Whetstone Panthers v Oadby Owls Eagles - 16th September (Group game)

With the full squad of 10 players featuring Harry Shields, Saajan Ruparelia, Harry Mills, Sebe Hackett-London, Joshua Wiggins, Geordan O’Flynn, Kieran Hamilton, Krishnan Dey, Ned Davies & Danny Stone it was time for the 2nd game of the new season.

Shown live on the Good Food channel and broadcast simultaneously on Saga radio, the Eagles moved the ball around fluently enough, created several chances, possessed a fabulous young talented team and even scored a goal but something was missing.

Appearing suitably psyched up by legendry coach Mark Shields 31, the Eagles started well, their momentum boosted by initial inability of Whetstone to string two passes together. A fluid, essentially 2-3-1 visiting formation featuring Harry MHarry SJosh & Danny as the link between midfield and attack certainly seemed to confuse the Whetstone players.

Gradually though, the Eagles began losing a little positional discipline and, spotting the gaps as star players SebeKrishnan & Saajan rampaged forward from their midfield role Whetstone began initiating the home attack only to face Ned & Geordon holding up the defence

With the crowd on the edge of their seats the Eagles suddenly produced a sizzling master class of attacking football to demolish the home team and with an inch perfect pass by DannyHarry M scored the 1st goal of the day. The Eagles came alive especially with Harry S & Saajan seemingly reborn in their central striking role, Krishnan, lurking on the left, delivering another menacing performance and, stationed just behind, Sebe & Josh applying their fluid Spanish touches

Captain & goalkeeper Kieran made some top quality saves as his defence Geordon & Ned, who both had yet another excellent game repeatedly mesmerized the Whetstones attack with their movement and positional interchanging.

Mark Shields 31, who later released a statement through his Solicitor said: “The first 20 minutes was of a high level, a good combination of pace, speed of passing combinations. The second half we lost a bit of urgency but we controlled the game. There is a positive energy in this team, a desire to play well together so the future is very exciting”

Oadby Owls Eagles v Lutterworth Cyclones - 9th September 2012 (Group game)

With a squad featuring Harry Shields, Saajan Ruparelia, Harry Mills, Sebe Hackett-London, Joshua Wiggins, Geordan O’Flynn, Kieran Hamilton, Krishnan Dey, Ned Davies & Danny Stone (sadly on holiday) it is no wonder that people talk admiringly of the Oadby Owls golden generation.

Shown live and in 3D on Setanta Sports 4 the only word to describe the opening game was outstanding ,can it be possible to sum up the raw, shredded emotion of those exhilarating 40 minutes, the scale of what it meant to the young players to start the season with an amazing game...no it can’t

Manager, Mark Shields 33, opted for an experienced line-up and within 90 seconds of kick off was rewarded with a goal from new summer signing Harry M scoring is first ever Eagles goal.

However the Eagles were tense, nervous, rushing passes, unable to find their usual rhythm despite having a huge amount of possession. It took Harry S to settle the nerves of the Eagles and score the next goal, supported upfront by Saajan & Krishnan.

The ability of the Eagles wingers Sebe & Joshua to skip past the Lutterworth full-backs was a particular source of frustration for the home support and when Geordon played a beautiful ball to Saajan who easily beat the Lutterworth keeper and whistled a sharp ball across the goal line the crowd thought it was game over.

In the last minute of first half Lutterworth were given space down the left flank and their top player floated a cross over to the back post where a wicked bounce in front of top Eagles keeper Kieran brought Lutterworth back into the game.

With a second half that saw the crowd on their feet for most of it, the game was up there with some of the Eagles top performances in terms of entertainment and quality, TV Quick Manager of the year 2011, Mark Shields, will be happy to have ground out another exciting game which further proves he still has the know-how to formulate a group challenging team at the grand old age of 33

Player of the Day: Ned Davis

Goals Scorers: Harry Mills (1), Harry Shields (1), Saajan Ruparelia (1)
