St Andrews Corinthians V Oadby Owls Eagles - 17th November 2013 (Group Game)

The Eagles entered into the final group game before Christmas with some trepidation knowing that St Andrews are an excellent team with a similar record to us so far this season.

But straight from the kick-off Ishan had a chance that went narrowly wide. Despite the early disruption caused by Raza having to be replaced by Geordan because of injury, the Eagles managed to create several good opportunities before Ishan opened the scoring after a great pass from Heath. This was quickly followed by another Ishan goal after an astute interception from Heath.

Despite excellent defending from Geordan and William they were unable to prevent St Andrews scoring with a towering header from a corner. An end-to-end first half came to a finish with Ishan completing his hat-trick to restore our 2 goal cushion.

The second-half saw St Andrews fastest out of the blocks to score an early goal. Undeterred, solid attacking pressure allowed Heath to unleash a long range effort from the right wing that crashed off the crossbar leaving the quick witted Jamie to pounce on the loose ball.

With the 2 goal lead restored (again) that should have been that but St Andrews showed how good they are by striking twice in the space of 3 minutes to bring the scores level. At this point the game could have gone either way with both teams taking it in turns to attack. Fortunately another cracking long range effort from Heath saw the Eagles break the deadlock. But even this didn’t break the St Andrews’ resistance and it took a brave one-on-one save from Kieran and a goal from William to finally settle the match.

Another goal from William and Anas’s first of the season added a gloss to the score line that didn’t really reflect the closeness of the game and how well the Eagles had to play to overcome a very good team in St Andrews.

Player of the Day: Heath

Goals Scorers: Ishan (3), William (2), Jamie (1), Heath (1), Anas(1)

Oadby Owls Eagles v Blaby & Whetstone Kings - 10th November 2013 (Group Game)

Oadby made a lively start with most of the play concentrated in the Blaby half. There was some good passing and link up play between Ishan and Geordan who both created a lot of chances but failed to score. The heavy pressure from Oadby continued and Jamie broke free to score  a well taken goal just before half time.

The pattern of play continued and soon after the break Bobby ran through to score. Straight from the kick off Bobby added his second with a clinical finish. Midway through the half with Blaby now offering little resistance. Jamie broke through to score his second . In the last five minutes Oadby added 3 more goals, the first from a long shot by William parried by the Blaby keeper and slotted in by Jamie for his hat trick

Immediately from the kick off  Ishan ran clear and slotted in. A shot from distance was well followed up by Heath to score right at the end.

Oadby Owls Eagles V Whetstone Pumas - 20th October 2013 (Group Game)

With ten minutes of the first half gone Eagles were playing extremely well and a pass from Heath to Ishan saw the ball go over the goal. Within minutes William took control of the ball and passing to Ishan he fired it into the back of the net. A corner taken by Heath lead to a half volley from Ishan and the ball hits the back of the net.

Eagles kept the ball in the oppositions half and after an excellent shot on goal by Heath the ball went slightly wide. Keeper Kieran had no chance at saving the goal scored by Whetstone straight from a corner.

Moral still high the team were playing well and Ishan and William took the ball straight to Whetstones goal….Hat trick for Ishan!! Roles were soon reversed and from a pass from Ishan William scored his first goal.

There seemed to be no stopping the Eagles and just before half time a massive kick from Bobbi gave William his second goal.

Second half saw the team playing different positions….what are Haf and Dee thinking the crowd were saying moving Geordan and Raza out of deffence?!!

The plan worked well and within five minutes Raza scored an amazing goal! The crowd were astounded at what was to follow with Razas second goal…a little tap on the ball and it flipped straight over the goalies head and rolled into the net!

Eagles were on a roll and there seemed to be no stopping the goals being scored. An excellent save by Keeper Kieran and the ball was back again in Whetstones half. This time it was Razzas pass to William that gave him his hat trick. Raza was denied his hat trick as the ball hit the post but with a tap on the ball Geordan made it on to the score sheet.

With four minutes to go could the Eagles possibly score any more goals?? Of course….Ishan scores his fourth goal and just before the final whistle William does the same!!

Player of the Day: Raza

Goals Scorers: Ishan (4), William (4), Raza (2), Geordan (1)

Oadby Owls Eagles v Rugby Town Tigers  - 22nd September 2013 (Group Game)

After the goal fest of the Eagles first match, confidence was extremely high. Unfortunately the unavoidable absence of 2 key players (“clean sheet” Kieran and “hat-trick” Jamie) meant Anas and Geordan shared goal keeping duties and there would be no option to rest players on an unseasonably hot September Sunday.

After a bright opening it soon became apparent that Rugby were not going to be a pushover and were a VERY good team. The whole Eagles team defended as a unit and kept their shape well against a quick and powerful Rugby team. Bobby and Raza defended excellently particularly when faced with the huge Rugby throw-ins which at times were as good as corners.

Heath, Geordan and William in midfield were able to create several chances for themselves and the striker Ishan with some clever passing and moving. Unfortunately, just as the first half was coming to an end another long throw caused confusion in the Eagles defence and allowed Rugby to open the scoring. But there was still time for William to play a great through ball to Ishan who managed to just reach it before the on-rushing keeper and sneak it into the goal to equalize.

The second half saw Geordan replace Anas in goal and the Eagles taking full advantage of the sloping pitch to create a flurry of early chances, with a great pass by Heath to Ishan who was denied by a brave Rugby keeper diving at his feet being a particular highlight. Unfortunately, the Eagles were undone by an excellent headed goal from a great Rugby corner.

Even though the Eagles were behind again they did not panic and kept pressing the Rugby team when they didn’t have the ball and when they did have it they looked to pass and move to create scoring opportunities. This constant pressure created a free-kick just outside the edge of the area which Bobby took. William was quickest to the loose ball after it had struck the wall and passed to Ishan who was able to poach his second goal of the game from about 1 yard out, a proper striker’s goal.

Even though Rugby were still very dangerous the momentum of the game was definitely with the Eagles and as result of tenacious closing down by Ishan a chance fell to Heath on the edge of the area which the keeper snuffed out by bravely diving at his feet. Unluckily for him though his momentum had taken him out of the area and a free kick was awarded on the right-hand edge of the penalty area. Bobby capped an excellent all round display by somehow squeezing his shot between the wall and the post.

The game finished with more chances for both teams but if honours were just about even in the first half then the second half definitely belonged to the Eagles and an excellent game ended with the score-line accurately showing how close the game was.

Player of the Day: Bobby

Goals Scorers: Ishan (2), Bobby (1)

Lutterworth v Oadby Owls Eagles - 15th September 2013 (Group Game)

The Eagles were fired up and raring to go for their first match of the season, and from the blow of the whistle they were displaying impressive teamwork with some excellent touches and passes, coming up through the midfield, A perfectly placed corner from Anas saw William get on the end of it to drive it home into the back of the net!  From then on it was end to end stuff, outstanding defending by Raza and Geordan denied Lutterworth any shots on goal. An Anas throw in saw William claim his 2nd goal of the match, and some lovely passing play between Bobbi and Ishan saw Ishan twist and turn around the defenders to score our 3rd goal before the half time whistle blew.  The second half saw Eagles dominate the game, a corner from Heath gave William his hatrick, a cross in from Anas saw Geordan on the scoresheet... timely runs down the wing and into the box saw Heath gain a Hatrick , and when Lutterworth did get past our defence our Goalkeeper Keiron was there to collect the ball in his safe hands... in  the last ten minutes of the game the Eagles were awarded a penalty which  Jamie placed in the bottom right hand corner , on two more occasions he also found the back of the net to gain a hatrick!!  An excellent team performance!

Goals Scorers: Geordan (1), Ishan (1), Heath (3), Jamie (3), William (3)
