Groby Juniors V Oadby Owls Snowys - 18th November 2012 (Group game)

With the opponents being one of the best teams about and previous experiences the Snowys knew they would be in for a real test!

The Snowys started well and had a string of corners before a quick break and fantastic corner put Groby in the driving seat and left the Snowys shaken. A defence splitting ball from Jack saw Joseph through on goal and he finished well. A good individual effort from Matteo  took the Snowys into the break close to their opponents.

The second half was a closer affair for most of the half with both teams cancelling the other out until two great Groby corners were headed home putting some daylight between the teams.

All Snowys players should keep their heads held high as they did themselves proud against a team packed full of elite academy players who get to train as a team twice a week and matched them for most of the game and the only real difference was the clinical finishing from set pieces.

Player of the Day: Jeevan

Goals Scorers: Joseph and Matteo

Oadby Owls Snowys V Harborough Razors - 4th November 2012 - (Group)

This was the Snowys first game against a Harborough team and it wasn't long before a “Sharp” Razors attack was turned in by a helpless Snowys player. Captain Jack then rallied his troops on this cold and very wet day and it wasn't long before goals from Joseph and Alex settled the boys against a very strong opponent.

The second half was just as tough with Freddie , Gurveer , Joel and Craig being tested in defence  Jeevan had to be ready at all times. Whilst Jack, Alex, Elijah and Matteo  gave extra protection and creativity in midfield. That left Joseph up front providing the Snowys with a constant threat. Alex and Joseph grabbed another goal each to see the Snowys over the line.

Player of the Day: Gurveer

Goals Scorers: Alex 2 and Joseph 2

Allexton Eagles V Oadby Owls Snowys - 21st October 2012 (Group game)

On a foggy  October  morning  the Snowys were glad to be wearing their new orange academy kit for the trip to New Parks as it allowed them to see each other!

The Snowys started a lot brighter than the day and created chance after chance straight from the off. As the first half ticked by the pressure from the Snowys built and all the hard work and fantastic team play paid off with Joseph scoring two in quick succession using the excellent skill and sharp finishing that we have come to expect from him.  Allexton then started to make a real game of it but couldn’t find a way past the solid defensive pairings of Joel, Freddie and Mr never fear Gurveer is here. Alex controlled the centre of the park with a dominate display whilst Matteo was a constant threat, down the right wing always finding good space or pulling defenders out of position to benefit his team mates.

The Snowys seemed to take their foot off the gas in the second half and this allowed Allexton to grow in confidence giving us a real test. The Cat Jeevan seemed to enjoy having some work to do showing all his GK skills and a super safe pair of hands. The quality of the Snowys still shone through despite not being at their best more chances were created and eventually Alex dashed on to an Alexton goal kick before squaring the ball to Jack who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner capping off a good game for him in which he had shown a great range of passing. Allexton then got a deserved goal for their second half showing catching the Snowys day dreaming!

Player of the Day: Jack

Goals Scorers: Joseph(2) and Jack

St Andrews V Oadby Owls Snowys - 28th October 2012 (Friendly)

With the pre-match management conversations including phrases like “take it easy on us”, “play your weaker players” and “your reputation goes before you” from a saints manager who was desperate for a friendly the Snowys didn’t know what to expect from the opposition. One thing we didn't expect was an U10’s Gk and ? marks on another couple of players.

With Jeevan missing Joseph went in the sticks for the first half and proved a good replacement being called into action on a number of occasions without letting any past him. The first half flew by as a real end to end game went on with both teams creating chances.

Freddie put the gloves on for the second half and like Joe proved great cover for the GK position with an impressive performance. The second half was similar to the first with the Snowys creating the better of the chances and even had 2 goals disallowed. With EVERYONE of the Snowys players having a great game the player of the day award was extra difficult and it was Matteo’s  determination, movement and ability to just get on with the game when perhaps decisions didn’t go his way that just edged it.

Oadby Owls Snowys V Aylestone Park Youth - 7th October 2012 (Group)

Finally it was here our “First Home Game of The Season” with a change in kick off time providing us with a lovely sunny afternoon we wanted to put are hard work in training to good use and put in a good performance.

Both teams shown from the off their desire to get the result they wanted with some real end to end stuff and good football from both teams. Finally the passing and movement paid off when a quick break allowed Craig his first chance on goal, a lovely through ball still left the on-rushing Craig a lot to do, but a calm and composed finish put the Snowys on the scoreboard. Every player was putting in a real shift and playing really well.

More of the same followed in the second half with both teams having chances, but any Aylestone chance was soon under control either by the Snowys strong and reliable defence or safe hands of The Cat Jeevan who’s quick and accurate distribution allowed  the Snowys to get straight back on the attack and when Joseph received the ball on the left wing we were all treated to a wonder goal when he cut back on to his right foot on the edge of the box and bent a lovely shot into the far corner.

Thanks to Suky for being the Ref and Raj for the half time refreshments (enjoyed at full-time)

Player of the Day: Freddie

Goals Scorers: Craig and Joseph

Highfield Rangers V Oadby Owls Snowys - 30th September 2012 (Friendly)

The Snowys went into this game hoping for a good test, missing GK Jeevan and Alex meant a change in position for a few lads with Elijah and Guveer doing a half each in goal.

It wasn’t long before the Snowys realised they were in for a real tough game playing against not only a physical Highfields team but a ref not keen to blow his whistle for free kicks and penalties. The Snowys took the lead through Joseph with another well worked team goal with the midfield trio of Jack, Freddie and Matteo being allowed to pass the ball around well in front of a dependable defence pairing of Joel and Craig. Despite dominating the game the Snowys went in to half time on level terms after a unlucky OG.

The half time team talk did involve asking the players if they even wanted to play the second half as a few were showing battle scars and upset by the refs decisions, but in true Snowys style the boys agreed to let their football do the talking and headed back out on to the pitch.

With a really strong hard working team ethic the Snowys continued to dominate creating chance after chance before finally capitalising thanks to Matteo. Not wanting to show any favouritism but I do have to give a mention to Jack who not only had a really good game but showed his teammates how much they mean to him by doing what he could (within the rules) to keep some of the opposition under control. Another freak O.G. out the blue capped off the Snowys day who left with heads held high. Well done to all the lads and parents on their behaviour.

Syston town tigers V Oadby Owls Snowys - 16th September 2012 (Group game)

After last week’s performance the Snowys were hoping to get back to their old selves and show off their passing game and incredible hard/teamwork. With our only other experience of Syston teams being the Sharks who always proved a tough opponent, we didn’t know what to expect from the Tigers.

From the off the Snowys looked a lot sharper and showed real hunger not only win the ball back but to get the result. With the passing and movement of ALL Snowys being of an excellent standard it wasn’t long before the chances came and first to convert was Joseph with a neat left footed effort slipped down the side of the keeper. Two more goals followed from close range after some really good play with Freddie and Elijah getting on the score sheet.

Stepping up a gear the Snowys dominated the second half and it wasn’t long before Matteo netted to reward him with a good performance as despite not seeing as much of the ball as usual his positional play and movement helped create space and chances for others (it doesn’t go un-noticed). With whoever was playing at the back Gurveer, Joel, Craig or Freddie showing good awareness and the work ethic of the midfield trio of Jack, Elijah and Alex any Syston attack was quickly under control. Alex then capped off a fine display with 2 goals of his own, the team performance was then capped off with another goal from Joseph who himself had an incredible game creating many chances for himself and others.

A special mention for our goal keeper Jeevan who after last week’s peppering found himself with little to do, but was always ready to tidy up and distribute quickly. In fact one of his biggest contributions which seemed to please all his teammates was the way his distribution of the half time oranges he kindly provided .

Player of the Day: Alex

Goals Scorers: Alex (2), Joseph (2), Freddie, Elijah and Matteo

Barrow Town Hawks V Oadby Owls Snowys - 9th September 2012 (Group game)

The Snowys headed into this first group game of the season in good form and on a lovely sunny September afternoon everyone was confident of getting a good result although we knew Barrow would be tough opponents from previous meetings.

The game began and it wasn’t long before Barrow took the lead with a long ball over the top catching the Snowys defence to far up the field. It was then end to end stuff and clear to see that the Snowys weren’t at their best being court out time and time again and heavily reliant on “THE CAT” Jeevan in goal. As the half progressed signs of the Snowys ability shone through and a sublime defence splitting ball from Jack to Craig who finished clinically got the Snowys back into the game. Some better midfield play allowed Matteo to cross the ball from the right wing and Jack was on hand to just knock it under the keeper, Alex was the next player to get on the score sheet with a strong finish. Both teams had more chances before the break and so we went into half time evenly matched.

The second half was similar to the first with both teams creating chances , as the Snowys started to look tired Barrow were helped with an assist from a deck chair and an extremely soft penalty. With the final whistle seconds away the Snowys attacked quickly and in a busy penalty area Joseph managed to tap one home. Not the Snowys best display then but something for the managers to work on.

Player of the Day: Freddie

Goals Scorers: Craig, Jack, Alex and Joseph

Netherhall Diamonds V Oadby Owls Snowys - 2nd September 2012 (Friendly)

After a good run of results and performances the Snowys went into their last game before next week’s season opener full of confidence. With a full squad of 10 players (something the management have never had) the Snowys look to have lots of options and strength across the field and could prove to be a real match for anyone. With an experimental squad rotation/substitution policy in place ensuring equal game time for everyone the Snowys management looked to keep everyone happy!!!!!

The game started and within a matter of minutes the strength and quality of all the Snowys players shone through and quickly took the lead with goals from Elijah and Alex. The passing and movement of all players made for a fantastic team performance with players finding and creating space when on the attack whilst keeping their shape and working hard when defending. More first half goals followed through Matteo, Elijah and Craig.

More of the same followed in the second half with some great wing play and pressing from the defence produced even more goals with a brace from Freddie  and a Hat Trick from Joseph. A special mention for our goalkeeper Jeevan who may not have seen much of the action but who was always on-guard and distributed the ball well from his goal kicks.

An excellent display all round and a joy to watch. The only complaint was that after winning the Mars Bar Challenge manager Nathan Burton was not presented with a single bar despite the “PING” of the crossbar still echoing across Knighton Park.

Player of the Day: Craig

Goals Scorers: Elijah (2), Alex, Matteo, Craig, Freddie (2) and Joseph (3)

Quorn Foxes V Oadby Owls Snowys - Sunday 26th August

With a number of Snowys players away for this bank holiday weekend fixture Anas  of the Hawkes was drafted in to make up the bare 7 players needed. Quorn had proven to be strong opponents of late after a few meetings through the summer tournaments, so we knew we would be in for a good game.

With the regular GK away Jack went in the nets for the first half and despite a strong Snowys start his first touch was to pick the ball out of the net. It wasn’t long before the Snowys were back on level terms through a stunning 20 yard Alex free kick. Before the break the Snowys took the lead through Elijah’s quick reactions after Alex had struck the post.

New recruit Anas went in goal for the second half and a few changes in position’s only improved the look of the team and with Matteo  in the mood to put on a real display beating people with ease turning the Quorn players inside-out and spraying passes to the feet of his team mates all over the field it wasn’t long before more goals came. Alex netted again from the edge of the box and this was soon followed by a lovely quick counter attack when Anas made a superb pass to Matteo on the right wing who continued his run beating the Quorn defender and playing an inch perfect pass to the on rushing Jack who calmly finished into the bottom corner.

Confidence was now oozing from the Snowys and the football being played was a joy to watch (Barcelona springs to mind) with the boys holding their positions well, using the whole width of the pitch chance after chanced were created. The governor Gurveer netted from a corner shortly after just missing with a header, as the Snowys forced corner after corner. After making his Snowys debut against LCFC Craig put in another battling display and should now be confident of his ability to fit into his new team.

Player of the Day: Matteo

Goals Scorers: Alex (2), Elijah, Jack and Gurveer

Oadby Owls Snowys v Leicester City Academy - Friday 24th August 2012

The invite for this fixture didn’t come until Monday afternoon but thanks to a quick response from the parents we could quickly accept the offer to take on the academy boys of Leicester!

As the Snowys arrived,  you could see a few nervous faces and some excited ones too. Once in the dressing room a confidence building team talk and a few words from experienced LCFC academy players Matteo and Joseph settled any nerves and meant we headed into the Dome fired up and ready to play. A quick warm up on the 4G surface helped the boys get a feel for it and before we knew it was game time!

Splitting the 10 man squad into 2 x 5 a-side teams gave all the players chance to try different roles within the team with only our fantastic GK Jeevan “The Cat” keeping his usual role.  Both Snowys teams shone from the off and the LCFC boys soon realised they were in for a real test. Too much action happened to cover in a report so here is a quick mention on all players: Joel strong in both defence and attack, always looking for a pass. Freddie strong on the break and fully committed. Craig making his debut he more than held his own with a superb display. Gurveer played from the back creating lots of chances with his eye for a pass and troubling the opposition with his long range efforts.

Elijah with his twinkle toe runs, eye for goal and great range of passing he was soon under the radar of the watching city scouts! Alex gave up his normally attacking role to provide this attacking team with some strength at the back but used his lightening pace to help out on the attack and get back to defend. Joseph nickname RVP because this boy can score when he wants, a constant goal threat. Matteo plays football how it should be played, his constant passing and movement helped create chance after chance for his team. Jack gave 110% battling from start to finish helping out at both ends of the pitch.

Unlike the LCFC boys the Snowys didn’t have the luxury of subs and finished the night red faced and completely drained but happy in the knowledge that they had the better of the results. This left two very pleased and extremely proud coaches to reflect on a job well done!

Ibstock Tournament - Sunday 19th August 2012

With only one friendly game under their belts the Snowys went into this tournament looking to blow away any cobwebs and get some match sharpness ahead of the new season, what they actually got was 5 fantastic performances! Playing as a real team unit and showing football maturity well beyond their years the Snowys dominated every game and in doing so really enjoying the tournament. In fact every member of the squad including GK Jeevan got on the score sheet during the day! With a further bonus of completing the tournament without letting a single goal in, thanks to the solid pairing of Joel and Gurveer.  Highlights of the day include Freddie’s bullet header from a corner,  Matteo beating people with ease,  Alex’s  top corner finish,  Jack’s robot celebrations after his close range efforts, Gurveer’s hat-trick , a rare Joel goal and the constant goal threat of Joseph. Well done to all the boy’s thanks for all your hard work and remember “if we all work hard for each other and play as a team we will get the right result”.

Player of the Day: Gurveer

Goals Scorers: Alex, Matteo, Freddie, Jack, Gurveer, Joseph, Joel and Jeevan

Knighton Park Rangers v Oadby Owls Snowys - Saturday 18th August 2012 (Friendly)

With their first preseason training session changed to this game the Snowys went into this game fresh but un-prepared.  It wasn’t long before the Snowys settled into their game of passing and moving despite the long grass. With the goals starting to go in through Joseph and Alex the Snowys really pressed on creating lots of chances. Early in the second half the Snowys were awarded a penalty which was fired home into the roof of the net by Matteo this was closely followed by a KPR og and two more from Joseph. Everyone played really well and went home pleased with our performance!

Player of the Day: Joel

Goals Scorers: Joseph (3), Alex, Matteo and own goal
