Rugby Town Eagles v Oadby Owls Eagles - 5th April 2014 (Group Game)

A Saturday morning found the Eagles travelling to Rugby for their penultimate league match of the season.

The game started evenly, with Jacob brought into action early gathering the ball with protection from Josh shadowing the advancing striker. The Eagles first attempt on goal came shortly after, when Isaac took a long range shot which the defender tried to clear however Reece closed him down quickly and the ball fell to Ewan who shot wide. The next attack was sublime; Dean played a perfect long ball down the left wing to Ewan who played the ball inside to Isaac who in turn found Charlie on the right wing who let fly with a blistering shot only to be denied by the crossbar.

The game then became more end-to-end with Jacob gathering a ball well at the near post from a corner. His subsequent kick found Isaac who played the ball through to Charlie but his effort was cleared to safety. Reece then chased down a lost cause to force a corner which Ewan whipped in but the keeper gathered it confidently. With Dean and Josh in defence, not much was getting past them! When Josh did venture forward, a Ewan corner found him perfectly but his long range shot was blocked by the defender. The ball then fell to Isaac who hit the ball sweetly but just over the bar.

The half came to a close with both defence’s in control, with Dean making great well-timed tackles and reading the game well, whilst Caiden, Luis and Corey tried to push the Eagles forward but the half ended goalless.

The second half started with Caiden defending well and Luis made a great clearance in midfield before the Eagles made the breakthrough - Ewan took a free kick to Corey who's shot was cleared to the halfway line where Dean gathered the ball and ran through defenders before the ball was put out for a throw in. From the resulting throw in, Corey crossed to Charlie who with the keeper diving at his feet stepped round him and slotted the ball home…GOAL!!!

This spurred the Eagles on and Corey's deft throw in found Josh who shot first time across the goal but the ball ran out for a goal kick. Shortly after Corey took a corner and placed in right in front of goal and with the ball bouncing around Josh shot but unluckily found the keeper who held on to the ball. The Eagles were flying now and Josh played a lovely cross to Isaac but a bobble on the pitch took the ball away from him.

Josh then showed great pace to close down the defender and the ball fell to Corey who passed to Reece but he just couldn’t get the shot away. Reece was running the full length of the pitch and when a long shot went past Jacob, Reece dived in bravely at the near post to clear for a corner – it truly was an amazing piece of determined defending (the resulting corner hit the outside of the post and out for a goal kick)

The Eagles then struck again after Josh took a corner, Isaac headed the ball high into the air which caused confusion as the Eagles closed in as the defender headed the ball past his own keeper; unlucky but good pressure from the Eagles…GOAL!!!

Oadby were now playing well now and Caiden played a lovely pass down the wing to Josh who beat 2 defenders before crossing to Corey but his shot was well blocked by the Rugby defenders. With the match coming to a close, Josh showed good feet to beat the defender, then passed to Corey who's shot was again cleared but only to Caiden who played a lovely 1st time pass back into the box to Reece who's shot was saved well by the keeper low at his post.

A great game against a solid opposition – next up, Cosby Utd Badgers in the final league match of the 2013/14 season.

Oadby Owls Eagles v Hinckley United Reds - 30th March 2014 (Group Game)

Oadby got the match underway with some quick sharp passing resulting in an early shot from Reece which was comfortably saved by the Hinckley keeper. Charlie was alert to quickly intercept a dangerous pass and pushed forward playing the ball to Reece who was quickly surrounded by Hinckley players but lost possession.

Hinckley were attacking looking to take the lead from a corner but Jake pulled off an excellent save pushing the ball out of danger. Oadby were on the back foot being forced to show their defensive skills. Caiden and Charlie were in for a busy afternoon in defence. Luis was tracking back well winning the ball and showing his strength to charge out of his own box and relieve the pressure.

Hinckley were on the attack again this time Corey made a fantastic timed last ditch tackle preventing the striker going through on goal. Hinckley then broke the deadlock after a shot rebounded off the post and followed up before any Oadby players could react, the ball was in the back of the net. Corey was working hard, tracking back making some fantastically time tackles then out of nowhere came a well struck shot from Hinckley which looked certain to hit the back of the net. Fortunately Jake was on top form and produced the save of the match. Luis was then perfectly positioned to clear a shot off the line.

After a heavy period of Hinckley pressure, Dean played the ball down the line to Josh who skipped by defenders and whipped in a beautiful cross to Reece whose shot was bravely blocked by the Hinckley defender.

The Eagles started the 2nd half brighter with Josh looking for the equaliser with a great shot which was pushed round the post for an Oadby corner. Isaac then produced a clever dipping shot only for the keeper to parry the ball and Reece pounced to force the ball over the line…GOAL!!!

Hinckley then broke down the pitch only to be met by Dean who confidently won the ball and raced out of defence playing the ball to Isaac who showed great strength to hold off the opposition – he played the ball to Reece out wide who laid it off to Josh who fired a shot at goal only for the keeper to make another brilliant save.

The Eagles were now looking the stronger but Hinckley were still producing some dangerous attacks keeping Caiden and Dean on their toes, quickly closing down any potential threat. Fantastic team-play (straight off the training pitch) between Charlie, Isaac and Josh with sharp 1 touch passing resulted in another Oadby corner. Ewan curled in a perfect corner which was headed desperately wide of the post by Josh. Then some great tracking back by Ewan and Charlie showed great commitment to win the ball back.

Luis was twisting and turning in the middle of the park to get away from challenges and released the ball to Isaac who switched play beautifully to Ewan. Stretching his legs down the wing, Ewan skipped by several challenges showing pace and determination and was so unlucky when his shot hits the post.

Hinckley attack again only for Isaac to throw himself in front of the ball and make an awesome defensive block. Oadby then broke with Ewan who played the ball into Josh whose shot just went over the bar.

Oadby then commit a foul mid-way in their half and after the whistle had been blown the Hinckley player lets fly with a wonder strike which goes into the top corner. Unfortunately for Hinckley the whistle had already been blown and the free kick was awarded and dealt with by the Eagles.

Minutes later Oadby break forward with Josh 1-on-1 with the keeper and calmly stroked the ball into the back of the net…GOAL!!!

A fantastically entertaining match to watch which could have gone either way with both teams playing some great football. Brilliant to see the team pull together in the second half against a good, strong Hinckley team.

Glen Villa v Oadby Owls Eagles - 16th March 2014 (Group Game)

The Eagles started the game at a high tempo immediately putting the Glen Villa keeper under pressure with a shot from Josh forcing an early save. Villa were finding it difficult to get involved as Isaac and Corey were putting together some great passes across the middle of the park. Villa then had a shot from distance which was bravely blocked by Isaac.

Josh played a fantastic ball down the line to Luis who shown excellent determination to chase down and win a throw in deep in the Villa half which was eventually cleared. Corey then won the ball back and played the ball into Josh who turned the defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot leaving the Villa keeper with no chance…GOAL!!!

The Eagles were now pressing high up the pitch and Corey fired a shot which was fantastically pushed onto the post and out for an Oadby corner. Villa were trying desperately to break but Caiden was on his toes to quickly closing down any danger. Ewan then tested the Villa defence turning the defender inside out before the ball fell to Reece on the edge of the box whose shot was blocked by the arm of the Villa defender. Penalty kick awarded. Ewan then stepped up and blasted the ball into the back of the net…GOAL!!!

Unfortunately seemed wake Villa up, as they began to get into the game forcing Jacob to make a couple of terrific saves. Dean was now being tested at the back as Villa began to press but he covered the back line fantastically as usual safely playing the ball out of potential danger. This then required Luis to track back and show his defensive skills. With Oadby getting deeper & deeper, Charlie picked the ball up and relieved the pressure by breaking through the middle of the park only to be brought down before the whistle for half time.

Villa started the second half the brighter forcing Jacob to make another spectacular save. Oadby looked to have taken their foot off the pedal with Villa desperate to get back into the game. Luis then shown his strength down the left and won a free kick which was struck by Ewan and brilliantly saved by the Villa keeper.

After winning the ball back, there was yet another Oadby free kick. This time it was taken by Josh who perfectly placed it to Ewan who fired just wide of the post. Meanwhile Corey was superb at the back - quickly onto any danger, showing determination and skill to play the ball out. Villa then whipped in a dangerous corner only for Jacob to make a commanding save. More dangerous chances followed and Villa pulled a goal back after their striker pounced on a loose ball in the box.

This fired both teams up but it was Villa who won the ball back and struck again for the equaliser. With the game slipping away Oadby stepped up and started attacking with Josh only to be brought down yet again. End to end football with Josh and Isaac both having late shots saved by the Villa keeper. Shortly afterwards the ref blew for the final whistle.

A very physical match - the Eagles showed great team spirit to remain unbeaten in the league.

Oadby Owls Eagles v Whetstone Pumas - 23rd February 2014 (Group Game)

The game kicked off and Oadby were positive from the off; however with heavy winds it was going to be difficult for both teams. Oadby continued to press and had the bulk of the possession in their attacking half with some strong early tackles coming in from Cory to win back any potential danger. Luis was producing some fantastic link up play with Reece out wide resulting in winning several corners in quick succession. Whetstones first attempt came with a one on one with Jacob in goal, who managed to narrow the angle, but the Whetstone striker calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net, completely against the run of play.

Relentless pressure was then applied to test the Whetstone defence, firstly with a fierce shot from Cory that went just wide of the keepers post. Oadby then won yet another corner which was perfectly placed by Issac into the danger area for Luis to nod the ball into the back of the net for the equaliser…GOAL!!!

The Eagles continued with possession football and were pressing again, chasing all lost balls to force errors, whilst the continual strong winds affecting the game & making the ball carry with extra pace, making it difficult for both teams to produce any clear chances in the final third of the pitch. Suddenly there was some great team play - Reece played the ball to Isaac who played it on to Ewan who then played a quick pass to Josh who raced down the line past several challenges then fired a dangerous ball across the box but no one could get on the end of it. Some fantastic one touch passing from Oadby.

Charlie shimmies and shakes a yard of space in the box but the Whetstone keeper was quick off his line to deny the shot on goal. Dean was showing fantastic pace and determination to prevent Whetstone from scoring with some great last ditch tackles. Ewan was causing countless problems down the left, leaving the defenders in his tracks and forcing the keeper to make several fine saves. Whetstone were still creating chances but were quickly cut out by solid-as-ever Caiden who making some perfectly timed tackles.

Whetstone then had a great opportunity forcing Jake into a brilliant save holding on to the ball and then playing a quick ball out to Reece who lays off to Josh to send a rocket past the helpless keeper…GOAL!!!

Oadby were playing some really controlled passing football but Whetstone were still trying to catch Oadby on the break, only to be denied by Caidan and Charlie who both looked very comfortable on the ball calmly playing the ball out of any danger. Oadby work a couple of one-twos down the right with Luis willing to burst forward at every opportunity causing problems for the defence. The Whetstone keeper played the ball out which was pounced upon by Cory, past 2 defenders and into the back of the net…Goal!!!

Oadby continued to be the stronger of the two with the whole team working hard to stifle any further attacks right up to the final whistle, resulting in a fully deserved win in difficult conditions.

Braunstone Trinity Spartans v Oadby Owls Eagles - 19th January 2014 (Friendly Game)

The first game of the 2014 saw the Eagles travel to Mossdale Meadows to play Braunstone Trinity Spartans.

The Eagles started the game well despite the Christmas break on a very muddy pitch. Dean crisply passed to Corey who found Josh but was met by solid defensive opponent. Shortly after Dean passed to Charlie who found Reece but his eventual shot was saved well by the keeper.

Josh showed some nice footwork to beat 2 defenders before putting a cross in but it went out for a goal kick. The breakthrough came from a Reece throw-in to Josh whose looping shot was parried by the keeper to the feet of Corey who coolly slotted the ball into the net…GOAL!!!

The Eagles were spurred on by this and then Reece subsequently crossed into box to Corey whose first snap-shot was saved by the keeper but it rebounded back nicely for him to slide the ball into the net…GOAL!!!

Whilst it was all action at the Spartans end, Dean meanwhile was on his toes in defence & sprinted across the pitch to show good defensive work and clear the danger. Along with Caiden, who was his normal solid self at the back, they were making it tough for the Spartans to get within shooting distance of goal. Dean then made a great clearance which found Josh who ran down the wing and put in a cross which was put behind for a corner. Reece took it and it almost crept in at the near post before the keeper gathered the ball.

The occasional Spartans attacks were still something to be aware of & Jacob was looking safe in goal despite the muddy penalty area! Reece later found Josh who let fly with a long range shot but straight at the keeper. Josh was again denied after Luis showed good strength to lay the ball off to him and he shot from range again but it didn’t find the desired target.

Luis was showing some good wing play (on the left) and he forced a corner that the keeper safely gathered. Charlie was also busy on the opposite flank (mainly being occupied by the dangerous Spartans no 10) and he showed good strength to gain a throw in which was taken by him but cleared to safety by the opposition defence. Then just as the half-time whistle was about to be blown, Josh and Reece then combined on a quick break to find Luis whose shot hit the post and went out for a goal kick.

The 2nd half started brightly - a quick throw in from Isaac found Josh and he shot low & accurately into left hand corner…GOAL!!!

Corey and Josh linked well again before the ball fell to Isaac whose shot was saved by the impressive Spartans keeper. Corey had a couple more shots at goal before the ball fell to Luis who was unlucky to hit the post. He then made a terrific run down the wing before playing the ball inside for Josh who struck the ball sweetly and sent it towards the top right hand corner only to be denied by a fantastic save from the keeper – truly an amazing save – all the crowd were applauding that one!

The Eagles were now fully on top with Corey hitting the bar, Josh having a shot blocked before Isaac placed the ball low into the net…GOAL!!!

Showing no mercy the Eagles kept going forward with a corner that saw Isaac’s shot blocked and Corey’s shot saved. Caiden in defence was showing great coolness dealing with anything danger that came his way and ensuring that there was to be no late comeback. With the game coming to an end, Corey desperate for his hat-trick, raced into the box but a great tackle denied him, as did the post shortly after with the rebound falling to Luis who shot just wide.

A good solid Eagles performance – still some work to do on the training pitch but an encouraging display all the same. Next week, a league match v Whetstone Pumas.

Player of the Day: Caiden Ross

Glenfield United v Oadby Owls Eagles - 8th December 2013 (Friendly Game)

With the Christmas break fast approaching, the Eagles’ last game of the year found them playing away to Glenfield United.

The Eagles were straight into the game with Luis taking an early shot which deflected for a corner. Shortly after, Reece played a pass to Josh in the box who showed good strength to get the shot away which was saved and rebounded to Luis whose shot agonisingly went wide.

Caiden, solid in defence as always, played a pass to Ewan who crossed & found Luis but shot forced a corner. Reece, Ewan and Luis were involved in a goalmouth scramble with the ball ricocheting everywhere before it finally fell to Josh who struck the ball home…GOAL!!!

Ewan was making good runs down the wing whilst Dean in goal (deputising for Jacob) saved a high shot going into the corner. The Eagles were in attack mode and a quick throw in from Ewan found Isaac who provided a great pass to Reece, but his shot just went wide. The Eagles were now in control - Isaac played a perfect pass to Reece who fired his shot into the top left hand corner of the net…GOAL!!!

Straight from the kick off the Eagles were back on the attack with Ewan making a good run down the wing - his eventual pass into the box found Josh who ran onto it & slotted it home…GOAL!!!

Glenfield tried to get into the game with a free kick which Dean watched over the bar and Luis made a good covering tackle but generally the Eagles were coping well. Corey then showed great strength in defence and played a lovely pass to Ewan down the wing but the ball went out for a goal kick.

Another Eagles attack saw Corey find Ewan in the box whose shot was blocked only to fall to Reece whose shot hit the post. However Reece was not to be denied shortly after, when his shot nestled low in the bottom left hand corner of the…GOAL!!!

The Eagles started the 2nd half brightly with a throw from Corey to Josh who played to ball back to Corey to cross into the box where Isaac was waiting to strike home…GOAL!!!

The Eagles were becoming rampant with Corey and Luis both going close whilst Caiden was solid in defence mopping up any Glenfield forays into the Eagles half. Then Dean intercepted the ball and made a powerful run before being fouled - he took the free kick himself sending the ball into the box which the defender deflected into his own net…GOAL!!!

Dean (having swopped with Reece) was enjoying the game with good interceptions and runs into the box but also helping in defence. Suddenly from a Josh corner, Corey let fly but his shot was turned away for a corner. Isaac then made a lovely turn and run before crossing to Dean who showed good feet but the ball was defended well & cleared away from the Glenfield goal.

With the game coming to a close, Glenfield scored a consolation goal past Reece. Shortly afterwards Reece came out to gather the ball and just like Kasper Schmeichel, waved his team forward!! The last attack of the game found Josh playing the ball to Ewan who made a good run and crossed into the box resulting in a corner but it was cleared to safety.

Time for a well-deserved break & recharge the batteries ready for an exciting 2014!

Football & Fitness Tigers v Oadby Owls Eagles - 1st December 2013 (Friendly Game)

An early start saw the Eagles at Brockington College on a bright sunny day to play Football & Fitness Tigers on their 3G artificial pitch.

Straight from the off, Dean was getting stuck in as usual with some tough tackles and calmly playing the ball out from the back working well with Ewan who went on a run down the left wing leaving the opposition in his tracks. After 10 minutes the Eagles soon adapted to the 3G pitch and were knocking the ball making Football & Fitness Tigers chase the ball down. After the ball fell loose just outside the box Josh pounced and struck the ball home to give the Eagles the advantage…Goal!!!

Having gone a goal up, this opened the flood gates, with the Eagles gaining confidence with every pass while the opposition were finding it difficult to get hold of the ball with Corey combining well with Josh. Corey then took a quick throw in to Isaac striking the ball past the helpless keeper…Goal!!!

Caiden and Dean remained big and strong at the back, quickly cutting out any potential threat; Charlie was working hard as usual, looking to cause the defence problems and more great tackles coming in from Corey. Dean then picked the ball up again from deep in his own half and after flying by tackles, squared the ball to Ewan whose shot went desperately wide of the post. From the goal kick Isaac quickly won the ball back and played in Ewan who unselfishly played the ball into the path of Josh striking home a venomous shot past the keeper. …Goal!!!

Football & Fitness Tigers then broke through the Eagles forcing Reece to produce an outstanding save which looked to be creeping in the bottom left corner but was pushed wide for a corner. Corey then was in the right place to clear off the line only for another shot to be fired back in which was blocked by Isaac who then played the ball down the line to Corey and despite being surrounded did fantastic to get a shot away, which went just wide. With Luis battling down the right to win the ball he played the ball to Josh who spotted the keeper of his line and whipped the ball into the top corner…Goal!!!

With the Eagles now having all the possession Charlie was quickly moving the ball about combining fantastically with Josh who threaded through a perfectly weighted ball to Corey who smashed the ball hard and low leaving the keeper helpless once again…Goal!!!

The Eagles pounced straight from the restart and went on the attack again with Corey running straight through the middle of the pitch showing excellent strength and determination winning yet another corner. Football & Fitness Tigers cleared the ball up the pitch which was picked up by Caiden who struck the ball from at least 25 yards catching the keeper off guard hitting the back of the net…Goal!!!

The second half began pretty much the same as the first ended with the Eagles straight on the attack with Corey getting a shot which flew into the back of the net only to be disallowed due to a dubious hand ball decision. Luis won the ball back with a great tackle then passed to Reece in the middle of the park and played a fantastic through ball to Corey who slotted the ball home…Goal!!!

Next Isaac’s turn with a free kick forcing the keeper to make a magnificent save only for the ball to rebound back to Isaac who unselfishly squares to Reece who then lays it off to Luis to smash the ball into the back of the net…Goal!!!

Caiden took a quick throw down the line to Reece whose shot narrowly misses the far post. The Eagles were still piling on the pressure with Ewan flying down the left wing and was desperately unlucky with his shot hitting the side netting. Football & Fitness Tigers then broke through only to be denied by Dean who was quickly off his line to produce a fine save. With a big kick forward the ball was bouncing around the area and was put into the back of the net by the unlucky defender…Goal!!!

With minutes remaining, Reece had the ball midway in the opposing half which was laid off for Josh to rocket into the back of the net…Goal!!!

Some fantastic passing between Isaac and Corey results in a corner from which Football & Fitness Tigers managed to catch the Eagles on the break to snatch a late consolation goal.

Overall a great team performance – Glenfield Utd next, to hopefully finish the year in style!

Oadby Owls Eagles v St Andrews Corinthians - 17th November 2013 (Group Game)

The final group game for the Eagles of 2013 – the game kicked off & immediately the Eagles showed their intent with some good passing between Dean, Corey & Reece which forced a throw in. This was shortly followed by a corner which Corey took and found Reece at the near post but his shot went just over the bar. Then a nice piece of crisp passing between Corey and Reece before the shot by Reece was turned away for a corner.

It wasn’t all one way traffic though and Caiden & Charlie were showing good defensive work whilst behind them in goal, Jacob was alert when a long range shot came his way. Suddenly Reece battled well in midfield found Corey whose powerful shot found the top of the net…GOAL!!!

Straight from the kick off Jacob again came to the rescue with a great save from a powerful shot by the St Andrews striker. The play shifted quickly to the other end & Isaac had a shot at goal which was valiantly blocked by the St Andrews defence, but the ball fell to Josh who in turn passed to Luis whose shot went over the bar. Meanwhile Dean was leading the defensive line well, which allowed Josh to attack with a pass to Isaac who found Luis but his shot from outside the box went just wide.

Shortly after Josh laid the ball to Isaac whose shot was fumbled by the keeper and the ball fell to Luis who could only find the side netting from outside the box…unlucky! With the half coming to an end the Eagles were caught on the break and Luis had to make a perfectly timed tackle to thwart the opposition once more.

The second half started and the Eagles were caught cold when St Andrews scored an equaliser. The Eagles soon got back up to tempo though with Charlie closing down well to force a goal kick. From a Corey corner, Josh’s shot was deflected for another corner & from this one Corey found Josh whose header went wide. Just afterwards, Josh then had a shot turned round the post by the keeper. As a result Josh took the corner only to find a defender but the ball came straight back to him and he played a lovely flighted cross to Corey who slotted home for his second…GOAL!!!

The Eagles were on the front foot now and when Reece’s free kick was cleared , Dean collected the ball and let fly resulting in yet another a corner. Josh took the corner to near post where Charlie showed good control in the box but unluckily his shot went wide. The game then became more open with the Eagles attacking with Reece, Corey & Luis; whilst at the back Jacob saved well a shot from distance and then kicked well down field to Corey who was tackled resulting in a throw in. Shortly after St Andrews had a free kick which was cleared by Josh to Reece who played the ball through for Corey but the downhill pitch took the ball away from him for a goal kick.

With the game on a knife edge Corey made a good run down the line and found Luis who passed to Isaac and with the ball bouncing around, Luis was robbed of the ball with a crunching tackle. But the Eagles were straight back into it with Josh sprinting down the line before passing to Luis whose precise cross found Corey who fired home for his hat-trick…GOAL!!!

Shortly afterwards the final whistle blew – a great team display & a superb hat-trick from Corey. An away friendly match v Football & Fitness First is next up for the Eagles.

Glen Villa v Oadby Owls Eagles - 10th November 2013  (Friendly Game)

The Eagles got the game under way with Reece immediately looking fired up having missed the previous game producing some brilliant tackles and closing down well. The first chance of the game was created by Josh who forced the Villa keeper to push the ball wide of the post for a corner.

As the Eagles began to dominate possession Josh looped in a cross from wide left which was met by Reece who did fantastic to get his head on the end of it but it whizzed high and wide. Charlie and Caiden looked solid at the back quickly regaining possession and cutting out any Villa attack. Isaac was working his socks off in midfield working well with Josh who hit another fierce shot which looked to be creeping into the corner but was denied by the post. Jacob was called upon and was as vigilant as ever. After a Villa corner was whipped into the box the Eagles failed to clear & the ball somehow ended up in the back of the net having bounced unfortunately off Reece’s shin. This looked to give Villa the confidence putting the Eagles under pressure with Jacob making some top class saves.

Isaac continued working hard in midfield and played through a perfectly weighted through ball to Josh who calmly slotted the ball home in the bottom corner with the Villa keeper helpless…GOAL!!!

Having just scored the equaliser The Eagles were caught napping and found themselves behind again with Villa scoring seconds after the restart.

Isaac then played the ball to Josh who sweetly struck the ball home to make the score level again…GOAL!!!

The Eagles now looked adamant they were going to go on and win the game with Josh working well with Ewan on the left forcing the keeper to make yet another save. It was now Villa who were doing all the chasing as the Eagles were introducing quick one-touch passing making it difficult for the opposition to get near the ball. Having lost the ball Villa looked to make an attack which was quickly dealt with by Dean who produced a fabulous pass to Ewan whose quick feet danced around a couple of tackles then was unlucky to just miss the far post.

The second half began with Dean quickly closing down anyone with the ball; then after winning the ball went on a terrific run combining again with Corey who turned to lay the ball off to Ewan who shot just wide. Villa were awarded a free kick mid-way into the Eagles half which was struck with venom but Jacob was equal to it and produced a magnificent save. Now Josh and Isaac were on the attack with Josh cheekily scooping the ball up and over the Villa defence to Isaac who caught the ball sweetly on the half volley which went inches over the ball. The second half continued with both teams having half chances but this was to be a very evenly matched contest with neither team giving up.

With the full time whistle fast approaching the Eagles were desperate to grab the winner with every Oadby player working tirelessly to win the ball back. With Josh and Isaac combining again the ball was played through which was pounced upon by Charlie who showed great strength to shrug off the defence to poke the ball past the desperate keeper to score what must be the winner…GOAL!!!

With Fergie time now being played, Villa were desperate but Dean was quickly onto any attempt to snatch a late goal. Dean then broke out of defence past 4 Villa players and made a fantastic solo run down the line winning a corner only for the full time whistle to be blown.

A very scrappy hard fought victory and despite not playing their best football of the season the boys shown enough character to dig deep and walk away victorious. Well done boys - next up, the final league match before Christmas v St Andrews.

Cosby Utd Badgers v Oadby Owls Eagles - 3rd November 2013 (Group Game)

A blustery cold autumnal morning welcomed the Eagles to Cosby for this group match.

Both teams started brightly with Ewan making an essential block as he put it out for a corner. The Eagles gained a corner themselves shortly after following a quick throw in from Corey to Josh who despite having 3 defenders around him managed to ensure the ball came off the defender last. Ewan then had a shot shortly after that was charged down and cleared but Dean was on hand in defence to deal with any quick break.

Luis picked up the ball & found Reece in space who crossed into the box to Josh who shot first time but it just went wide. Corey, Luis and Josh had a nice passing move before a good tackle came in to rob them of the ball; the resulting break found Luis putting pressure on the attacker and Ewan assisted by clearing the ball for a throw in. Jacob was soon to be tested in the Eagles goal with a cross safely gathered, followed by a shot which Jacob parried out only for Dean to be on hand to clear the danger. Jacob was then called into action again when a long ball came his way, but he put hut his laces through the ball and out for a throw in!

The Eagles were having to dig in with Dean and Charlie putting in good tackles along with Caiden who played a lovely pass forward but Josh couldn’t quite get on the end of it. The best move of the half came when Ewan’s perfectly timed pass found Josh who played a lovely low cross into the box to Charlie who under pressure from the keeper couldn’t make contact with the ball. Isaac played a short corner to Josh who played the ball into the box and was swiftly cleared downfield only for Caiden to be waiting at the back with good defensive work to clear the danger. Cosby were then awarded a free kick which Josh charged down and managed to get a shot away under strong pressure. Just before the break Charlie played a good pass to Isaac which resulted in a corner but it came to nothing.

The second half started with a swift break from Ewan down the wing whose pinpoint cross found Josh who stroked it home…GOAL!!!

With the weather not improving the Eagles were remaining solid at the back with Dean & Isaac working well together to clear to the flanks. Josh made a great run down the wing and played to ball to Charlie who was tackled and won a throw in. Ewan and Josh look like a good partnership with Ewan playing the ball to Josh who shimmy took him past the midfield and lay the ball off to Isaac resulting in a shot on goal that was saved by the Cosby keeper.

Caiden was standing solid in defence in very difficult playing conditions whilst Reece was making some good runs but was outnumbered in the area. Shortly after, the Eagles were awarded a free kick which Isaac took but was unlucky to be denied by the woodwork. Reece made another determined run forward and then took a corner which the defence tried to clear only for Isaac to charge it down for a goal kick. Then Reece made a run down the wing and played a pass to Isaac but the defence covered it well.

The Eagles were remaining strong & defensively looked comfortable with the few Cosby forays easily dealt with. Equally though, up front the Eagles just couldn’t break through the Cosby defence again. Suddenly, after a quick throw in from Luis to Reece, he showed pace into the box but was again outnumbered with no pass on and the ball was cleared away.

With the game coming to a close Caiden made a good defensive clearance before Cosby were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box which Corey blocked and cleared. Then in the last minute of the game, the Eagles were robbed of victory when the referee awarded what can only be described as a very dubious penalty to Cosby for handball which, despite Jacob’s brave effort, found the back of the net and levelled the scores.

A frustrating day for the Eagles but no point in getting upset over it – chin up lads & let’s focus on the next friendly away to Glen Villa.

Oadby Owls Eagles v Sileby Blues - 20th October 2013 (Friendly Game)

A home friendly this week for the Eagles who were missing one of their star players, Reece, who was away on International duty.

The play started with the Eagles kicking downhill & the Eagles first attack came after Ewan passed to Josh who in turn found Luis who fired at goal but the keeper gathered it. Caiden collected the goal-kick & played a pass down the wing to Josh but with the hill affecting the pace of the ball Josh was unable keep control to put the cross in.

Caiden was then involved again playing a controlled defensive pass to Charlie who was tackled for a throw in. In an end-to-end game, Dean took a quick throw in to Josh who passed to Luis who was tackled but the ball fell to Charlie whose shot forced the corner. The Eagles had plenty of pressure to soak up with Dean making a great last ditched tackle, whilst up front Josh made a fine run but the keeper came to meet him resulting in a corner, which Ewan took well but was cleared by the solid Sileby defence.

Meanwhile Dean was doing some good defensive work under strong pressure & ensuring the dangerous strikers weren’t allowed too much time on the ball. Substitutions duly followed, with both subs quickly involved when Isaac made a run, passed to Corey who found Charlie but his shot was saved by the defiant Sileby keeper. Josh made a strong defensive tackle resulting in a throw in, from which Sileby got a shot away only to be saved low down by the ever-ready Jacob.

A great battle was taking place in midfield - Isaac put in a strong tackle which was followed by a lovely move from the Eagles - Josh tracked back well to win the ball, passed to Charlie whose excellent pass found Corey who sprinted and put a cross in only to be cleared once again by the resolute opposition defence. Sileby were then awarded a free kick but it was cleared as far as Corey who set off again on a strong run and got his shot away but straight at the keeper. The last action of the half came when Sileby’s keeper handled outside the box; Corey’s subsequent free kick hit the post and after a couple of ricochets the ball fell to Isaac who shot and the ball was cleared for a corner.

With the second half taking the same path as the first, Jacob was soon under pressure but coped well and Dean was on hand to clear the danger. Corey made a good run from defence but his pass to Charlie was intercepted only for Caiden to step in and deal with the danger under pressure from the Sileby attackers. Caiden was involved again with a good pass to Ewan who in turn passed to Isaac who shot at goal – again ably gathered by their goalie. With the Eagles coming under strong pressure Dean showed good control and Caiden made some perfectly timed tackles – he really was up for it today!!

Shortly after, a nice run and pass from Corey to Isaac saw the ball played under pressure to Ewan but again the Sileby midfield intercepted the ball. The Eagles were having to soak up some strong attacks now with Dean working hard in defence, Isaac making some crunching tackles and Jacob was forced into action, making a couple of crucial saves. The Eagles were trying to get on top in the game and a throw in from Josh found Corey who played a lovely pass to Luis but his shot drifted just wide. Luis then made a determined run through midfield, riding the challenges and split the defence before playing the ball to Ewan who made a good run but just shot wide.

Pushing for a goal, Josh took a good corner which somehow evaded everyone in the box but Corey recovered the ball and returned a cross to Josh but the Sileby keeper gathered the ball. With the game coming to a close and both teams pushing for a winner, Sileby managed a strike and despite Jacob’s valiant effort, the ball found the back of the net. The Eagles kept going with good passing from Dean and Josh before Ewan’s shot was turned away for the corner which Josh delivered well but was cleared by the Sileby defence as the final whistle blew.

A great entertaining match that really was two evenly matched teams battling it out – perhaps on another day the result may well have been different……next up a league match away to Cosby Utd Badgers.

Oadby Owls Eagles v Aylestone Park '94 - 13th October 2013 (Friendly Game)

A cold, windy and wet day at Coombe Park; conditions really were terrible for the parents!

As the game kicked off, Caiden set the tone by making some good strong early tackles and also used good vision to spring a counter attack with a good pass forward. The defence looked strong with Reece sweeping up well. A good throw in by Charlie to Josh resulted in a powerful shot by Isaac which narrowly went over.

Following a handball by the opposition, Isaac stepped up & smashed home a free kick Steven Gerrard would have been proud of…GOAL!!!

The match restarted & soon Josh was cynically fouled but rose bravely to his feet and immediately put pressure on their defender by closing him down which won us a corner. Charlie seemed to be here, there and everywhere making tackles, winning back possession and getting the ball forward. Aylestone sprang an attack down the Eagles right, but this was expertly cleaned up by Corey and Dean. Moments later a good short ball by Corey played across the edge of the box found Ewan who took one touch then hit a shot which found the back of the net…GOAL!!!

Within a minute Corey had the ball again and once again set up another of his team mates, this time Isaac hit a shot from 15 yards which fizzed past the Aylestone keeper…GOAL!!!

Following substitutions, Luis immediately found himself in the thick of it getting stuck into some tough 50/50 challenges. The Eagles suddenly had to withstand some Aylestone pressure, but Jacob was marshalling his defence well, so any danger was easily snuffed out.

At the start of the 2nd half, the ball broke to an Aylestone striker in the box and as he was about to shoot, Luis made a last ditch tackle to block his shot. Then a quick throw in by Aylestone found their striker in the box and this time Dean was at hand to block his shot. Seconds later, Dean was at the other end of the pitch taking a good free kick which their defence just managed to deflect for a corner. Following the corner, the play went down to the Eagles end and fell kindly to their player who hit a fierce shot which Jacob did well to save, but could do nothing about the rebound.

After the restart, a remarkable run from the halfway line saw Dean dribble right through the opposition defence & slot the ball coolly past the despairing keeper…GOAL!!!

Yet another attack saw Josh beat 2 players and unleash a shot which just missed the target. Luis regained possession in the opponents half and hit a high ball towards goal which the keeper failed to get a hold off and the ball went over the line for another goal to Oadby…GOAL!!!

Josh then found Ewan making a run into the midfield, but was unlucky his shot just missed the goal. A subsequent brilliant cross by Josh found Ewan in the box whose first time shot somehow stayed out but following a goalmouth scramble Josh managed to get his foot to the ball and poke the ball over the line…GOAL!!!

Seconds before the final whistle, Aylestone took a dangerous free kick which was heading towards goal, but was cleared well by Ewan. It was a very good hard fought win by all the team.

Oadby Owls Eagles v AFC Barwell Tigers - 6th October 2013 (Group Game)

The Eagles kick off this friendly and were quickly into their stride with an early goal after Reece had made a good solo run down the wing and blasted the ball home…GOAL!!!

Dean also started the game well with a good run from defence into attack after a good turn at the back. Reece then picked up the ball, ran and shot. However this time the ball unfortunately struck the post. Barwell tried to get into the game with a free kick resulting in a corner which was safely gathered by Jacob.

Corey and Isaac were dealing well with any Barwell pressure and then the Eagles were awarded their own free kick which Isaac stepped up to take and struck the ball home high into the net…GOAL!!!

Shortly afterwards, Reece made another good run before passing to Luis who slotted the ball home gracefully…GOAL!!!

The Eagles were now passing the ball well. Dean found Ewan, whose shot went just wide. Meanwhile Luis was also showing great perseverance in midfield and Corey showed great defensive work. Substitutions were made and Josh was straight into the game with a good run and pass to Ewan whose shot evaded the goal. Charlie took a throw in with precision to the feet of Josh but his shot was saved by the Tigers keeper. Charlie also tested the keeper with a shot, before Reece had a long range effort just over the bar.

Josh, Reece and Charlie were involved in a goal mouth scramble before Dean had a long range shot saved. With the half time whistle just about to be blown, the Eagles got another goal with Josh intercepting the ball and placing the ball in the corner of the net…GOAL!!!

The second half was to be more of the same, with some accurate passing from Josh to Charlie. This was followed by a solid defensive clearance from Reece to Ewan who got his shot away to no avail. Another good pass from Charlie to Reece found him in place to strike the ball home for his 2nd …GOAL!!!

Jacob was rarely being called upon but when he was, he showed a safe pair of hands. The next Eagle attacked found Reece but his shot was parried by the keeper and the follow up from Josh was also dealt with by the plucky keeper. Ewan took a free kick into the box but it flew just over the head of Reece. Meanwhile Caiden was consistently solid at the back with accurate passing and a safety first clearance for a corner. Charlie and Dean then linked up well for a pass to Ewan whose shot resulted in a corner.

A great spell of passing from Reece, Caiden, Ewan & Charlie enabled to ball to find Dean whose eventual powerful shot found its way into the net…GOAL!!!

The Eagles were enjoying this match too much to sit back and another attack culminated with a shot from Josh which was cleared to Ewan who crossed to Charlie whose shot rebounded to Reece whose shot then rebounded back to Charlie but his effort went just wide – it really was great play from the Eagles & thoroughly deserved a goal.

More substitutions took place and Isaac was straight back on it with a long range shot followed shortly by a pass to Corey but his shot was cleared for a corner. Caiden was alert to take a quick throw to Josh but his looping shot went just wide of the goal. Attack was the pattern of play for the Eagles with Josh to Corey to Luis but his shot unluckily sailed over the crossbar. Luis then played a floated cross to Josh who couldn’t get his shot away and the ball was cleared only for Caiden to put in a block tackle.  Charlie made a vital clearance and Corey ran the ball down the wing to safety.

Corey again showed good pressure to win the ball and play Josh in for his 2nd with a strong shot into the net…GOAL!!!

Luis took a quick throw in to Josh whose pass to Corey just wouldn’t sit right for Corey to put his shot in. Luis again played a long pass upfront towards Josh but the quick thinking keeper cleared for a throw in, Caiden was dealing with every situation in defence and also played a good pass to Josh whose 1-2 with Luis very nearly came off. With only 20 seconds of the match remaining Josh whispered to his dad that “I’m going to get my hat-trick” which he duly did after a great precision pass from Isaac - Josh was stationed on the left wing who let fly and the ball flew into the top right corner of the net…GOAL!!!

The match was followed by a very close penalty shoot-out albeit a defeat with Jacob saving 5 of the penalties despite not having much to do in the game showing he was still switched on and ready to react to any danger.

A strong display from the Eagles today & it’s clear that the training sessions are finally beginning to pay off now. Next up a home friendly v Aylestone Park ’94 – yet another stern test that will really be a barometer for how far the team has progressed this season.

Blaby Bulls Bullets v Oadby Owls Eagles - 29th September 2013 (Group Game)

Blaby get the game under way on a bright, sunny afternoon. Within seconds of Blaby taking the kick off, the Eagles pounced with some strong tackles coming in from Reece and Dean, both showing their intentions from the off. It was Blaby who took an early advantage from a free kick which looked too far out to cause any problems but was struck with such venom into the top of the goal.

The Eagles clearly hadn’t arrived yet as Blaby went route-one through the field leaving the striker 1-on-1 with Jacob who was quickly off his line to gather the ball safely. Blaby continued to put pressure on the Eagles defence but Caiden and Josh were standing strong. Still on the back foot Dean made a desperate clearance off the line. The Eagles were trying to get some passes together but with such a small pitch they were finding it difficult with Blaby packing the midfield and forcing more great saves from Jacob. Corey was getting stuck in as usual causing The Bulls midfield problems chasing down every ball and forcing errors.

Within minutes The Eagles found themselves down another goal and an uphill challenge ahead of them if they wanted to get anything from the game. The Eagles finally woke up after 10 minutes and started producing their usual terrific passing starting at the back with Josh and Caiden keeping calm under pressure. Suddenly the ball fell to Reece in the Blaby goal mouth & he needed no encouragement to smash the ball into the back of the net….Goal!!!!!

While the Bulls began to look deflated the Eagles were causing all sorts of problems, with Caiden skipping by tackles looking like a natural centre forward. The Eagles were now forcing sloppy passes with the ball being intercepted by Charlie who read the pass and unselfishly layed the ball off to Reece who slotted home from close range….Goal!!!!!

It was now time for The Eagles to take control of the game with crunching tackles coming in from Isaac and Corey with the ball falling to Ewan who fired the ball at the goal forcing the keeper to produce a great save. Luis took a quick throw in to Charlie who was sprinting down the line resulting in yet another corner for the Eagles. The half time whistle came and ended what was an action-packed first half.

The Eagles got the second half under way with some sublime passing between Dean, Reece & Ewan who passed to Luis whose shot went desperately wide. The match was there for The Eagles to take having all the possession, Dean whipped in a dangerous cross with Luis just short of getting on the end of it. Ewan continued to pile on the pressure with more shots raining down on The Bulls goal. With Reece trying to wriggle through the midfield, he was brought down for a free kick which was struck by Isaac forcing yet another fine save. This was followed by more corners for the Eagles and looked only at matter of time before the equalising goal came. And it came from a corner with the ball loose in the goal mouth Luis pounced and struck home….Goal!!!!!

Josh continued to sweep up any attack from the Bulls and Caiden standing strong with some excellent headed clearances. The match was wide open with the Bulls trying desperately to get back into the game and with Jacob having a quiet second half he was called into action with several top class saves keeping The Eagles on level terms. The match looked like it could go either way with Jacob keeping the scores level and great play down the wings from Ewan linking up with Corey who struck just wide.

A fantastic, action packed game with The Eagles looking the more dangerous but the Bulls forced Jacob into making some superb saves to leave the final score level.

With another important match against AFC Barwell next week, the Eagles have plenty of positives to take out of today’s performance.

Oadby Owls Eagles v Whetstone Pumas - 22nd September (Friendly Game)

On a warm, sunny day at Coombe Park the Eagles (without our normal goalie, Jacob, who was away teaching Joe Hart some hints & tips) started brightly kicking uphill. Josh & Ewan linked up for the first attack with Josh’s eventual shot saved well by the keeper.

After a good tackle by Luis with support from Caiden, Ewan cleared the ball for Josh to run onto and after some good movement and strength he got his shot away, but was denied by the Pumas keeper who made an easy save. Caiden was making good clearances and with good defensive work from Charlie & Luis, the Eagles were looking solid at the back. After a pass from Josh, Ewan showed strength and put in a cross which was turned away for a corner subsequently taken by Corey but the ball was cleared to safety.

The breakthrough came from a corner taken by Ewan to Josh whose shot was parried into the path of Isaac who slotted home….Goal!!!!!!!!!!

In a half of few chances Caiden was showing good defensive work marshalling the Pumas attack and letting the ball run out of play for a goal kick by the first half goalie, Dean. A long pass from Luis tested the Pumas defence which resulted in Josh attempting an overhead kick but the Puma’s defence stood strong. Working well as a team Corey was making fearless blocks, with added pressure from Isaac. Suddenly the ball came to Charlie who played a neat pass to Josh who played in Corey but he struck his shot straight at the Pumas goalie.

Reece, who had come on a sub, was quickly into the game playing some superb passes and making good interceptions, whilst in goal Dean was safe as houses. Corey made a run down the wing and played a nice 1-2 with Josh, then shortly after, Charlie played a lovely pass to Isaac but his shot was blocked. The final attack of the half came after Reece’s pressure in midfield gave Corey room to play a perfectly weighted pass to Josh who showed good movement in the box to shoot but was left frustrated by the resilient Pumas defence.

The Eagles started the second half the way they ended it, with Corey showing good pressure to steal and pass the ball to Josh who was unlucky not to score. And after a quick throw in from Corey to Josh the ball was played to Isaac who from outside the box hit a sweet shot into the top of the net… Goal!!!!!!!!!!

This spurred the Eagles on with Josh crossing to Isaac who shot just wide. Luis (now in goal) made a good clearance into the crowd where Rob, Ewan’s Dad, made a great save & took a bow (he asked us to put that in!!!!!!) Back on the pitch Ewan let fly with a long range shot, and Charlie was making good runs down the wing. The Eagles next goal came from a blistering long range effort from Isaac who gave the keeper no chance to claim his hat-trick….Goal!!!!!!!!

Again the Eagles relentlessly pushed forward and Corey played a ball to Josh who found Reece who managed to get his shot on target as the tackle came in. Shortly after Ewan played in Charlie who was unlucky not to get a shot away. Then a clever throw in from Dean forced the defender to put the ball out for a corner. From this corner taken by Josh, Charlie came short and played a nice passing move with Josh who whipped the ball in for Ewan whose shot was just wide - a lovely classic move from the Eagles.

The Eagles kept the pressure on with good defending from Reece, Luis and Dean. Shortly afterwards Charlie made a good run down the wing and forced a corner. Dean played it short to Charlie who gave it back to Dean to strike at goal but with no luck. In the final attack of the game, Josh’s throw in fell to Dean who passed to his brother, Corey, whose effort was unfortunate not to find the net.

A ‘good day in the office’ and it finally looks like some of the work being done on the training pitch is starting to pay off. Next up a league match away to Blaby Bulls Bullets – here’s hoping for another strong performance.

Oadby Owls Eagles v Rugby Town Pumas - 15th September 2013 (Group Game)

A home Group match awaited the Eagles this week against the Rugby Town Pumas.

The game kicked off playing uphill in strong winds and rain which made it a hard day’s work for both teams. The Eagles were first to get into their stride with a good run down the wing from Luis, determined defence work from Caiden & strong kicking from Jacob which was troubling the pumas defence.

Good passing from Corey & Charlie forced a corner, shortly followed by a swiftly taken throw in from Luis to Isaac resulting in another corner. The next attack came from the Pumas who broke quickly only to be foiled by the good reading of the game by Jacob who came out and gathered the ball safely.

The first goal was to come from a free kick; Isaac stepped up and fired the ball high into the net from fully 20 yards out, giving the keeper no chance - what a strike….GOAL !!!!! (See Coach Michael’s leg in the photo as he struck it!!)

With the weather playing a big part it was becoming difficult for the Eagles to play but Luis showed his pace down the wing, Charlie worked hard, Corey had an unlucky shot at goal and Isaac played a clever pass to Luis that Ronaldo would have been proud of. Meanwhile at the back there was good solid defensive play from Caiden & Dean. With the half coming to a close Dean was making good blocks and clearances. Luis and Josh linked up well to force a corner but it was gathered by the keeper. The Pumas however were to have the last word of the half with an equaliser before Luis had a strong shot on goal.

With the weather getting better (ish), the Eagles took to the field for the 2nd half with the wind behind them & playing downhill. They began to take the game by the scruff of the neck and pushed on with good passing from Josh resulting in Ewan finding the side netting with a fierce shot. Suddenly a quick throw in by Ewan fell to Josh who played a lovely pass to Luis for him to slot home & give the Eagles the lead…GOAL !!!!

The Eagles were clearly enjoying the more open play with a shot from Ewan saved by the keeper and another cross from Josh that found Luis who was unlucky with his shot. Luis made a good run through the Pumas midfield, riding tackles, whilst Dean was tidying up at the back with firm but well-timed tackles. The Eagles next attack gained reward after Josh crossed to Reece whose shot was saved by the keeper but Luis was in the right place for the rebound… GOAL !!!

Reece was now a handful in midfield including a lovely back heel, whilst Ewan was still testing the keeper with some good shots. A great solo effort from Josh brought the Eagles their next goal - after jigging past a couple of defenders he put a good shot into the bottom corner…. GOAL !!!!!!!

This spurred the Eagles on for more, with Ewan whipping in a corner which just missed Luis’s head and some good slick passing between Isaac and Ewan. Desperately the Pumas tried to push forward on the counter-attack but again Jacob was at hand with a great double save. They did break through however with a great free kick which gave Jacob no chance with.

This however didn’t deter the Eagles from attacking with Ewan showing great perseverance and laying the ball off to Josh whose shot was saved. Charlie also played a great pass to Josh who got a shot away but to no avail. At the back Caiden made a massive clearance and along with Corey made some good block tackles.  The final goal of the game resulted from another good pass from Ewan to Josh who with a couple of steps found space to drive the ball home… GOAL !!!!

The game came to a close with Caiden and Reece (despite his now regular weekly cut lip!) pressing well to stop any Puma attack.

A great team display as the Eagles continue to grow in confidence with each match. Next Sunday is a friendly v Whetstone Pumas which will really be a measure for how far we’ve come this season – hopefully a victory will follow!

Borough Alliance v Oadby Owls Eagles - 8th September 2013 (Group Game)

After an action packed and exciting pre-season, the Eagles took another trip to Market Harborough for the opening game of the season to face Borough Alliance.

The Eagles got the match underway with some fantastic quick passing between Josh, Luis and Isaac with the Borough defence looking nervous from the off. The first chance of the match fell to Josh on the edge of the box and wasted no time showing the keeper what to expect with a fierce shot just wide of the post.

Borough began to fight their way into the game and snatched the opening goal which was poked into the corner of the net. Having gone a goal behind this fired up the Eagles who instantly looked like scoring with intense pressure and shots from Luis and Josh both coming close.

The ball came to Jacob who spotted Josh screaming for the ball and launched the ball route one down field leaving Josh one on one with only the keeper to beat. He calmly slotted home with the equaliser. GOAL!!!!

The Eagles began to control the game with Corey dominating the middle of the pitch and Caiden and Dean looking as solid as usual at the back. It was only a matter of time before the Eagles struck again with fantastic shots coming from Luis, Josh and Corey all forcing the Borough goal keeper into some fine saves. Borough kept going and were trying to counter attack when possible but with Isaac, Dean and Caiden all getting back in numbers they were making it desperately difficult for the Borough striker to keep the ball.

Josh picked up the ball on the right wing and set off down the line skipping past several Borough players when he spotted the keeper off his line and fancied his chance. He struck the ball perfectly straight into the back of the net which gave the Eagles the advantage they thoroughly deserved. GOAL!!!!

Having scored twice in quick succession, Josh was looking for his hat-trick and unselfishly layed the ball off to Corey forcing the borough keeper to push the ball wide for a corner. The first half carried on as it began with great play from the back with slick passing out wide. Ewan played the ball into Reece who then flicked it to Josh who needed no encouragement to let fly with a terrific strike leaving the keeper with no chance. GOAL!!!!!

Ewan and Luis were now causing problems for the Borough defence problems out wide with their pace going forward producing some fantastic crosses into Josh with yet another effort on goal forcing another save from the keeper. Brilliant first half.

The second half began with the opposition looking to get back into the game but yet again Isaac picking the ball up from deep and calmly playing it to Caiden forcing Borough to chase the game.

Charlie was causing the defence problems, quickly closing down the Borough defence and forcing errors. Mid-way through the second half Borough pulled a goal back after the Eagles were caught napping. Several more chances followed but were no threat thanks to the safe hands of Jacob.

It was now end to end with Ewan firing shots just wide. From a goal kick, Charlie read the pass and intercepted it beautifully and was unfortunate that it went out for a throw in. Reece came into the game with some brilliant turns wriggling through the midfield. Charlie then whipped in a fine cross finding Reece perfectly in the box striking just wide of the keepers post.

Borough played the ball through only to find Jacob quickly off his line with a perfect pass out to Luis out wide & with quick footwork he was brought down for a free kick. Charlie and Corey were now battling away in midfield when Corey picked the ball up, thundered through the Borough defence with such determination and finished with an unstoppable left foot rocket leaving the keeper with no chance. GOAL!!!!

The Eagles were once again controlling the game with another great effort from Luis outside the box going just wide. The opposition fought back but to no avail thanks to many crunching tackles by Dean.

Borough were now throwing everything they had forward and a long range effort from wide was almost kept out by Jacob who was desperately close to keeping the ball but it crept in. This led to a fantastic last few minutes with both teams coming close but the Eagles maintained their strength and composure and got the result they deserved. Full time.

The game finished with a penalty shootout which saw some great strikes from both teams. Jacob who had been as reliable as ever throughout the match concluded with some fantastic saves.

All in all, an exciting match which saw some fantastic passing and a great team effort, a great start to the season.

Glen Villa v Oadby Owls Eagles - 1st September 2013 (Friendly Game)

A warm sunny morning welcomed the two teams on to the pitch for what would be a hard fought pre-season friendly match.

The Eagles started the brighter, with good runs down the wings from Luis & Reece whilst at the back Dean & Caiden were rock solid. It would take something special to get past our determined defence today! The first strong attack of the game came when Luis made an excellent run down the wing & put in a good cross taken well by Villa's keeper. This was followed by another attack - Reece let fly with an accurate shot only to be put out by the keeper; the resulting corner was taken short & a cross by Josh was placed just wide by Reece under pressure from defenders.

The first half was now being dominated by the Eagles; Reece was making pace down the wing & produced a fine long range shot only to be denied by a very capable keeper. Meanwhile Dean in defence was making tough but fair tackles enabling the Eagles to frequently push forward & counter attack.A couple of subs jigged the attack which allowed Josh to run down the wing & make a good cross to Charlie who was denied by a nasty bobble on the pitch! More attacks followed, with shots from Reece & a great effort from Josh which the keeper tipped over the bar much to the frustration of Josh who was ready to celebrate. With the half coming to an end, Glen Villa were awarded a free kick but this was well blocked by Dean.

The 2nd half found Glen Villa with more vigour which resulted in a more end to end game. The Eagles were handed a free kick, after a good run from Corey, which was taken well by Reece but he couldn’t find the back of the net.  The opening goal came after a good spell by the Eagles – a goal kick from Jacob found Corey who made a good run to gain a throw in. From his throw in, Reece played the ball to Luis who found the back of the net with power……GOAL!!!!!!!!!

This breakthrough spurred the Eagles on with good passing from Ewan & Corey & shots from Reece & Charlie, including a short corner from Luis to Ewan who let fly, only to be well blocked by a defender. The Eagles 2nd came from a corner – an accurate delivery from Luis to the near post found Reece who connected first time & he slotted home a good low shot to the keeper’s left……GOAL!!!!!!!!!

More shots were to rain down on the Villa goal from Ewan & Luis, with good support play from Reece, Luis & Dean. Whilst at the back Ewan, Josh & Caiden were making strong tackles. There was even a short corner followed by a one-touch passing move that any Premiership team would have been proud of. Glen Villa started to come into the game more seeking a goal but were denied by the dependable Jacob who was producing some very fine saves, along with more defensive work from Caiden & Josh (who took one on the nose for the team - ouch!!!)  The Eagles wanted another though & after a great pass from Caiden & a good run & pass from Ewan, Charlie was cruelly denied again.

Crisp passing from Luis & Corey gave Josh a shot from the edge of the box going just wide. With the game edging to full time Glen Villa got their break after an interception from a goal kick, allowing them to slot home. Villa pressed for an equaliser but were denied by perfectly timed tackles & clearances from Caiden & Ewan. The Eagles were to have one last chance from a free kick - taken well by Josh but it just missed the head of Luis who was well placed in the box.

All in all a solid team performance & we’re looking to take this form into the weekend’s match away to Borough Alliance in our first league match.
