive pairing of Zane and captain Kaylen the lose ball was sent upfield by George and Alfie ran onto this and had another shot. The goal kick was quickly picked up by Jack who unleashed an amazing shot to find the back of the net once more!!!!!!! The half time whistle came as a relief for both sides to have a well earned rest from the play.

At the restart the Tigers were away attacking the Eagles goal but this time there was some excellent defensive play from Scott and Matt as both of them had motored back down the pitch to help out, the Eagles were away again only to be countered by the Tigers and Matt once more ran back to help in defence brilliantly  a corner was awarded and Matt also cleared this to allow the eagles to be on their way again and attacking the Tigers, the ball was in the back of the net again, this time from a powerful shot from Alfie!!!

The Tigers took the restart and was now becoming characteristic of them they were quick from restart and were attacking the Eagles goal again and once more Matt and Zane were strong in defence but the ball was still shot at the Eagles net but was dealt with expertly by Jake, who although, had been the less busy of the two keepers he had kept his attention on the game and was there when needed, Zane passed the ball onto Scoitt who had a wonderful run up field and saw his shot saved by the keeper who had come from his goal line.

From this the Tigers were on their way again attacking the Eagles, it was one on one, striker versus Jake....tense times but Jack stood his ground and at the last minute saved the shot, Matt ran the whole length of the pitch to be there to clear up the lose ball, excellent defensive play from the Eagles. The subsequent corner was dealt with well and saw Adam battling hard as always in midfield, he never gave the Tigers a minute as he was constantly on them to get the ball, Scott was released again and had another shot saved by the keeper who was on good form today.

The Eagles were again on the attack and Zane produced a lovely cross to Alf but the shot was saved and the corner was dealt with by the Tigers, however from the goal kick the Eagles were once more all over the ball and reached it before the Tigers players and Alf put in a good cross to jack who found the back of the net again!!!!. The Tigers were again quick from the restart but Jake yet again was equal to their attack and made another important save. Adam was blasting through midfield showing some amazing skills with the ball at his feet but the Tigers soon crowded round Adam and dispossessed him of the ball, the Tigers were again coming at the Eagles, but as always Kaylen was there in defence rock solid and dependable as always.

There was a bit of a move round in the last few minutes that saw Scott go in goal and Jake come out onto pitch, proving that he is not just a great goalkeeper he also put in some brilliant tackles in defence, supported by George who was having an improved game than of late. The Tigers managed to have a shot but this was wide and did not trouble Scott in goal who always shows safe hands anyway, Scott did a great goal kick that unleashed the Eagles for one more attack before the final whistle.

This was an excellent performance from the Eagles that showed that passing has rewards on the pitch, all the children agreed that they had been looking for passes and this paid dividends for them. All of the players today had a great game so the player of the day decision was a difficult one to make, based on the fact that two players today showed an improved performance than of late it was shared by

Player of the Day: Alfie Parsons & George Wilson

Oadby Owls Eagles v Allexton and New Parks - 3rd March 2013 (friendly)

The sun was shining as the Eagles were on the road again for a friendly against a club where there has been numerous meetings before. There was a lot of travelling support again as the pitchside was crammed with supprters for the teams.

The Eagles kicked off and seemed to be on the back foot straight away as Aleexton unleashed a shot within minutes but it was no match for substitute keeper, Scott, who showed safe hands, straight away it proved to be a real end to end game as the Eagles were pushing forward and saw Zane have the first of many shots in the game which was saved and Allexton were attacking the Eagles again and then they were awarded a free kick which was expertly dealt with by the defence of Myles and Kaylan and another good save from Scott. The ball remained in the eagles half and we saw some good defending from Adam and a great tackle from him where he staye on his feet and came away with the ball like a world class defender. The Eagles were again defending as Allexton had 2 quick shots on goal, both saved by Scott, one of the saves was outstanding.

Kaylan showed real pace and skill and awareness of the pitch as he used the full width and made a lovely run down the wing, which saw Alfie put a cross and Adam got on the end of this but was denied a goal by the defence but the Eagles did get  a corner which was dealt with by Allexton and then they were once agan in the Egles half but as in previous meetings with any of the Allexton teams there was some excellent midfield play by both teams and Zane, playingin midfield was excellent and also Adam, who favours midfield was as usual getting stuck into tackles and winning the ball for the Eagles, Allexton had possession of the ball and were attacking the Eagles when they managed to put a shot past Scott somehow.

At the restart the Eagles were once again attacking Allextons goal and were awrded 2 successive quick corners as Allexton defence was trying to deal with the strike force of Alfie, Jack, Myles and Adam, not to mention Zane and Kaylen who all had shots on goal in the game. Allexton had poosession and were once again running at the Eagles when Jack ran back to defence and blocked a shot near the line, te Eagles were on the run again with the ball, quickly followed by Allexton again coming at the Eagles, they were some excellent clean tackles made by both teams in midfield and some great defence again by Kaylen which then led to sub Kaian making an excellent run down the wing, skipping over Allexton players and showing excellent skill with his quick feet and quick turns, the first half drew to a close.

The second half started much the same as the first with Allexton attacking the Eagles goal and finding the back of the Eagles net. Allexton were once again on he run and saw another 2 great saves from Scott and then the Eagles were rampaging upfield again which saw Alfie let rip with a shot and then a super shot from Kaian, which was not dealt with properly and Zane had another long range effort on goal, not content with dominating defence Kaylen was also upfield and had a shot on goal that was saved, Allexton had still not dealt properly with the Eagles attack and Adam also had a shot saved which then saw brilliant play in midfield between Adam, Jack and Myles and some lovely passing along that floor that saw Allexton trying to chase for the ball, once more pressing forward Kaylen had another shot on goal and Allexton ran down field with the ball but rthis was delat with well and then Myles was running down the wing with the ball.

Allexton dealt with the attack and were once more coming at the Eagles but there was some good defence seeing clearances by Kaylan and George in defence but as Allexton pressed forward Scott made another save, the Eagles had the ball again and were dominating midfield for a spell when Allexton picked up a lose ball and attacked the Eagles goal once more, the shot was saved but the Allexton striker rifled a long range shot from the goal kick and found the back of the net. The Eagles were once more on the attack from the restart but Allexton dealt with this and countered again which forced Scott to make a fine save tipping the ball just wide of the post, Allexton had a corner that was dealt with well but sadly the final whistle went to draw the game to a close.

On the whole it was an evenly matched game but saw Allexton coming off the victors but showed some good spells of individual and team play by the Eagles that can be worked on to the future advantage of the Eagles.

Kirby Muxloe 88 v Oadby Owls Eagles - 10th February 2012 (Group Match)

So the big day was finally here the restart after the Christmas break. It was a cold and wet morning but the pitch looked in great shape to play all thanks to the Kirby groundsman. The Eagles were short on numbers to day with George being ill and Kaylen being away also Sarah the assistant manager was away taking care of George .The game started off with an Oadby kick off the first 5 minutes was all Kirby Muxloe with the likes off Scott and Matt breaking up everything that came there way. Then there was a counter attack by the eagles with Myles threading a lovely through ball that beat the defenders and Alfie latched on to with a first time shot that must of taken a bobble as it was closer to the corner flag than the goal. Then there was more pressure from Kirby Muxloe with shot after shot coming at the eagles keeper Jacob to which he matched every shot.Jacob then took a goal kick which went straight to a Kirby Muxloe striker who was bearing down on goal and let rip with a venomous strike which Jacob could do nothing about. The eagles fans were really routing for there team as always then some magical midfield play by Adam and Jack left Alfie in acres of space bearing down on the defence he had two defenders to beat so he drifted out to the wing dribbling the ball to the buy line Alfie took a quick look up and drilled in a hard low left footed cross which Matt took full advantage off and drilled into the far post past the stranded keeper. There was plenty more dogged defending from Zaine and some well timed sliding tackles from Scott who seemed to be everywhere. The eagles battled  all game witch was end to end stuff the only thing missing were the hot drinks. All in all on a cold wet muddy morning a good performance with a few things to be worked on in training well done.

Blaby Bulls V's Oadby Owls Eagles - 18th November 2012 (Friendly)

Another friendly, this time against a team that the Eagles had met before back in August, the weather was a lot different this time and the game was on another pitch but all Eagles travelling support were hoping for a similar result.

As it was a friendly there were some changes of position for the start of the first half and as kick off was takne the Eagles were away and attacking the Bulls goal in true Eagles style and then a quick corner which was dealt with by the Bulls, then the Bulls were away down the field and attacking the Eagles goal with a shot, then a corner, then another shot then a goal for the Bulls.

The Eagles picked themselves up and were running towards the Bulls goal again and Jack had a shot saved and then the Eagles scored, superb goal by Myles!!! Yes!!!! The cheers from the crowd reached almost deafening level, not contented with a goal the Eagles were again on the attack with quick shots saved for Myles then for Alfie then another goal for the Eagles, put in the back of the net by super midfielder Jack Wagstaff! At the restart the Eagles again attacked the Bulls goal and Jack had another goal saved, the Bulls, not content to sit back were attacking the Eagles goal and there was some excellent defending from Matthew who was all over the field chasing balls and showing lightening quick pace to go from striker to defender in seconds. Jake put in another excellent performance in goal and made an excellent save.

The Eagles were again running upfield and Myles had another shot, this was closely followed by some excellent midfield play from both teams and the Eagles were once more on the attack and Adam, who had a brilliant game had a shot on goal. The midfield was again the place to be for all the action and there was some exceptional play down both wings by Kaylen, Jack and Adam, culminating in Adam having another shot on goal!

The Bulls were fighting back and forced Jake to make an excellent save, one that his hero Schmeichal (Senior) would have been proud of, Kaylen, as ever rock solid in defence was once again on top form with some amazing tackles at the most crucial of times. The Eagles, were for a time, stuck in their own half and found it difficult to clear up-field as the Bulls seemed a very strong and capable side but breakthrough they did and the Eagles were again on the attack, shots were unleashed by Matthew and Adam and then there was a goal for Matthew, fine strike it was and almost caused a hole in the Bulls net with the power of it!!! Before the first half drew to a close there was time for one more shot by Adam, then the whistle blew for half time.

The usual encouraging half time team talk ensued and the children were all wearing big smiles on their faces as they were praised for their brilliant and gritty attacking and defending.

As the game recommenced for the second half the Eagles were again on the attack, George, putting in some time in midfield had a shot go tantalisingly just wide!!! The crowd cheered at the prospect of George finally braking his duck, alas, not this time. The Bulls were again attacking the Eagles but through some amazing defending once more by Kaylen and Zane, who's clearances were again spot on and well timed, the ball fell to Alf who hefted the ball up-field and then Jack had another shot on goal and then Matt had a shot on goal. The Bulls were away from a loose ball and attacking the Eagles goal but Zane showed some excellent talent again by well timed defending, helped out by Jack who was all over the pitch today and the Eagles were on the attack again and Matthew had a great shot saved and then a corner and then yet another shot on goal by George, who had a much improved game today. this time the shot was just saved by the Bulls keeper who showed safe hands.

The Bulls were away from the goal kick and had an attack, then a corner and as the Bulls heads came up they found the back of the net, they were fighting back as they were quick off the mark from the Eagles restart and were again on the attack but Kaylen made some characteristically excellent tackles in defence but the Bulls once more found the back of the net.

Not to ever feel despondent the Eagles restarted and were rampaging down the pitch on the attack with Jack, who was on fire today having another shot on goal. The Bulls retaliated and were once more on the attack, the Eagles held out due to some excellent defending from Matthew and George and yet another excellent clearance from Zane.

The Eagles were hungry for more goals and as they were motoring down the pitch, Adam taking no prisoners as he seemed to just dance over the Bulls players and leave them in his wake, there was a good cross put in from Alf and then the ball fell at the feet of Jack, well there could only be one outcome from that, goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was struck so well and with power that there was concern the goal may collapse under the strain.

There was some excellent midfield play from both teams and then Adam was once more powering down the wing and the Eagles were on the attack once more, this time Matthew found the target and the net bulged once more!!!!

Not content with that, Matthew was again helping in defence and clearing the ball upfield for Myles to have one last shot on goal before the final whistle sounded.

Todays game showed some excellent skills from all the Eagles players once again, quick feet from midfield, strong defence with excellent well timed clearences and great attacking play from the strike force of the Eagles. The Bulls were a strong side that made this an excellent mid season friendly and allowing players to spend time in other places on the field, the Eagles players impressed the coaches and parents present by showing that they were really listening at training and showed some excellent and well executed turns to allow them to run past the opposition.

The choice of player of the day was a difficult one today as there were many players who had showed improved skill and awareness on the ball, however, for sheer tenacity and determination and always giving 110% in any game, it goes to............

Player of the Day: Jack Wagstaff

Goals Scorers: Myles, Jack (2), Matthew (2)

Oadby Owls Eagles v Rugby Tigers - 11th November 2012 (Group game)

There was a good turnout on this cold sunny remembrance day fixture. The Tigers had made a long trip to Oadby's Coombe park but all players and support seemed to be in good spirits and some of the players and parents were discussing the lovely day had at Leicester city yesterday for the adopted fixture.

The team sheet was out and there was a bit of shuffling round of players in positions, when one minutes silence was held to remember the fallen soldiers. The Tigers kicked off and within seconds the Eagles were on the ball and driving down to the Tigers goal where Alf had a shot straight off & the Eagles signaled their intention early on. There was then an attack by the Tigers which saw one of many great saves from Jacob, the ball was on the field again and Alf had another couple of shots in quick succession.

The Tigers were playing excellently and there was some amazing play in midfield by both teams, then Alf had another shot, the Tigers had the ball and they were away again attacking the Eagles goal but Jake made another great save and with the goal kick it saw the Eagles unleashed once more & Jack Wagstaff having a shot saved. This game was real end to end stuff as the Tigers goalkeeper allowed one of the Tigers players to have a run at the Eagles goal, play changed hands again, now Alf and Myles were running up the pitch with some excellent passing and everyone thought that there was surely going to be a well deserved goal but no, the Eagles were thwarted once more, the Eagles were awarded corner after corner and throw in after throw in but there just seemed to be no luck for the Eagles, however the Tigers keeper was having the game of his life and it seemed that no one was going to score past him, there was talk that actually it was De Gea from man utd in disguise!!

From the goal kick the Tigers were again away and running up to the Ealges goal, thankfully nothing came of it and the Eagles were once more all over the Tigers and were awarded another corner where it saw striker Matt having a shot, then another shot, all being kept out. The Tigers were again trying to find the first goal of the match, Scott made an excellent tackle but the Tigers still pressed on and Jacob yet again made an excellent save!!! Back up into the Tigers half again as Alf had yet another shot on goal saved, back again for another midfield battle between 2 evenly matched teams, the Eagles were on the break again and Matt had a shot saved then there was almost an own goal from the Tigers, when the Tigers were away and attacking the Eagles goal, the Tigers had a shot and it went in, it was a great strike & Jacob did everything he could to keep it out but the deadlock was broken just before half time, there was still time for the Eagles to have one more attack and Alf had another shot saved!!!

Time for an inspiring team talk from the Eagles management team once again, but thankfully as always the Eagles players still had smiles on their faces and listenend to the encouraging words, half time over, time for the second half.......

The Eagles came out strong as always and Adam, who was on fire, was almost clear on goal when a defender appeared and disposessed Adam of the ball, the Tigers were attacking the Eagles goal againand Jacob made yet another great save, questions now as to whether De Gea had defected to the opposition??? The Tigers were again attacking and there was some over zealous defending from George that saw a free kick to the Tigers but was effectively dealt with by the always amazing defensive partnreship for the Eagles of Zane & Kaylen, the Eagles were realised and Matt had another shot saved by the Tigers keeper!!!! Jack showed strength on the ball and won an important ball to set Matthew up but yet another Eagles shot saved!!!

The Tigers were again attacking but Matthew made an important tackle and passed upfield but the tigers keeper came out and met the ball, the ball was kicked out and then Adam was once more attacking the goal and saw a shot just go agonisingly wide by less than an inch, the Eagles had done everything but score today, would their time come????

You bet it would!!!!! There was a goal mouth scramble that saw people jumping up and down on the sidelines when Adams shot found the back of the net!!! GOAL!!!!!!!!! Finally the hard work of all the Eagles today had paid off. The restart saw impressive midfield play and saw some amazing tackles by Kaylen, who was yet again all over the field, not giving the opposition a minute to think and Zane was again making clearances that John Terry would have been impressed with, thats not to mention Scott whos all over the pitch chasing doen lost balls.

The Tigers were again pressing on the Eagles and had a corner that was dealt with cleanly and with excellent poise as always by Jacob, Matt showed some good skill with the ball at his feet and skipped over players, Jack then had a shot saved and another amazing save from the Tigers superkeeper. The Tigers were again away and attacking the goal when Jacob made a gmae winning save to award the Tigers another corner, Adam got in the way and then the Eagles were away and attacking the Tigers goal, Jakc had another goal saved and then the Eagles again had corner after corner as they were throwing everything they had into the game, there was another goal mouth scramble, but alas, thisa time the ball did not find the back of the net, Adam had a shot that was saved.

Somehow, Adam managed to run the whole length of the pitch and make a crucial goal line save at the other end of the pitch as there was a cheeky little tap that unfortunately beat Jacob, who was soon back on his feet to make another impressive save, the ball was again heading towards the Eagles when an inspired substitution from the Tigers saw some good attacking play and George made an impressive clearance on the wing that saw him pick up a bit of an injury. The Eagles were again whipping the ball away and attacking the Tigers goal when Alf had yet another impressive shot saved by the Tigers keeper.

The midfield battle again wa son and the Tigers were attacking once more, Jacob made yet another impressive save and the Eagles were away and had 2 shots saved within seconds and the Tigers were once more on the attack, Scott made a crucial clearance and then ran almost the length of the pitch, skipping past Tigers players and then put in a blinder of a cross, that saw a cheeky flick on from Alf to set Myles up to find the back of the net!!!!!!

The Eagles heads were up now and they seemed to be renewed a fresh with energy and were really running at the Tigers now, Adam had yet another shot that went just wide again by millimeters and the Eagles had another corner, there was a shout for go short boys!!!! Go short they did, Myles knocked it gently to Jack, Jack moved into a good position, looked up at goal and smashed the ball so hard I though the stitching was going to come undone on it!!!! The ball sailed through the air and curled sweetly to make it into the top corner!!!! The cheers of the jubilant home crowd roared around Coombe park once more.

The Tigers had the restart but the Eagles werent done and Scoot once more was battling for the ball when the full time whistle went.

This was an excellent game by 2 evenly matched teams, it really was a game of 2 halves, seeing a change of fortune in the second half, but the 2 keepers had brillaint gamesm, all the Eagles players played brilliantly as a team, they were looking for passes and were using some of the close control skills that we have been practising, player of the day was a hard shout today but for a brilliant performance on the day and for the fact that he always plays outstandingly well and is interested in the game it can only be....

Oadby Owls Tawnys v Oadby Owls Eagles - 28th October 2012 (Friendly)

The day had arrived! Tawnys v's Eagles. There was again a lot of support at Coombe Park, there's even talk of a stand being built for the ever growing support!! It was a very cold October day but this did not deter the supporters or the children who all appeared to be in good spirits and were eager to start the game.

The Eagles got the game underway and they were flying, being awarded two quick corners but the attack was dealt with effectively by the Tawny's and then they were in turn away down the field and causing keeper Jacob to make an amazing save. The Eagles were once again on the attack and Alfie Parsons had a shot saved. Not deterred by this effort Alf had another strike and beat the keeper and found the back of the net!!!!

The Tawnys were off and away at the restart and had 3 quick shots, all thankfully going wide of the Eagles goal and then Jacob makes another impressive save. There was then an impressive spell of midefield play as Jack, Myles and Adam were strong in midfield and showed their ususal determination to win balls and to chase them down. Adam was all over the Tawnys at times and refused to let dead balls go. Alf then had another shot that hit the post and more excellent midfield play led to the ball coming in to the Eagles half and a mistake by defence with a mistimed backpass saw the Tawnys capitalise and the first shot was saved by Jacob but unfortunately he just could not keep the deflected shot out.

At the restart the Eagles were attacking again and their keeper Mookie made an impressive save. Scott for the Eagles was on in midfield and made some really impressive tackles at crucial times that saw balls being cleared well. The Tawnys were away and attacking again and Reece for the Tawnys had an impressive shot saved to keep the Eagles in it as half time was fast approaching.

The half time team talk followed the usual pattern and a bit of reshuffling of players to try them out in differnent positions.

The Eagles were like lightening at the restart and Scott had a shot saved within minutes and then the Tawny's were once more relentlessly attacking the Eagles goal and saw another great save by Jacob. The Eagles were awarded a free kick and Alf stepped up to take this, he struck the ball sweetly and everyone watched as it was arcing through the air and around the keeper, it looked like he might get to it but the ball carried on and swerved beautifully into the bottom corner!!!

The Eagles seemed to be on fire as defender Kaylen had a shot saved and then Myles ran from the half way line with the ball and finished off beautifully!!!! Racous applause from all!

The Tawny's were on the attack from here and Jacob saved a volley of shots from the Tawny's attack and defence alike as everyone seemed to be having a shot on goal, one of the best savces came from Jacob on the edge of the area as he made a brilliant judgememnt call and cleared the ball well for a throw in. Thankfully as the Tawny's kept on attacking the Eagles goal the defence of Kaylen and Zane with support from Myles who was now in defence was first rate. Kaylen whos always on top form was on top form as always and Zane carried on last weeks impressive performance this week as well and cleared some amazing balls. Jack made some impressive runs down the wing and at one point it looked like he was going to put the ball in the back of the net as well as skipping past a load of the Tawny's.

The Eagles tried for another attack in the tawnys half but they were strong in defence and some good defending and and clearences by the Tawny's kept this a thrilling match. Kaylen had a shot and this was saved expertly by Reece who was taking a turn in goal and showed that he is excellent in goal as well as up front and equally Mookie looked good on pitch and made some good tackles.

George who was now playing in midfield made a good throw in and this saw the eagles away for another run at the Tawnys defence but it was quickly dealt with by the Tawnys and this saw them attacking the Eagles goal again, the Tawnys were making some impressive tackles and the Tawny's had another shot on goal that thankfully went wide. The goal kick went in to the heart of midfield and George made a good tackle that tried to send the Eagles on their way again and Adam was away through the pitch.

As the 2nd half was coming to a close both teams had some impressive shots on goal and both teams kept playing right to the final whistle. This was an excellent game between 2 Oadby teams that saw some brillaint play by the players from the Oadby academy and saw some of the skills practiced at academy being used in the match. All the children enjoyed the game and all players gave it their all even in the penalty shootout at the end, which was an enjoyable way to finish off a great game!!!

As for choosing the player of the day, this was a difficult pick as always but as this player found his form again to the delight of the crowd it could only be.......

Player of the Day: Alfie Parsons

Goals Scorers: Alfie Parsons (2), Myles Barrett

Oadby Owls Eagles v Corby Warriors - 21st October 2012 (Friendly)

This friendly fixture against Corby Warriors gave both teams the chance to give players a run out and also allowed for some position changes for players on the Eagles team.

The home and travelling support were at Coombe park in good numbers today on a very cold October day but spirits could not be dampened as the Eagles entered the friendly high on a few wins in past weeks and eager to extend the run of good form.

The Eagles side captained by last weeks player of the day, Adam Sakour were on the pitch in position eager and waiting for the Corby Warriors team, who were practicing penalties at the start, hopefully these would not be needed in the match.

The Eagles were off like lightning when both striker Alfie Parsons and midfielder Myles Barrett had shots on goal within minutes of kick off and all the home support were expecting great things from this game.

The Warriors made a break for it however and motored down the pitch to the Eagles goal and scored their first goal! What a goal it was, the restart saw the Warriors again pressing on the Eagles and a corner was conceded after some excellent defending again marshalled by Kaylen Mistry with good performances from Zane Kataria and George Wilson which went out harmlessly and saw an Eagles goal kick.

This game was proving to be an excellent match and saw some real end to end play, Myles having another shot at the Warriors goal, closely followed by the Warriors having a shot.

The mid week training by the Eagles seemed to be really paying off when Adam Sakour pulled off an amazing header directed right at the feet of a team mate and saw the Eagles again running forward, straight after the Warriors were once again at the Eagles goal as Corby had another corner after pressing forward. From this the Eagles pressed on and Alfie had a shot then came 2 quick successive corners for the Eagles and then some excellent midfield play from both teams. The usual suspects in midfield of Adam Sakour, Myles Barrett and Jack Wagstaff were in excellent form and the short passing game that the Eagles were playing delighted the management team as all the players had really took on board all the hard work of the coaching staff at academy and training trying to impress on the players the benfits of passing. From this, Adam Sakour who gave his heart and soul as usual, had a shot on goal.

The Warriors broke free and ran the length of the pitch and goal keeper Jacob Rhodes who was on excellent form as always was unfortunately unable to save the blistering shot from Corby Warriors, this seemed to not only come from the laces of the Corby striker but from every fibre of him, it was a strike that that any forward would have been proud of.

The Eagles picked themselves up and again ran at the Warriors, another great display in midfield from both sides was had and the Eagles were awarded a corner after pressing forward to the Warriors goal which resulted in a goal kick. New signing Scott was moved from defence to midfield following his excellent display last week in midfield and had a shot saved by the Corby goal keeper who was in excellent form and at times it seemd Corby may have been playing Joe Hart instead! From this Scott then made a blinding tackle that even had the Corby manager applauding the well timed brilliantly executed tackle.

Corby were again at the Eagles though and were awarded a free kick which Jacob dealt with, expertly commanding the players in the box again and a goal kick ensued. The Eagles ran at the Warriors once more and there was a rush before half time to press forward and Adam had 2 excellent shots on goal. The Warriors again ran forward into the Eagles half and thankfuuly Zane, who appeared to be having the game of the century defended for the Eagles and surely was instrumental in not allowing the Warriors to tuck away another goal before the half time whistle blew.

The usual supportive and encouraging half time team talk was had by the management team of the Eagles and some reorganising of the players positions to allow Jacob to leave his goal and come out onto the pitch and Scott who is the substitute keeper to take the reins in goal for the second half.

Corby were out of the blocks at supersonic speed and were attacking the Eagles goal but the defence were brillaint and dealt with the attack and the Eagles headed up to the Corby goal and were awarded a corner, a throw in and free kick all in quick succession as the Eagles relentlessly attacked the Corby goal but to no avail. The Warriors broke free and had a shot saved expertly by Scott, from the goal kick Jack had a brillaint shot saved at the Corby goal.

Another excellent piece of midfield play by both teams occured which ended with Alfie Parsons having a shot on goal and 2 quick corners for the Eagles which were expertly dealt with by the Corby defence and then Corby were once more on the break and Zane yet again was required for some excellent defending, the ball fed through to Myles who broke free with the speed of Usain Bolt and was again attacking the Corby goal but this was once again effectively dealt with by the outstanding goalkeeping of the Corby goalkeeper.

The play was once again in the Corby half were there was a shot from Adam, then a corner for the Eagles and another shot for Alfie which resulted in a top drawer save for the Corby keeper who played a blinder of a game.

As Jacob was out on the pitch for a welcome change from being in goal he proved that he is an all rounder and made some excellent defensive calls and tackles, alas, the Corby Warriors were again pressing forward and were again awarded by finding the back of the Eagles net. At the restart Corby again pressed forward and ended up with a corner, the play again was in favour of the Eagles as they pressed forward and the Eagles had a great attack at Corbys half and were given a corner for their efforts. As the ball broke free Kaylen Mistry was on it and had a superb shot on goal from almost the half way line, as the ball soared through the air time appeared to be suspended as everyone expected it to drop over the head of the Corby defence and keeper but unfortunately for the Eagles, the Joe Hart like keeper plucked it from the air with his safe hands!!!

As the ball was released the Eagles again pressed forward and Alfie had a great strike on goal that was again saved, the question on everyones lips was would the Eagles ever find the back of the net??? Would the Corby keeper ever drop his guard, even for a second???

The midfield battle was again on as passes and tackles were made by both teams that had both home and away crowd cheering and applauding their own and the opposing team as this was a game that match of the day will be asking for the television rights of!

The Eagles were again on the front foot and attacking the Corby goal when Alf let rip with a shot that caused a mini interruption to play as there was debate if the ball had crossed the line, of course it did!!!! Goal for the Eagles for Alfie Parsons!!!! As the mini interruption was happening there was questions as to whether Oadby Owls needed to adopt goal line technology and would there be calls to the FA and Sepp Blatter???

The goal spurred the Eagles on as they were keen for more, the Eagles had another corner and another attack. George Wilson, unusually playing up front tried hard to press onwards with the rest of the Eagles team but as always Corby were on the ball and the attack was dealt with. The real end to end game continued. Corby ran free with the ball and Scott saved and then made another exceptional save to keep the Eagles in the game. Kaylen, strong as ever in defence made an excellent tackle late on and then came the final whistle.

Todays game was an excellent match between what seemed very evenly matched teams, Corbys keeper was beyond belief at times with his excellent saves and the defence, midfield and attack showed some excellent play and proved to be a very good team. For the Eagles, Zane and Kaylen were exceptional in defence, Jacob and Scott were amazing in goal and the midfield of Adam, Jack and Myles and George for part of the game worked together excellently with passes and thoughtful link up play and some brilliant well timed tackles and clearences, Alfie had a very good game with his goal and also he was not only up front but was also backtracking to defence to help out when needed. The choice of player of the day today was as always a difficult one to make, however the accolade could only go to one player as I have never seen this player play as good as he did today so well done to..........

Oadby Owls Eagles v Whetstone Pumas - 14th October 2012 (group game)

High on the result of last game, everyone was asking if the Eagles could take the away form and recreate it at home. As all the Oadby teams were at home today there was a lot of support both from the home team and away supporters, the ever expanding crowd were basking in glorious sunshine and spirits were high.

For the first time ever the Eagles sported a full team of 10 players with both Matthew Collison and Scott Palmer making their Eagles debuts today as the side captained by Myles Barrett were ready for whatever the pumas could throw at them.

The Eagles were off to a lightening start when within the first minute Eagles had 2 corners as they dominated the beginning of the game, then came a shot from Matthew and another quick corner.

The Eagles seemed to be all over the game when Jack Wagstaff, Myles Barrett and Adam Sakour all had chances within minutes of each other, closely followed by another shot from Adam who was in top form as always. Whetstone made a break with the ball and were awarded a corner that was dealt with effectively by the Eagles.

The Eagles seemed to be all over the game with shot after shot being unleashed by the players, midfield battles were raging as the midfield of Jack, Myles and Adam with Matthew and Alfie taking it in turns up front were winning countless balls and putting into effect the short passing game we had been practising as well as some superb stopping and turning from the players left the pumas standing around as the Eagles were running past them before they realised the ball had changed direction.

Just before half time Matthew scored his debut goal for the Eagles to rapturous applause from all the Eagles supporters and both touchlines had deafening roars of applause and praise. Following this the Eagles had a corner but half time seemed to come all too soon.

The usual encouraging half time team talk was had by the management team of the Eagles and the players were in good spirirts and chomping at the bit for the restart.

The second half started much as the same with a shot by Myles and there then followed a period of Whetstone pumas dominating the midfield and pressing towards the Eagles goal which saw some amazing saves by Jacob Rhodes, who always has safe hands and has started commanding the defence for set peices as all professional keepers do.Defence for the Eagles, expertly spearheaded by Kaylen Mistry, as always were holding their own when a free quick was awarded and a wall was formed by defence George Wilson and Zane Kataria, right at the last minute Zane broke to the right and as the ball was struck by the pumas Zane very effectively cleared the ball and again the Eagles were attacking the puma's goal.

Eagles were awarded a corner kick for their efforts and Alfie Parsons had a shot on goal but then the Puma's were again on the break and ran upfield and a goal was scored by the pumas for all their efforts in pressing forwards.

As the kick off was taken Adam was away attacking and had another shot saved as he went skipping past the defenders. New signing Scott, who likes defence was more than holding his own in midfield and showed excellent play when he was backtracking when needed and pushing forward when he was able, hge made some excellent tackles out on the wing and really got stuck into the game. The midfield and attack worked brillaintly together by passing and looking for their best options in the game when Adam Sakour scored for the Eagles, yet again jubilous applause from the home crowd!

Then came 2 quick goals one from Myles and Matthew scored his second goal and had another saved.

Towards the end of the second half Whetstone pumas broke free again and were attacking the Eagles goal, the defence were strong as always with
Kaylen and Zane making excellent clearences, one ball broke free and the Puma's unleashed a shot, all the home supporters breathed a sigh of relief as it rattled off the post! The ball seemed to bounce clear and was almost immediately taken forward towards the pumas goal again when almost with the last strike of the game Alfie hit the post!

This was an excellent game played by the Eagles today, it showed some real thinking from the players who were looking for passes as well as making runs forward, the training on short passing games has paid dividends. Well done Eagles!!!!!

Player of the Day:  Adam Sakour

Goals Scorers: Matthew Collison (2), Myles Barrett, Adam Sakour

Harborough Raptors v Oadby Owls Eagles - 30th September 2012 (Group game)

There was a packed pitch side for the Eagles first away game. The long trip down the A46 had the players and supporters in good form for an eagerly awaited change to recent fortunes for the Eagles.

As the weather was cold and rainy the performance of all the players on the pitch was anything but dampened down by this, the Eagles team were in good spirits and enjoyed the new look warm up drills practised today.

The Eagles got off to a flying start with them attacking the oppositions goal with gusto and vigour that any premiership side would have been proud of! Within the first 5 minutes there had been at least 3 chances by the Eagles midfield and strike force of Jack Wagstaff, Myles Barrett and Alfie Parsons, the side captained by last weeks player of the day, Jack Wagstaff were out of the starting blocks at blistering pace and left the Raptors standing as the brave Raptors defence and keeper were left in shock by the amazing pace and skill of the Eagles. Jack, Myles, Alf and Adam Sakour along wth all the other Eagles were having attempts on goal. A sweet strike by the Eagles midfield and strike force was not saved by the raptors keeper and cheers erupted around the crowd!

Could this really be the Eagles turning the corner and enjoying a change in fortune? You beat! This was just the start of it, plenty more to come!

There was a genius substitiution that again saw the Eagles attacking the oppositions goal relentlessly and the Eagles were again rewarded for their efforts. The restart saw an impressive surge forward by the attack and winning the ball countless times at every restart. As the crowd were jubilous there was yet another unstoppable strike by the Eagles and the crowd were again jumping for joy.

At this restart Raptors were cautious with the ball and retained possession to leave their half and attack the goal, Jacob Rhodes was yet again outstanding in goal for the Eagles and the defence of Zane Kataria, Kaylen Mistry and George Wilson put in superb performances again, Kaylen winning tackles that looked like lost causes and manging to yet again attack the Raptors goal to yet more whoops from the crowd as another went in.

The half time whistle and subsequent team talk was upbeat and the use of the tactics board reaffirmed what the players were doing right and the most important thing for the children to take away from the game, the enjoyment and fun to be had from it!

The 2nd half began in much the same way as the first with a goal, this time from Jack Wagstaff from his corner kick, it curled deliciously into the back of the net, a goal from the corner taker!!! The cheers were near deafening!

There were a volley of attacks again on the Raptors defence and goal, which saw some amazing drag backs and linked up play from defence to midfield to attack that had the coaching staff with huge grins on their faces at the improvement to the play of the team and saw the children impressing themselves and all the crowd with what they were learning at academy and putting into practice in a game.

There were attacks too on the Eagles goal that were effectively dealt with by the defence and goalkeeper, Jacob, who was commanding the box using the training that he has learnt well. A shift round in play and players and people in different positions did nothing to alter the lightening pace of the Eagles and unfortunately the goal scorers in the correct order in the second half was very difficult to keep track of!

The Raptors did break free however and a brillaint strike found the back of the Eagles net, this then led to the Raptors players heads coming up and some brilliant play in their midfield, which also saw dragbacks from some of their players and unrelentingly attacking the ball and giving the Eagles a real battle in midfield.

This was an outstanding performance today from EVERY player on the field and made the player of the day award very difficult to give out, there were some good shouts from the players for this but the coaches settled on..............

Oadby Owls Eagles v Lutterworth Athletic Thunder - 23rd September 2012 (Group game)

There was a lot of travelling support today for Lutterworth Athletic thunder for the Oadby Owls Eagles second home game. The home crowd were in good form as usual to support the Eagles.

The Eagles, captained by Kaylen Mistry came out for the first half at lightening speed with 2 saves having to be made by the Lutterworth keeper in the first few minutes. Jack Wagstaff having a high velocity shot amazingly saved by the on form keeper. The posession was kept by Eagles well when against the run of play Lutterworth powered down the pitch and scored.

The first half was real end to end stuff with fine saves again being made by Jacob Rhodes who was on form as always. The midfield was being dominated by Adam Sakour and Jack Wagstaff, who were all over the pitch winning the ball for the Eagles. Lutterworth broke free and scored another goal as the defence were trying their hardest to contain the attacking force of Lutterworth.

A period of corners and throw ins occurred for Lutterworth as the whole of the Eagles team ran back to heartily defend for their team with every member of the team clearing the ball as Lutterworth relentlessly pressed forward, unfortunately the worst happened, a cry for hand ball shot up from the Lutterworth team and a penalty was awarded and converted with a brilliant strike that Stuart Pearce would have been proud of!

The half time team talk for the Eagles seemed to have a positive effect on the side, particularly the strike force of Alfie Parsons with more than able support fron Jack Wagstaff and Adam Sakour as Lutterworth seemed to be pinned in their half for a lot of the second.

The crowd were jumping up and down as there were plenty of attempts on goal but the goalkeeper and defence for Lutterworth were first class, Lutterworth again broke free and found the back of the Eagles net despite a sterling performance from defenders Kaylan Mistry, Zane Kataria and George Wilson. A midfield battle occured again with both Adam and Jack making fabulous tackles and some good passing was seen, Lutterworth again powered through both midfield and defence and yet again found the back of the net.

The restart saw a changed Eagles side as they seemed to wake up anew and were tirelessly attacking the Lutterworth defence and goal, Jack Wagstaff, Adam Sakour and Alfie Parsons all having shots at goal that again saw the crowd jumping up and down, when joy! Jack Wagstaff let rip with a strike that found the back of the Lutterworth net bulging with the power of his shot, a well deserved goal for Jack!

This seemed to fire up the Eagles and all of the Eagles players heads shot up for a fine period of play from the team. A tactical decision was made at half time which saw Zane Kataria staying further back in defence and George Wilson coming forward slightly more when the Eagles were attacking and this seemed to have a good effect as Zane was clearing a lot of balls that any defence would have been proud of and George and Kaylen were helping out up front, attempting to feed balls through to Adam, Jack and Alfie Parsons who did everything but score today.

Lutterworth Athletic Thunder, however, were not done and yet again broke free and as the Eagles had been pushing forward left defence short of support and a sneaky little goal found its way in.

On the whole this was a strong attacking performance today for a decimated Eagles team as unfortunately due to circumstances there were no subs available and this had a telling effect on a team that were powerful in midfield, strong when attacking and defending but chances were just not converted into goals as the team seemed to tire, next week however see's the Eagles heading into their first away game, perhaps fortunes will be different when on the road........

Oadby Owls Eagles v Borough Alliance - 9th September 2012 (Group game)

After a mixed bag of results in the pre season friendlies this was an eagerly anticipated match for the Eagles, high on an emphatic win from the last friendly and an outstanding performance from all the players, everyone was asking what would today bring..............fingers crossed for more of the same.

The first half saw some amazing saves from goalkeeper Jacob Rhodes that surely kept the Eagles on an even keel for this half. Jacob saved a barrage of shots and the defence of Zane Kataria, Kaylan Mistry and George Wilson showed real promise in closing down play and clearing the ball from their own half.

The Eagles side, captained by Jack Wagstaff had some shots on target and showed great attacking play, there were very near misses from Alfie Parsons, Jack Wagstaff and Myles Barrett that had the parents and coaches almost leaping for joy then the realisation that it was a near miss hit home to all spectators. There were some free kicks given away in the midfield through some over zealous defending but the Eagles dealt with these well.

The first half finsihed 0-0 and this was largely due to the great goalkeeping of Jacob and the outstanding performance of Kaylan in defence and the sheer tenacity of Adam Sakour who appeared to be all over the field chasing down loose balls and dead balls with his usual doggedness and determination.

The half time team talk from the manager saw a much more attacking side come out on the field for the second half but sadly shortly after kick off the Eagles conceeded a superb strike from Borough Alliance that Kasper Schmeichal would have been hard pressed to save.

Picking themselves up in true Eagles style there was some more excellent attacking play and shots saved again from Alfie, Myles and Adam, against the run of play Borough Alliance scored a rebound goal from a brilliant save from Jacob. This half saw more of the same excellent defending from Kaylan, where there appeared there must have been 3 of him as he was everywhere on the field!

This half also saw a drag back and turn from Alfie that all the coaches would have been proud of, midfield was dominated by Adam, Jack and Myles in turn and some excellent tackles were seen here. The highlight of this half was a goal mouth scramble that saw almost every Eagles player having a boot on the ball but constantly being denied by some excellent goalkeeping from the Borough Alliance keeper. Late on in the half there was a long range effort from Alfie Parsons and some good strong clearences from Zane Kataria.

All in all this was a good strong, promising performance from the Eagles and gave the ever expanding crowd something to cheer about and talk about after. The spectators showed respect to players of both teams and all spectators were discussing the player of day that was a very hard decison to make as there were many contenders for this. An excellent opener to the season and heres hoping for more strong performances for the rest of the season. Well done Eagles!
