Oadby Owls Barnys 2 Rugby Lions 3 - 13th April 2013 (League)

Barnys final game of the season and it is a right cracker, with the Barnys being the only team to dent the Lions armour this season in the division and not surprisingly the game started with both teams looking equally matched with end to end pressure.

The Lions started the goal tally with a neat early shot in the right corner and then the challenge was on for the Barnys as they counter attacked with silky smooth passing in midfield from Anay-jay Chauhan and  Deacon Gray, which also lead to the first Barnys goal with neat pass from Deacon Gray to Morgan Tunneycliff  to shoot a low ball into the back of the net.

This pressure continued from the Barny's with a number of long range shots from Deacon Gray and Morgan Tunneycliff  plus one shot just go wide from Josh Baxter. Lions tried to counter attack in this the last part of the first half but defence duo Hugo Feldmann and Tom Thorne doing a stellar job in defence.

First half finished - Oadby Owls Barnys 1  Rugby Lions 1

Second half started almost like the first half with again end to end pressure, but within minutes with lions pressure a home goal from a deflection from the Barnys gave the lions the lead.

Barnys are not one to go into their shell once down ,and after large amounts of pressure are awarded a free kick taken by Hugo Feldmann just gets kicked out of the box for a corner, taken by Anay-jay Chauhan to be headed in goal by Morgan Tunneycliff  ..Brilliant goal.

Within the last five minutes Barnys slipped up to give the lions an open goal for the lions to take the lead.

Lions continued to pressure the Barnys with their attacks and Barnys goal keeper Flynn Lowe-Spicer making some excellent saves to keep their chances alive but it wasn't to be.

An unlucky game for the Barnys as they was the better team but just got punished by a few errors.

Oadby Owls Barnys 3 Borough Alliance Falcons 1 - 7th April 2013 (League)

In the early spring sunshine the Barneys had a comfortable win against Borough Alliance. From the kick off the Barnys attacked the opponents goal and for most of the first half the ball was in the Alliance’s half. There were several good moves instigated by Josh Baxter on the right wing with Morgan Tunneycliff having several attempts at goal. Josh Baxter continued to keep the pressure on the Alliance with his runs down the right and Declan Gray narrowly headed over after one such foray. Alliance conceded several corners but the home team were unable to take advantage.

Oliver Holyland  had a long range effort and Morgan Tunneycliff executed a clever overhead kick that hit the post. There were a number of lowing moves from the Barney’s attack, but the Alliance’s defence was holding up well and their keeper made a number of important saves, particularly one from Declan Gray. It was not until the 13th minute that alliance made a foray into the Barney’s half. However the Barnys kept up the pressure and were eventually rewarded with a goal through a deflected shot from Josh Baxter. The second goal followed quickly on 18 minutes when great build up play was finished off expertly by Declan Gray.

In the second half there was more pressure from the Barnys. However, against the run of play and attacking for only the second time, Borough Alliance  cut the deficit with a scrambled goal. Barnys immediately hit back with a long range effort from Hugo Feldmann. Barnys third goal followed with Declan Gray scoring with a rebounded shot from a Barnys’free kick.  Anay-Jay Chauhan and Henry Wyness started to impress themselves on the Alliance’s goal with both having shots well saved by the keeper. In the final two minutes Declan Gray had a goal disallowed and there was a great run and shot from Morgan Tunneycliff.

The Barny’s were well worthy of their 3-1 win and this result sets up an exciting league finale against their top of the table rivals Rugby next week.
