East Goscote V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 9th March 2014

On a lovely summers morning we travelled over to East Goscote without Charlie who was missing for today’s squad. The boys had a good warm up and then we gathered round for a pre-game chat and last minute drink. We started the game well with Jake dribbling well down the right wing and firing a cross into the centre of the pitch but was too quick for our on rushing striker. East Goscote also started well and tried to mount an attack but for a great tackle from Isaac to win the ball in midfield. From an East Goscote goal kick Mason read the pass superbly and intercepted the ball before it could reach the player, he arrowed a shot goal bound but for it to sneak wide of the post brilliant anticipation! This time it was Jake that found half a yard to get a shot on goal again agonisingly the wrong side of the post. East Goscote was finding their feet now and attempted another attack but Alec read the play and tackled superbly before dribbling the ball to safety! East Goscote then broke away and found the striker 1 on 1 with the Oadby goalie and the striker powered home the shot to give them the lead. East Goscote won the ball soon after the kick off after exploiting a poor pass in the Oadby half and we paid the price as again they found the back of our net. Oadby started to settle back into the game and managed some good possession in midfield before East Goscote won the ball and played a cross into the goal area, Shaan bravely dived towards the attacker’s feet winning the ball to stop the attack. East Goscote picked the ball up in midfield and their star player with 2 goals to his name already grabbed his hat trick after beating 3 Oadby players before hammering the ball home. Oadby again forced their way forward as Cole started an attack by beating 2 men with a good dribble before finding Isaac, he played a lovely 1-2 with Mason then fired a shot wide of the goal, a superb team! The half time whistle sounded and the boys wandered over with their heads down, time for the Danny and Suky to rally the boys!

A quick chat about continuing to do the right things, keep creating the chances and reminders of superb come backs in the past like Netherhall Diamonds and Glen Villa soon rallied the troops! The boys raced out of the blocks and it was Shaan on the ball first as he found Alec with a neat pass, Alec got his head up and found Cole who managed to get a shot at goal but for the keeper to save. The early signs were positive but could these boys claw the game back one more time? We found out sooner rather than later as Shaan popped up on the ball and placed his shot past the keeper with a cool finish GOAL! The boys took this momentum and ran, literally as Cole won the ball and went on a strong run forwards but for the ball to run away from his feet and out for a goal kick. We’d spoke at the end of the first quarter how well Mason had read the goal keepers movements and asked the boys to learn from him, as Goscote took the resulting goal kick Shaan raced forwards and stole the ball off of the defenders toe, heading goal wards he hit the ball sweetly and it flew by the keeper to bring the boys back into the game GOAL! Goscote made an attempt at an attack only for Mason to defend superbly standing his ground and winning the ball before passing it back to Jake in goal to ease the pressure. Shortly after Oadby broke again and with some great passing from the boys the ball ended up with Shaan bearing down on goal could he level the game………………GOAL! Great finish to even the game, an almighty roar erupted from the touchline what a fight back from the boys! The remainder of the quarter was contested in midfield, but what a turnaround from the boys, as the whistle blew the boys bounded over for the team talk great teamwork boys!

The third quarter was a tight affair as neither team wanted to concede but it was Oadby with the first chance as Cole dribbled forward and played the ball inside to Mason, as a defender closed him down quickly he made a superb block tackle with the ball ending up at Jake’s feet, he beat his man and shot at goal but for the keeper to save his effort. Next up was Shaan as he picked up a loose ball and drove at Goscote before putting a great cross into the box but for no Oadby player to get on the end of it. Again Oadby won the ball back in our half and Shaan played a beautifully weighted pass to Cole who turned his man with one touch (as we’d been working on previously in training) only to be fouled and a free kick awarded. Cole took the free kick but his shot sailed harmlessly wide of the goal. Goscote had one really good chance in the half and as the striker fired a shot toward the bottom left hand corner, Alec dived to his right to produce an amazing save tipping the ball around the post and out for a corner.

With the game still tight and tense we entered the final quarter, this time it was Goscote that had the first chance but for Mason to make a good save and palm the ball away, he then jumped up and tackled the on rushing Goscote player to deny him as well! Oadby attacked again this time it was Isaac who had the awareness to get his head up and find Alec running through on goal, he fired a vicious left footed strike at goal but for the keeper to pull off a great save to deny him (see above picture). As the ball bounced up in the air the Goscote striker with his back to goal and on the left hand wing hooked the ball over his head and towards goal, the ball looped over the keeper and into the net with everyone applauding his audacious goal! Next up Goscote broke again but for Jake to make a great saving tackle and avert any danger heading our way, Oadby battled back up the pitch and saw an attempted pass go out for a goal kick. Having wised up earlier in the game it was Shaan again who read the pass and latched onto the loose kick seeing his shot fly agonisingly wide! As Goscote attempted to work their way down the pitch Cole picked up the ball on the right hand side and drove inwards with determination, he fired his shot low into the corner and GOAL! Again the crowd erupted, jumping and cheering in celebration! Oadby took the momentum and attacked again this time it was Alec who shot just wide. Then Goscote began to attack first it was Jake with a great covering tackle, then with Isaac finding himself as the last man with 2 players running at him, he won the ball superbly and put in out for a throw in. Oadby found themselves with a goal kick and as we tried to play out of defence the ball went across our own penalty box and straight to the strikers feet who finished into the corner of the goal. Oadby had time for another attack and it fell to Shaan who showed great feet before seeing his shot saved by the keeper. The final whistle soon sounded and brought an end to one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever seen. The boy’s played superbly and it’s a credit to their teamwork and desire to help each other and never give up! The game ended in handshakes and a penalty shootout, and what a treat as goal after Oadby goal was fired in from the spot and save after save from Mason as he kept out 6 of the Goscote’s 8 penalties great performance Mason! The boys gathered round for the team debrief, everyone was delighted with their teamwork and will to win. Again the boy’s had announced the player of the match before I could, as I’m sure all agreed it was Shaan for his tremendous hat trick, dribbling skills and composure on the ball, great game Shaan. But Mason’s heroics in the penalty shootout didn’t go unnoticed and it was decided he too deserved the trophy for his performance. Another great showing from this evolving group, next up a tough game with a Leicester City Development Squad!

Barrow Town V Oadby Owls Tawnys & Melton Foxes V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 2nd March 2014

Well today saw an exciting day for our boys as they were going to be playing two different teams in two separate 30 minute matches! Barrow Town hosted the event with Melton Foxes joining us for the morning, first up for us was Barrow Town. No one could have imagined the opening 15 minutes to this game, Oadby took kick off with the ball being passed to Cole who dribbled past the whole team and had slotted the ball past the Barrow goalkeeper almost before the sound of the whistle had faded GOAL what a start! Barrow’s players were not to be outdone and from the restart they forced their way through the Tawny’s defence and managed to get back on level terms within 30 seconds! With the game barely a minute old we were on our third kick off and it wasn’t going to stop there as Oadby built an attack which ended with Jake beating his marker and scoring a cool finish past the keeper to restore Oadby’s lead GOAL! With less than 3 minutes on the clock Oadby again attacked this time Shaan was on the ball and he played a lovely pass inside to Cole who finished well into the bottom left hand corner giving the keeper no chance GOAL! (see picture below) Barrow again tried to mount an attack this time Charlie was quick off his line to win the ball from the attacker, he played the ball out to Shaan’s feet and he set about a mazy dribble up the right wing cutting inside and firing a shot goal bound but for a good save from the keeper. Again Oadby attacked this time Cole again found himself with a shooting chance but for a great save from the keeper, the ball fell to Shaan who saw his attempted shot blocked by the Barrow defence. Barrow began a counter attack and caught Oadby cold as they managed to grab another goal and hoped of a fight back. This spurned Oadby on and Jake forced his way forward and saw his shot again saved by the Barrow keeper, as Barrow came back at Oadby Isaac made a superb tackle in defence to halt any danger that was coming our way. As Shaan was running towards goal he was fouled and a free kick awarded, he dusted himself down and fired a shot goal bound but for a good save from the keeper but the defender got his feet in a tangle and bundled the ball into his own net GOAL! A couple of changes for Oadby saw Mason and Alec enter the game, Oadby again attacked and this time it was Shaan who beat his man and finished calmly past the keeper GOAL! Barrow again attacked down the left wing with Oadby winning the ball back before attempting to pass across our own penalty area resulted in the Barrow striker intercepting the ball and finishing into the bottom right corner, one to work on the training ground I think! After some good midfield work from Alec he managed to find Mason who fired the ball at goal but to only find the side netting, great strike! Oadby again tried to mount an attack but lost possession of the ball and left the defence in a 2 on 1 scenario which Barrow exploited and managed to find the net again. Mason again found himself with a sight at goal and his effort flew just wide of the post with the keeper standing. Oadby forced a corner before the half time whistle and with a well worked move Shaan played a short pass into Mason’s feet who’s shot again found the side netting with a great first time shot!

The second half again saw changes for the Oadby team and this half started as a midfield battle with both team trying to regain control of the game, Oadby broke forward and with some fantastic footwork from Isaac he wriggled away from two defenders before being fouled for a free kick, his resulting shot was blocked by a defender and out for an Oadby corner. Charlie took charge of the corner and found Isaac’s feet after some good movement to lose his marker his first time shot flashed wide of the goal. Oadby regained control and started to push forward more but the Barrow keeper was in superb form this half with a good save from Charlie’s goal bound volley and again from Isaac’s rebound attempt. Barrow attacked down the left wing and fizzed a cross into the box which Cole pounced on at the attacker’s feet bravely, he then rolled the ball out to Mason who in turn found Charlie with a pass inside, he took a touch and played the ball to Isaac who was fouled by the Barrow defender. The resulting free kick was drilled towards the bottom right corner from Isaac but for another good save from the keeper. A couple of changes were made and both Shaan and Jake were reintroduced to the game and they linked up well as Shaan found Jake who’s shot smashed against the left hand post! (see picture below) The end of the game soon followed and a good display from both teams ended with handshakes all round, well done boys!

After a ten minute break Oadby found themselves facing Melton Foxes and again with a couple of changes the game got underway and it was Shaan with the first meaningful attempt at goal as he curled a shot towards the far post but for the keeper to save well. After a hand ball decision was giving against Oadby, Melton found themselves with a chance at goal to which Mason was ready tipping the ball around the post and out for a corner which was defended well. Oadby attacked again this time with Cole playing in defence somehow found himself beating the last man and being one on one with keeper and with the form he was in today there was one outcome GOAL! Cole then again found himself with a chance at goal seeing his shot saved and Melton broke away bringing a superb diving save from Mason to deny the striker! Shaan raced down the right wing and beat one man before being tackled by a Melton defender, the ball fell kindly for Charlie who finished into the bottom left hand corner GOAL!

The second half again saw some changes and Oadby started brightly again forcing a corner which Alec took short into Mason who’s shot whistled wide of the goal. Melton attacked and fired a shot at goal which Isaac gathered comfortably before rolling the ball out to start another attack which saw Alec fouled inside the opponents half, he fired the resulting free kick goal bound but a block on the goal line denied him a goal (see picture above). Another Oadby attack saw Jake beat his man and get a shot at goal but for a good save from the keeper, Melton tried to counter and seemed to break through but for a great bit of sweeping from Cole as he won the ball and stopped the attack. Again Melton tried to attack but for a strong tackle from Alec who then had the vision to see Cole running through and found him with the pass as Cole finished past the keeper GOAL! Oadby made a couple of changes again as Shaan and Charlie headed back onto the pitch, and it didn’t take Shaan long to make an impact as Jake  passed to Alec, he laid the ball inside to Shaan and he stroked the ball into the bottom left hand corner ended a good team move GOAL! Again Oadby attacked this time Alec and Charlie linking up before finding Shaan who again found the back of the net GOAL! With the game drawing to a close it was Shaan that had the last say as he finished off a superb last 5 minutes as he grabbed his 3rd goal calmly finishing past the Melton keeper. The game came to an end and again the boys were congratulated on two great performances with some lovely flowing football and some very good defending from the boys, the man of the match was awarded over both games and went to Shaan this week for his mazy dribbling skills and fantastic finishes, well done to all for a great morning of football. The day was ended with Barrow Town playing Melton Foxes and all teams enjoyed playing in this triple threat of matches.

Football & Fitness Academy V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 23rd February 2014

After the half term break last week the boys were eager to get back into football and today saw us playing on an immaculate 3G surface away to Football and Fitness Academy in a slightly unfamiliar game of two 20 minute halves. Over the last month we’ve been working on quickening our tempo on attacks, receiving the ball and turning with 1 touch techniques and getting our heads up to look for team mates in space,  the management team asked the boys to try and implement these new skills into todays game. With just a bit of wind in the air the conditions were pretty good compared to last time out at Groby and as the game got underway Oadby started with good passing and general team play. Jake was first to mount a serious attack as he dribbled past a defender and towards goal but for a great last ditch tackle from the F & F defender putting the ball out for a throw in. Oadby again attacked this time it was Isaac’s magic feet as he took on the midfielder, then a defender and as he attacked the last man between him and the goalkeeper the defender managed to close him down and halt his run great dribbling skills! F & F attacked our penalty area but the resulting shot went harmlessly wide of the goal, Alec took the goal kick and passed out to Shaan who then found Charlie racing down the right wing, he got the ball under control and tried to find Jake in the centre of the pitch but for the defenders toe to divert the ball from his path and a sure goal scoring opportunity a great team move! A quick change saw Cole enter the game and he made an immediate impact as he ran strongly at the heart of the F & F defence setting the tone for his game early on, not long after he found himself defending his own goal with a striker pressuring him quickly Cole played a simple pass back to Alec in goal which took the pressure off of the team great intelligent play! Again Cole found himself in possession of the ball in midfield and moved forward before finding Shaan with a pass, he took a touch to set himself before firing a shot just wide of the post with a good direct team move. Then the breakthrough happened as Cole picked up the ball in his own half, he beat the only defender and found himself running through towards the goal with Jake in support, Cole went alone this time and placed his shot into the bottom left hand corner going in off the post GOAL!!!!!!! It wasn’t long before another chance came around as Alec produced a superb block tackle in midfield before passing the ball to Shaan, he beat his man and hit the ball goal bound but for it to rebound back off of the post and towards an F & F defender and Cole who managed to beat his man to the ball and with a first time finish direct it into the bottom right hand corner with the keeper grounded from the earlier shot GOAL!!!!!!! F & F tried to attack but were held back as Cole won the ball with a superb tackle and Shaan pounced on the loose ball and ran towards goal, he shot was palmed away by the keeper and fell to Alec who hit the ball on the volley, it whistled by the left hand post for a goal kick great technique Alec! The halftime whistle sounded soon after and brought to an end a good first performance from the boys.

A few more changes saw the second half get underway and the Tawnys were eager to add to the goals as Mason found himself with a chance which went just wide of the near post. Jake picked up the ball in his own half and raced down the right wing beating the first man before attempting a cross to the calling Mason in the middle but for a F & F defender to get a block in. Oadby pushed forward and forced a corner which Jake spotting the chance, took quickly to Mason who hit a first time shot towards goal but just wide of the post. F & F tried to break out of defence but for Mason to stand tall and block the attempted pass and find himself tussling with the defender for the ball, Mason was first and unleased a thunder bolt of a shot which the keeper couldn’t hold and the rebound fell kindly back to Mason who slotted the ball into the back of the net GOAL!!!!!! Again Oadby attacked and won a corner on the far side, Mason took charge and whipped in a great corner that saw Jake leap into the air and crash a header just wide of the far post with a great attempt! Oadby won another corner soon after which Mason collected the ball to take, a shout of mix it up came from the Oadby management and Isaac sprang into action with a delightful curved run leaving his marker standing as he found space to receive a simple ground pass from Mason, F & F were quick to his touch and nicked the ball starting a counter attack of their own only for Oadby to do what they had done all game as they hunted down the F & F attackers in pairs which saw Jake attempt the first tackle before Charlie won the ball with a superb tackle to halt the attack great defensive teamwork! A few more changes midway through the second half saw Cole back on the pitch and again he made an immediate impact as he dribbled out from defence beating two F & F players before finding Charlie racing down the right wing, he managed to keep the ball in play superbly with a cheeky little drag back but for a defender to get a toe in and put the ball out for a throw in. Alec reintroduced himself back into the game with a great interception before getting his head up and finding Charlie in the centre of the pitch 20 yards out, he took a touch to set himself and fired at goal putting the ball into the bottom left hand corner for another Oadby GOAL!!!!!! F & F continued to try and attack and it looked as if they might be in on goal but for Cole sweeping round and making a great covering tackle! F & F tried again to attack but as Cole won the ball he found Alec, he took a touch and moved forwards finding Shaan running through on goal and boom a great finish past the keeper GOAL!!!!!! A couple more changes were made and with just a couple of minutes remaining in the game Mason took a goal kick to Jake in the left back position who advanced forward with the ball before finding Isaac down the wing, his first touch allowing him to turn and run toward the F & F goal with a movement we’d been working on in training great feet Isaac! He advanced and passed inside to Shaan who fired at goal and his shot went in off the goalkeepers legs GOAL!!!!! Not long after saw the final whistle blew to bring to an end a great game from both teams, Oadby defended superbly limiting F & F to any real chances at goal while their own passing, teamwork and attacking prowess shown through. A great game from the boys saw the man of the match awarded to Cole for his attacking drive, quicker tempo of play and his general great work rate today!

Player of the Day: Cole

Goals Scorers: Cole (2), Shaan (2), Mason & Charlie

Groby Juniors Spartans V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 9th February 2014

Well after weeks and weeks of wash outs we managed to reverse the fixture to play away to Groby Juniors Spartans and play on the astro-turf pitch. The rain held off which was great but, the four winds did blow all in one direction across the pitch making the conditions very hard for our passing style. With a depleted squad as Shaan was unavailable the remaining six pulled on their base layers and tracksuit bottoms to battle the elements. Both teams started the game brightly with some good work in midfield limiting Groby to a long range shot early on that flew by for a goal kick. Mason took the goal kick and passed out to Jake who dribbled up field in a determined mood passing onto Isaac who held the ball up superbly before finding Alec in the middle of the pitch, he released a goal bound shot that was deflected wide for a corner kick. Cole stepped up to whip the corner in, it rebounded off a defender and into Jake’s path as he hit a first time drive towards the bottom left corner only for a defender to stand tall and block the shot. Another attacking wave from Oadby again saw Jake with a chance at goal and he looked like he’d broke the deadlock only for a Groby defender to stick a toe out and push the ball round the post. As Groby attempted another attack Oadby showed great defensive work with Cole and Alec closing down their midfielders quickly and the ball fell to Jake who raced forward and beat 1 player, then another leaving him 1 on 1 with the Groby keeper and BOOM he clinically finished the ball into the back of the net! Groby took this on the chin and again pushed forward but for the Oadby team to stand strong and with a great tackle from Jake put the ball out for a Groby throw, they quickly picked the ball up and took the throw into the strikers feet as he raced through on goal only for Mason to be big and brave as he dropped to his knees and palmed the ball away to safety great save Mason! Next up to shine was Isaac showing again his great footwork and dribbling skills as he attacked down the right hand wing taking on the first defender with an outrageous nutmeg, all aboard the show boat! As the end of the first 10 minutes was approaching Oadby again forced a corner, Cole again took charge and drilled in a low cross to Charlie’s feet, he turned and placed a superb shot into the bottom left hand corner with a clinical finish!

The second quarter saw both teams being blown across the pitch again, Groby managed to force a throw in down their right wing. The player threw the ball into the box and Jake was like a leaping gazelle as he jumped to win a great defensive header! Groby again attacked down the right wing and managed to drill a good cross into the box only for Cole to pull out a great diving rolling save and emerge with the ball tucked safely into his chest, great save! Oadby attacked from this and the ball found its way to Isaac who had an amazing first touch and finished it off with a great pass out to Charlie who the Groby defenders pounced on before he could get a shot away, the ball fell to Isaac again and just as he was about to pull the trigger the defenders blocked his attempt, a great team move! Groby again tried to attack but Alec held firm in defence with some great positional play!

The 3rd quarter was barely 10 seconds old as Jake managed to dribble by his marker and find the back of the net for his second goal of the game. Oadby we playing the ball around well now having adapted to the winds and the playing surface but Groby were stubborn in defence working hard to break down the attacks. Groby managed to break away down the left wing and a nice pass inside saw the attacker with a free shot at goal, Charlie raced out and managed to save the shot with his elbow even though he was facing the other way, Mason raced onto the loose ball and cleared to safety. Groby grew in confidence and again built up an attack only for Mason to again snuff it out and break himself down the left wing before passing onto Isaac who dribbled forwards and found Cole, he hit the shot first time with his left foot only for it to whistle by the left hand post and out for a goal kick. Oadby again attacked this time it was Jake who beat his man and managed to find the back of the net for his 3rd goal earning his hat-trick. Oadby pushed on again as Cole broke down the left wing and played a good pass into the box but no one could quite reach the ball as it went out for a goal kick. The remainder of the quarter saw attacks from both sides cancelled out in midfield with some good defensive play.

The last quarter could not come quicker for the parents as the icy wind cut across their backs but both teams still had more to give. They both attacked and it was Oadby who managed to get the first goal as Isaac pulled off a great save and rolled the ball out to Charlie who dribbled the ball ¾ of the pitch before finding Jake with a great pass, he slotted the ball past the goalkeeper for his 4th of the day! Great direct play that we’d been working on in training, well done boys! Groby again pushed hard and managed to get a shot on goal which Isaac done well to get his hands to but the shot had too much power and just crossed the goal line before he could get it out, great effort Isaac! The game shortly finished as hypothermia was just setting in for the watching few that braved the winds. The team huddled together and had a quick debrief, the man of the match was awarded to Jake for a great game today, he covered the whole of the pitch and managed to grab 4 goals, great performance Jake!

Oadby Owls Tawnys V Aylestone Park - 19th January 2014

After a 5 week break over Christmas the boys were eager to get back into action with this friendly match against Aylestone Park and with it welcoming Louie to his first time back to Coombe Park. The boys were taken aback by Aylestone Park’s early pressure and it didn’t take long for the first goal of the game as Louie after a strong tackle from Jake managed to stay on his feet and place the ball past the Oadby keeper. Oadby were on the back foot for the first 5 minutes and Aylestone took advantage as again Louie found himself bearing down on goal before a cool finish. Oadby made a substitution and Cole was introduced to the game and immediately picked up the ball on the right hand side of the pitch and set about a mazy dribble past 2 Aylestone defenders before firing a shot wide of the left hand post. This injected confidence into the Oadby team and again they were on the attack as Jake won the ball superbly in midfield before finding Isaac in the centre of the box, his shot looked a certain goal only for the Aylestone keeper to parry the ball into Cole’s direction who steadied himself and fired another goal bound shot only for the keeper to turn his effort around the post for a corner. The resulting corning ended with an effort going out for a goal kick from which Aylestone managed to break through the Oadby team and you guessed it Louie grabbed his 3rd of the game after a good spell of pressure from the growing in confidence Tawnys. Oadby set the pace straight from the restart as Cole began a great dribble as he took on 1 player then another who brought him down for a free kick. A few seconds later and the ref’s whistle brought an end to the first 10 minutes.

With a few changes the 2nd quarter got underway and this time the Oadby team attacked from the whistle led by Alec who controlled the ball, turned his marker superbly and found Shaan with a great pass, Shaan ran through on goal only for the Aylestone keeper to again save the shot. Aylestone tried to get into the Oadby half but Mason was in a determined mood and made two great tackles to halt the attack. Shaan again found himself running through one on one with the keeper after some lovely dribbling, only for him to pull off another great save, he was looking unbeatable! The next wave of attack saw Cole pick the ball up inside his own half and again drive at the Aylestone team dribbling by the midfielder and down the left wing, he whipped a cross into Shaan’s feet, he was closed down quickly and laid the ball sideways to Alec who fired a shot just wide of the post. Aylestone again tried to attack but this time it was Jake who stood in their way as he won the ball with a great tackle which started another Oadby attack, ending with Cole firing a first time left foot shot at the keeper who again pulled off a great save. Again Aylestone tried to reach the Oadby goal and the striker found himself running alongside Mason for the ball, Mason done superb to stay on his feet and hustled the ball from the Aylestone player before finding his team mates feet cultured play! Another Oadby attack saw Shaan down the wing as he crossed infield and found Alec who beat his man and played the ball to Cole, he set himself and shot at goal only for the keeper to pull off another save! Oadby quickly won the ball back from the goal kick and as Cole broke into their half he was brought down for a free kick which Mason took, he fired his shot just wide of the left hand post with a sweetly struck shot! Oadby again attacked as Cole again went on a mazy dribble only to be snuffed out by 2 defenders. Against all the Oadby pressure Aylestone broke into the Oadby penalty area and scored with a strike going in off the post, but the Oadby boys kept fighting as Shaan showed some lovely skills on a dribble of his own and Alec was strong and focused with some great defensive work. They got their reward for a great 10 minutes work as Shaan picked up the ball just inside the Aylestone half and dribbled goal bound before finishing into the top right corner to evade the impressive Aylestone keeper.

The 3rd quarter turned into a midfield battle with few chances falling to either side, Aylestone managed to find their way down the left wing and into the penalty area only for Alec playing in goal to make a great tackle then jump back up in time to make a good save from the rebound. Jake won the ball in midfield with a solid well timed tackle that is quickly becoming his trademark quality, he turned towards the Aylestone goal and found Charlie who managed to squeeze a shot at goal only for the inform keeper to save again. Midway through Isaac found himself drilling a cross into the area and Charlie had his shot blocked and put the rebound agonisingly wide of the post. The rest of the quarter saw Alec, Jake and Shaan breaking down any attacks that were coming our way.

The 4th quarter again saw changes in the Oadby team and they found themselves under early pressure as Charlie raced out of his goal and made a great tackle before having the awareness to get back to his feet to make a good save from the resulting rebound. Alec picked up the ball in midfield and took the game to Aylestone as he skilfully dribbled past two onrushing players before finding a team mate with a pass, superb play! Aylestone this time broke away and Louie hit a shot that struck the post before rebounding back off of the Oadby keeper and into the goal with the cruellest of luck. Cole then broke down the left wing, beat his man and whipped in a cross to Mason who hit a superb first time shot that the keeper managed to get his body behind and save. Aylestone again attacked and over hit a pass that Charlie intelligently controlled and dribbled back into his area before picking the ball up! Aylestone again broke and fired a shot goal bound but for a superb save from Charlie who palmed the ball away as Mason muscled in and cleared the ball to safety. Aylestone again attacked and after a brief spell of pressure it was Louie again who grabbed a goal for the away team. Oadby attacked again from the resulting kick off and the ball found Cole who again beat his man before crossing into the penalty area where Mason released a first time drive at the top right corner and Boom the net bulged! The boys again won the ball back with a great tackle from Alec who passed the ball to Shaan, he showed great awareness to find Cole racing into the penalty area, his first time shot was again well saved by the Aylestone keeper. Aylestone tried another attack but Mason won the ball well and found himself facing towards his own goal, he played a simple pass back to Charlie who had time to take a touch and pass to another Oadby player, great play Mason! Aylestone pushed forward again towards the end of the game and managed to find the back of the net again with a tidy finish. The game had one more attack and it fell to Aylestone who found themselves one on one with Charlie who saved superbly to cap a wonderful performance in goal!

The boys enjoyed a penalty shootout and gathered around for the team debrief, although the score line didn’t favour us the performance from all the boys was superb and again showed the never give up attitude that these boys have. We have made a superb start to our debut season and I’m sure this will only make these boys more determined to learn from every game and continue to grow into the game of football. The man of the match was a tough choice today and went to Alec for his tireless work ethic and superb tackle and dribbling! Well done boys on a really great performance!

Oadby Owls Tawnys V Netherhall Diamonds - 8th December 2013

Today saw the eagerly anticipated rematch with Netherhall Diamonds this time at the fortress that is Coombe Park! The boys were there nice and early and got straight into the warm up done in front of the home crowd to get them fired up for today’s game. The game kicked off and within no time at all Isaac was closing down the opposition challenging for the ball with 2 superb sliding tackles. It wasn’t long before Oadby got there first glimpse at goal as Jake produced a cracking tackle in his own half before finding Isaac who turned and passed a glorious through ball to Shaan who found himself bearing down on goal only for the ball to go agonisingly wide of the right hand post. Netherhall then threatened the defensive line as they broke away with the striker one on one with Jake who again put in a crunching well timed tackle to halt the attack! It was Oadby’s turn to attack again as Alec won the ball in midfield and showed good footwork and composure to find Isaac in the box who placed the ball under the goalkeeper and into the bottom left hand corner as the crowd cheered GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL! Oadby again picked up the ball quickly from the restart and before the crowd could settle Shaan was racing through on goal only for the keeper to deny him with a great save. Then came the team move of the season so far with all outfield players being involved in the build-up as Jake again halted an attack with a great tackle before finding Alec in midfield. Alec turned with the ball and dribbled forward before playing a lovely pass into Shaan who was free and running at goal, BOOM he released a strong shot that the keeper managed to block and parry into Isaac’s magic feet who delightfully lobbed the ball over the stranded keeper and into the roof of the net GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL! The referees whistle soon blew to end the first 10 minutes and what a start Oadby had made.

With a few substitutions made by both teams Netherhall came out fast and kept Oadby on their toes right from the whistle. Netherhall forced a corner on the left hand side and drilled a venomous corner into the near post which rebounded off an Oadby player and into the net which gave Netherhall an instant lift! This again brought out the team spirit and determination that these 7 boys have as Oadby battled back and forced their way down the left wing, Cole beat his man and fired a ferocious left footed drive which rebounded back off of the left hand post! Again Netherhall attacked and forced another corner, this time Jake in goal was ready and waiting as he pushed the ball away from the near post which started a quick break way that ended with Cole down the left wing before some good defensive play saw him stopped in his tracks. Two more Netherhall corners came but Oadby stood firm and defended superbly and as the second quarter headed to a finish Oadby had a chance as some good passing saw Mason running through at the keeper who managed to block the shot with his legs and the ball fell nicely for the defender to clear.

The third quarter again saw substitutions from both sides and became a real midfield battle with few goal scoring chances falling to either side. Oadby’s defending had been outstanding so far and the boys continued this as we limited Netherhall to shooting from distance, Cruz picked the ball up just inside the Oadby half and pushed forward before unleashing a thunderous strike from 25 yards that hit the left hand post and rebounded out of danger. Alec was strong and composed in defence sweeping up any danger that was heading our way. Oadby had an attack halted unfairly and the referee awarded a free kick in the centre of the pitch 25 yards from goal. Shaan fancied his chances and hit a great drive goal bound but a deflection off the last defender put the ball out for an Oadby corner. The quarter finished as it started as both teams continued to cancel out each other’s attempted attacks.

The fourth quarter again saw changes and as the crowd know these 7 Oadby boys continue to push the opposition for the whole game and they could feel a goal coming as Oadby pushed on from a throw in on the left hand side (see above photo). Oadby attacked and forced a corner on the left hand side of the pitch, Mason placed the ball down too close to the flag and Danny was like Usain Bolt sprinting round to help him position the ball better and what a good job he did as Mason drilled the corner into the box like an arrow, Charlie was hovering around the centre of the goal and managed to pass the ball into the back of the net GOAL! The game continued and Netherhall attacked, Jake picked up the ball in the Oadby defence and decided to dribble past the striker and a midfielder before finding a team mate with a great pass, Jake was playing like a Brazilian centre back! Jake again found himself on the ball and this time found Charlie with plenty of time and space, he turned and fired a low shot past the on rushing keeper and into the net GOAL! Netherhall came forward as again their main man Cruz fired a shot goal bound but for Shaan showing some great hands in the Oadby goal. Then an individual run that rivalled the team move in the first quarter as Jake-dinho the Brazilian (number 8) picked up the ball in his own half before dribbling past the entire Netherhall team and drilled the ball past the goalkeeper giving him no chance at all GOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!! (see photo below) Netherhall didn’t give in and attacked Oadby again this time forcing their way into the penalty area only for Shaan to throw himself on the ball and deny them a chance at goal with some brave goalkeeping taking a knock to the head in the process! Oadby though were hungry for more goals as Cole received a pass on the left hand side before he cut inside leaving his marker standing as he whistle a shot goal bound but for a superb save from the Netherhall keeper. Netherhall pushed forward again and managed to win another corner. This prompted Suky to nervously declare their previous corner had been VICIOUS and warned the Oadby defence to be on their toes, and that they were and they cleared the ball away from danger. Not long after came the final whistle and a cheers from the home crowd, the players shook hands and got ready for a fun penalty shootout.

Again all that was left was the team debrief in front of the ever growing crowd and the announcement of the player of the day. Again it was a difficult choice as the whole team work so hard and support each other all over the pitch, the winner has set himself such a high standard as every week he’s been a contender for this award and he had a beaming smile on his face as Jake was presented with the trophy! Well done boys on a superb start to the season which still see’s us unbeaten and improving week in week out. Enjoy your Christmas break!!

Oadby Owls Tawnys V AFC Barwell - 1st December 2013

This week saw the visit of AFC Barwell to test the unbeaten Tawnys who were without Jake due to illness. The game kicked off with both teams holding firm in midfield as Oadby began to take a foot hold in the game. Isaac came into the game after the first 5 minutes and made an immediate impact with his magic feet as he danced around two Barwell defenders before firing just wide of the left hand post. This really got the boys fired up and from the goal kick Mason closed down the defender quickly and nicked the ball before shooting high into the goal BOOM! (see photo) Barwell pushed hard from the restart and some good attacking play earned them a corner. They fizzed the ball across the penalty box, Isaac intercepted the ball and dribbled out 10 yards before unleashing a sizzling 20 yard forward pass straight into Mason’s forward run which found him 1 on 1 with the Barwell goalkeeper who managed to save the first effort but could only parry the ball back to Mason who tucked away the second attempt into the bottom left corner! Barwell again pushed forward this time down the left wing and put a great cross into the box witch Charlie did well to push out for a corner kick. Again Oadby defended well and came out with the ball and again we found Mason racing through for his hat trick but it was not to be yet as the keeper pulled off a great save to deny him. Again Oadby attacked this time with Isaac finding himself with a goal scoring opportunity only for the goalkeeper to again push the ball away from danger, the ref blew for the end to an exciting first 10 minutes.

The next period started with an Oadby kick off and straight from the centre we pulled off a great 6 pass super move involving 3 of the 4 outfield players much to the pleasure of Matt and Danny watching with huge smiles from the side lines! Then Cole picked up the ball on the right wing and drove towards the heart of the Barwell defence before sliding the ball into the grateful Shaan’s feet, who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner giving the keeper no chance! Again Oadby attacked this time the ball heading towards Charlie with his back to goal and he took a magical first touch which allowed him to turn and get an early shot at goal only for the goalkeeper to pull off a great save to deny him this time. Oadby continued to push forward and this time Isaac managed to find Shaan in space and as the defender tried to push him wide he found the back of the net from a near impossible angle BOOM! (see picture) Barwell pushed forward looking for a way back into the game and were only denied by a fantastic save by Mason who managed to get his fingertips to the ball and tip it onto the post! Barwell were not to give up that easy though and managed to break away and beat the last man before calmly finishing into the bottom left corner. Oadby took it in their stride and pushed forward again this time Shaan was looking to return the favour as he fed Cole the ball and he finished high into the centre of the goal! Cole full of confidence from his goal moments earlier was driving towards the goal again and hit a superb low shot that the defender managed to block only for the rebound to fall to the grateful feet of Charlie who placed his shot into the bottom left corner leaving the keeper no chance!

Charlie started the 3rd quarter where he left off and found himself with a shot at goal from the left hand side of the penalty area, his shot fizzed past the goalkeeper only to bounce back off the left hand post and the defenders managed to clear the ball to safety. Alec found himself being tracked across the pitch with no one on offer for a pass and he managed to lose his marker after turning him inside out with 3 amazing pieces of skill before releasing the ball to his team mate, great skills! With little Isaac taking his turn between the sticks Barwell might have fancied their chances and had a low drive from 15 yards kept out thanks to a fantastic low diving save to his left denying the Barwell striker. Oadby attacked again this time with Shaan’s shot being deflected into the path of Cole who tucked the ball away for his second of the game! Oadby pushed on strong again this time Charlie found himself bearing down on goal and unleashed a powerful shot that the keeper managed to get a hand to but the shot had too much power and the ball hit the back of the net! Again Barwell pushed forward and attacked down the right wing before crossing into the box, Isaac raced off his line and tackled the striker with his feet winning the ball and clearing to safety. Again Oadby pushed forward this time Cole again found himself through on goal with the chance of his hat trick and BOOM he slammed the ball into the back of the net! The 3rd quarter was coming to an end when Cole again broke through before finding Charlie 10 yards from goal and BOOM he found the back of the net to grab himself a well deserved hat trick as well!

The last quarter saw Barwell again trying to push forward and with some great play down the left wing they fed the ball inside to the striker who raced towards the goal only for Cole to throw himself at the striker’s feet and claim the ball superbly! The game again became a bit of a midfield battle with each team trying to cancel each other out until Mason picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and ran at the defence before playing an accidental one two with Isaac he slotted the ball beyond the keeper to grab himself a hat trick too! A hat trick of hat tricks! Both teams battled hard to keep possession and as Isaac picked up the ball he managed to go on a mazy run towards the Barwell goal before being halted just as he was about to pull the trigger. The game finished with Charlie racing through on goal but unfortunately his shot fizzed just wide of the left hand post. The ref called an end to the game and it was handshakes all round before a friendly penalty shootout! All that was left was the team debrief in front of the proud parents and the player of the day award going to Charlie this week for his all round play in today’s game, especially having taken on board advice from previous weeks and putting that into action today. Again a great performance from the whole team!

Oadby Owls Tawnys V Blaby & Whetstone Musketeers - 24th November 2013

Next up for the Tawnys was the visit of Blaby & Whetstone Musketeers, with Charlie missing from the match day squad it was up to the remaining six to entertain the ever growing crowd! Blaby & Whetstone didn’t waste any time as they flew out of the blocks and straight down the left wing before a great cross into the box was finished by their striker with a great team goal within the first minute! This shocked the Tawnys into life and they settled into the game immediately from the restart passing the ball wonderfully which is now second nature to this ever improving team, some great holding play from Alec in midfield and Jake in defence halted Blaby’s attempted attacks. Oadby countered from a great defensive tackle by Jake who kept his composure and found Cole with a great forward pass, Cole danced by the two on coming Blaby defenders before finishing high into the goal BOOM! (See picture) This was followed by his trademark celebration and showed the determination this talented group have to work for each other. Oadby broke again down the right hand side which saw Cole cut inside and unleash a low drive which flew just past the left hand post. Oadby were on the front foot now and attacking at will, Alec found himself with a great chance 15 yards from goal and released a fantastic drive that the goalkeeper done well to keep out. Oadby continued to pressure the Blaby team and as Jake hit a thunderous drive from 20 yards a Blaby defender handled the ball on its way into the net and a penalty was awarded. Not to miss his chance of scoring Jake placed the ball on the spot and stepped back……………… BOOM! A great finish into the top left hand corner! The remainder of the first 10 minutes was spent in midfield with both teams doing well to counter each attempted attack.

The second 10 minutes was again a great show by both teams with Blaby attacking well down the right wing and putting a great cross into the box which Jake picked up superbly before releasing Shaan to start a counter attack. Oadby had a few good chances with Isaac playing as striker holding the ball up and feeding Shaan and Mason’s forward runs but for the Blaby defence to stay strong to deny the Oadby attacks (see photo). Blaby again attacked this time through the middle but with Alec in a stubborn mood he not letting anyone past and Blaby were restricted to a shot from distance which fizzed through to “safe hands Jake” that again caught the ball cleanly before setting another Oadby attack on its way, the second period came to an end.

After a quick half time chat with the boys they came out in the same manner matching Blaby all over the pitch. This period saw Shaan in the heart of the defence and he’d take on the baton from Alec and was determined to give nothing away! With Cole, Jake and Mason being the attacking trio they were a constant threat to the Blaby defence who stood firm and put in a couple of crunching tackles to hold back the attacks. Blaby were not to be outshone though as they broke away a couple of times only to be stopped by some fantastic save’s from Alec between the posts! Again the third quarter became a midfield battle with both teams doing well to cancel each other out.

The final ten minutes saw Oadby take early control in the game as Jake found Cole racing through past the last defender who had done superb to push Cole out wide only for him to unleash a low left foot drive that rattled the post before going out for a goal kick. Oadby kept Blaby on the back foot as Cole broke down the left wing and cut inside of two defenders before hitting another goal bound drive only to be stopped by a great save from the Blaby keeper who parried it away only for Isaac to pop up unmarked and pass the ball into the empty net! Blaby replied by attacking with a great surging run down the left wing only for Mason to take the ball off of the winger and find Jake just inside the  Blaby half who played a superb cross field ball to the waiting Isaac who finished first time past the Blaby keeper followed by his knee slide and fist pump!! Blaby continued to push the Oadby back line and got their reward as the striker raced through with Mason hot on his tail only for the Blaby youngster to calmly slot the ball by the out rushing Shaan into the corner of the goal. With both teams pushing hard the final whistle sounded to end a very entertaining game, a fun penalty shoot-out was had by all with the highlight being Alec losing his boot as his penalty rifled into the goal! The team debrief focused on the great passing and solid tackles by the team before the man of the match was awarded. In a tough decision it was awarded to Cole for great attacking play and dribbling that constantly terrorised the Blaby defence! Again a great team performance!!

Oadby Owls Tawnys V Fleckney Athletic Tigers - 10th November 2013

The second home game of the season was set on a sunny winter’s morning and with the Tawnys tribe getting to the ground early to cheer the Snowys on they had plenty of time to get ready for the game. We didn’t realise how well they had prepared as before we could even blink Charlie popped up with a well taken finish past the on rushing goalkeeper. The Tawnys really pushed hard for the first 10 minute quarter and were well rewarded as Isaac chipped in with two great assists following some fantastic footwork which has seen him labelled Mini Messi! Charlie was in dreamland as he was the lucky recipient on both occasions – a hat trick within the first quarter, what a start! Fleckney showed some good defensive work throughout the first 10 minutes to keep the score down.

After a couple of changes the Tawnys picked up where they left off, this time it was Shaan slotting the ball home with great composure by the Fleckney goalkeeper. Fleckney stayed stubborn in defence thwarting a few chances before Fleckney managed to break into the Tawnys half and pushed hard to get into the penalty area only for some great defensive work from Alec and Mason teaming up to halt the break away in the corner of the field, Mason dribbled out from the corner and sprayed the ball down the right hand wing finding Shaan and Cole unopposed racing towards the Fleckney goalkeeper! Shaan was first onto the ball and managed to power home his second goal of the game. Fleckney tried to break again but again some strong defensive play as the Tawnys team won back the ball and went straight back down the field and forced a corner on the right hand side of the goal. Mason drilled a lovely pass straight to Shaan’s waiting right foot in the centre of the goal and BOOM! he powered home for his hat trick. What a performance the Tawnys were putting on!

The third quarter got underway with some tactical changes made by the management team to concentrate on our short sharp passing style we have made our own! The Tawnys started brightly again this time Jake finding the back of the net with a great finish into the bottom corner! The Fleckney defence were up against a rampant Tawnys team as they played the ball around the pitch only for Isaac to find himself inside the penalty area and Boom his shot finds the back of the net with a lovely placed finish (see photo). Alec was the chosen striker for this quarter and as the ball was played through the middle, he took a great first touch, steadied himself and finished into the bottom left hand corner going in off of the post, what a clinical finish! Fleckney tried to break away but this Tawnys team were giving nothing away and again they found themselves with a goal scoring chance and Jake took his finish calmly into the left hand side of the goal and wheeled away in celebration (see picture). As the 3rd quarter neared the end the Tawnys again managed to find the net, this time Isaac grabbed his second goal of the game beating two defenders and the goalkeeper with a great finish into the bottom right hand corner of the goal before sprinting back towards the crowd and doing his knee slide celebration!

The fourth quarter began and Fleckney kept their heads and work rate up as they started brightly pushing forward and being willed on by the whole crowd! Unfortunately for them the Tawnys defence was staying firm and held back any advances towards the Oadby goal. Oadby attacked again with great passing and movement throughout the team, Charlie was playing like a Brazilian central defender finding himself dribbling and making runs into the opposition’s penalty area! Fleckney were determined to hold off all of the Tawnys attacks and defended well as Oadby put a few shots off target and the goalkeeper making a couple of great saves! The game drew to a close with the Tawnys players giving three cheers to Fleckney! All that was left was the team debrief and the award of the player of the day, this was a close call between a number of players but with the combination of great dribbling, passing and finishing skills the award was given to Isaac! The whole team played superbly and thoroughly deserved the result for some great work over the start of their debut season! Well done all!

Player of the Day: Isaac

Oadby Owls Tawnys V Blaby & Whetstone - 27th October 2013

The eagerly awaited first home game was contested in tricky conditions as a near on gale force wind ripped across the pitch. Both teams started well with a few early chances falling to Blaby only for the on rushing goal keeper Charlie acting as a sweeper clearing up any through balls. Oadby had a few chances without finding the target and the first 10 minutes ended. The second 10 minutes got under way and was very much the same as the first with both teams playing some nice football, Oadby managed to break the dead lock as Cole broke with the ball taking on the defender and slotting the ball passed the Blaby keeper and into the net, followed by a display of his gymnastic skills as he arab springed into a back flip drawing gasps from the on looking crowd! Blaby broke away and had a great chance to score only to be thwarted by an excellent narrowing of the angle and save from Alec between the posts.

The 3rd quarter got under way with Blaby pushing hard for a goal and Oadby hit them on the counter attack and the ball was played to Mason who scored with a tremendous finish into the top left corner and he was not to be out done in the celebration stakes as he threw himself into a perfect forward roll followed by the fist pump into the air!  Blaby continued to play well and they were duly rewarded with a fine finish after some strong dribbling from midfield. With good play coming from both sides and some great defending and distribution again from Mason Oadby held firm until the referee call for the end of quarter 3. Upon the restart both teams were evenly matched and took the game to each other, Blaby rattled the post twice in quick succession and eventually got their reward with a delightful lob over the stranded Oadby keeper. With Blaby pushing on with the momentum from their goal they struck the upright again before the end of the game. An evenly fought battle from both teams supported superbly by all.

Netherhall Diamonds V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 13th October 2013

The second league appointed friendly saw Oadby (Nomad) Owls Tawnys yet again on the away team coach, although this time a little closer to home visiting Netherhall Diamonds. The weather was not as kind as previous weeks with a bit of light rain in the air. Netherhall’s manager had made sure he’s sorted the kids out by setting up shelter in the form of a gazebo, what he didn’t count on was the invasion of the Oadby Wags who soon tried to lay claim to the cover. Unfortunately it was players only and the game got under way with Netherhall taking the game to Oadby from the off with some good passing  and powerful shooting. Oadby withstood the early onslaught but then with a great strike from out on the left wing just inside the Oadby half the winger hit a fizzing shot straight over our goalkeeper and into the net. This was the wakeup call that Oadby needed and we once again rose to the occasion with Shaan dribbling though midfield and around the llast man before cooly slotting the ball past the on rushing Netherhall goalkeeper game on! The game was hard fought for the remainder of the 1st quarter with Alec beginning to show a real presence in the game. The 2nd quarter started and with a few tentative attacks from both teams the ball rolled back to the Netherhall midfielder who was in his own half, as he pulled his leg back he struck the ball like an arrow from a bow and the Oadby keeper couldn’t keep it out. This gave Netherhall the confidence to attack Oadby and with some great defending involving a goal line clearance from Jake and some excellent midfield work from Alec Oadby started to get a foothold in the game again and worked a nice move into the Netherhall half only for the referee to slip over in his trainers straight onto his back across the penalty area to big cheers from both sets of supporters! Netherhall once again attacked and took advantage by finishing from close range to put Oadby in a difficult position as the ref called half time.

The 3rd quarter saw Oadby produce some of their determination to work for each over and it started to pay off as they slowly grabbed control of the game. With Shaan, Alec, Cole and Masonplaying some great football it seemed only a matter of time before we found a reply, unfortunately before that happened the referee signalled the end of the 3rd quarter. A quick team talk and change of postions and Oadby came out of the blocks strong only to be matched by the confident Netherhall. With 5 minutes to go Oadby found the break through with a nice pass across the box from Alec who found Cole in space, he took a touch and scored a composed finish past the on rushing defender and goalkeeper. The team work on display from Oadby was brilliant and took Netherhall aback, we forced our way down the left wing and was awarded a free kick. As everyone turned for our now set piece specialist Mason it soon became clear he was standing next to coaches having been rotated round 5 minutes earlier. Cole on a high from the previous goal took charge of the ball and placed it down, I looked at my stop watch and the time was ticking away………. 20 seconds to go. Cole ran up and struck the ball with venom as it rose over the wall and into the far corner of the goal. Queue a 20 yard sprint followed by the knee slide celebration that has now become a regular occurrence throughout our team! The ref blew the final whistle and it was to be the last kick of the game. What determination, perseverance and desire to compete right until the final whistle. Both sets of supporters and managers commented on such a greatly contested game and planned to arrange a future match.

The final say was to comment on the never give up attitude and continual passing style that seems to be inherit within the squad and to award the player of the day trophy to Alec for an outstanding performance.

Player of the Day: Alec

Glen Villa Juniors V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 6th October 2013

With the parents and players wondering if we even had a home ground we travelled away to Glen Villa in Great Glen. With the pitch on a slight slope it was to prove a tricky game.

Oadby boys were slow out of the blocks, talk of jet lag from the long journeys over the previous weeks were rife through the supporters and Glen Villa took full advantage as Oadby gifted them a goal by scoring it for them Oh no! This spurred Glen Villa on who rained down a few more shots at the Oadby goal with one taking a huge deflection off our defender and wrong footing the goalkeeper. The end of the first quarter drew near as the Oadby boys started to find their feet with some nice passing play.

The second quarter was a more even affair with a few chances falling for both teams. Oadby started to take control and passed the ball around like Barcelona with Shaan grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck towards the end of the first half.

The never give in determination completely turned the game on its head in the 3rd quarter as Oadby came races out of the blocks. Shaan again started where he left off by being at the heart of the midfield. Charlie finished a well worked team move as he controlled the ball with his back to goal, turned and tucked the ball into the corner of the goal.

Glen Villa pushed hard but it was Oadby that got the next goal as again some great team passing resulted in Isaac clinically finishing into the Glen Villa goal. This gave Oadby the momentum to push for another goal and it looked promising until Glen Villa stopped our man running through with an untimely tackle resulting in a free kick 15 yards from goal. Full of confidence from last week’s free kick Mason again stepped up to the plate, the crowd drew breath as he swaggered towards the ball and ………………................. BANG another rocket into the roof of the net what a fight back and a minute later saw the 3rd quarter come to a close.

Glen Villa gritted their teeth and came out fighting showing some great play of their own and were unlucky when striking the foot of the post with a long range effort, the game became a midfield battle for the last quarter with good defensive play from both teams snuffing out any potential moves.

The referee blew his whistle for the end of the game and the Oadby boys gave their away fans a thank you with what can only be described as a Red Arrows fly by in perfect formation.

Sileby Town Juniors V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 28th September 2013

Both Oadby Owls Tawnys and the Snowys travelled over to Sileby to play a mini tournament against 2 Sileby Town sides with each game consisting of two 10 minute halves. The first game saw an even first half with both sides trying to forge a clear chance on goal with both teams holding firm in defence. The second half saw Jake come into the game and what an introduction he made grabbing himself 2 goals in the opening 5 minutes, Sileby pegged the Tawnys back by grabbing a well worked goal. Again the determination from Oadby saw Mason burst down the right wing only for the Sileby defending to bring him crashing to ground. Mason picked himself back up, dusted himself down and set himself like Cristiano Ronaldo over the dead ball. Boom! An unstoppable free kick flew by the Sileby goal keeper and into the roof of the net, What a strike! The first game finished shortly after and with the boys exchanging handshakes and grabbing a quick drink it was time to get the now famous tactics board out and run through the team for the next game.

A quick change of pitch and we were away again before the now fully integrated crowd could even line the pitch! What a game they were about to witness as they stood snuggled together with their mugs of tea, no time to drink as Shaan grabbed a great solo goal running from the half way line and slotting by the goalkeeper in the corner of the goal. A stunned Sileby kicked off only for Super Shaan to steal the ball and race through again GOAL! Shaan’s second in the space of a minute shocked Sileby into a response and they fired back with a nice team move finished a few minutes later into the Oadby goal. The second half saw Oadby come out of the blocks as they did in the first half with Shaan grabbing a well-deserved 3rd goal! Oadby were not finished there as Mini Messi Isaac showed great footwork to keep control round the defender and pass into the bottom corner. Again this spurred Sileby on to grab another goal with a well taken finish. It looked as if the game was heading to a finish until once again Shaan picked up the ball and scored his 4th goal of the game. A rapturous applause greeted both sets of players for an entertaining game and the words “FANTABULOUS PERFORMANCE” were heard screaming out in the team debrief by the now sun glasses sporting wags of the Tawnys tribe.

Player of the Day: Game 1 - Jake / Game 2 - Shaan

Goals Scorers: Game 1 - Jake (2) and Mason / Game 2 - Shaan (4) and Isaac

Rugby Town Lion V Oadby Owls Tawnys - 22nd September 2013

The first league appointed friendly saw the Tawnys travel all the way to Rugby Town Lions. What a reception with pitches like bowling greens this suited our passing style of play down to the ground! And what a start in the first 10 minute quarter, the boys settled down quickly and started to play with the passing style they had adopted at the Market Harborough Festival and with Cole grabbing 2 quick goals this was a dream start for the boys! The following 2 quarters consisted of a few chances for each team with both Rugby and Oadby matching each other all over the pitch it looked to be stay this way until the final 10 minutes when the game became more open again with Rugby grabbing a goal it kick started the boys back into control mode and Oadby looked to take the game back to Rugby. Up popped Shaan with a well-timed finish to grab a goal just for Rugby to return the favour and score a well worked team move. With time ticking away it was Oadby who would have the last word when Mason scored a well taken goal with just minutes to play.

Again a great game from the boys supported and cheered on by the ever growing wall of noise from the side line complete with our very own Ant and Dec duo that is Seb and Jackson!

Market Harborough Festival - 8th September 2013

What a day it turned out to be!  With debuts for Charlie, Shaan, Isaac, Alec, Mason, Cole and Jake along with the coaches Matt, Suky and Danny who have been charged with moulding the future of this talented group!

The day consisted of 8 games that lasted 10 minutes apiece, and little did anyone know about the treat that was coming! At times a footballing lesson for the masses watching, from great challenges, mazy dribbles, great passing, amazing finishes to double step overs from the last man of defence Cole with 2 attackers chasing him down he managed to get himself and the team out of a sticky situation to the gasps of the on looking crowd!

From the 8 games we played the boys took it in turns to play in every position, showing great versatility and a willingness to work for each other which in turn led them to find the back of the net an incredible 21 times!! This including Mason and Shaan both grabbing a hat trick each in separate games! But best of all was that every player managed to get on the score sheet which was fully deserved! The boys showed they were just as good defending as attacking with only conceding 4 times throughout the day, what an achievement!!

With how well these boys had gelled together they had the crowd eating out of their hands asking, wondering, dreaming how far can these boys go? They were not the only ones gelling together with the parents and supporters forming a formidable wall of support and applause for great play from all teams involved!

Player of the Day: Every single one of them!

Goals Scorers: Alec, Charlie (2), Isaac (2), Jake (3), Cole (3), Mason (4) and Shaan (6)
