  • Club History

Welcome to Oadby Owls Football Club.

Founded in 1968 by some enthusiastic Sheffield Wednesday supporters, hence the name, Oadby Owls Football Club has grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs in Leicestershire today.

The club owes a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers over the intervening years but perhaps none more so than our late President John Monks who ensured the survival of the club with injections of his own cash during the difficult times of the 1980′s.

In 2007 the club achieved Charter Standard status and with joint funding by the Football Foundation and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council the ‘John Monks Pavilion’ was opened.  The pavilion marked a new era for Oadby Owls and player numbers swelled considerably. Oadby Owls now fields 35 teams of all ages and runs a thriving Saturday Football Academy where upto 250 young children attend each week. Oadby Owls also organises some of the best tournaments in the country. The club has since progressed in becoming a Charter Standard Community Club.

The club adopts high standards and would like to pay tribute to all its 100+ volunteers for their perseverance and hard work. We also thank and praise our many sponsors who have given generously over many seasons.

As well as developing the football skills of its members, Oadby Owls positively promotes and interacts with local community initiatives.

Oadby Owls is run on an entirely voluntary basis and there is always a need for a fresh influx of helpers and ideas. The future success of the club depends on its members as we strive to become one of the best clubs in the country.

Carib Sports & Social v Oadby Owls Snowys – 2nd October 2011 (Friendly)

With no training in the week this was the Snowys first chance to work on lessons learnt from the last game. The Snowys started strong and composed with everyone working hard and trying new positions which all took to well. The Snowys welcomed backed Joe Marvin after his broken foot and he took to the GK role like a duck to water always being alert to the Carib attacks and keeping a clean sheet.  Two goals each for Joseph Ball and Matteo Galoppi and a whole heap of chances for the rest of the Snowys proved too much for Carib who stayed strong in their challenges the whole game (sometimes too strong). Well done to all our players for their conduct during and after the game.

Player of the Day: Elijah Rahman

Goals Scorers: Matteo Galoppi (2) and Joseph Ball (2)

Oadby Owls Snowys v Aylestone Park – 25th September 2011 (Group game)

This game was chosen to give the Snowys a real test and provide them with something to work on. To bolster the squad the snowys recruited U8 players Luca and Ralf(GK). The snowys started really brightly keeping the ball in Aylestone’s half for the first 5 mins forcing corner after corner. But despite every player doing very well the difference in age and experience started to show on the small Oadby pitch. Throughout the game the snowys shown signs the gap between the teams wasn’t as big as the score suggests and were rewarded with an excellent team goal clinically finished by Alex MacDonald and a superb individual effort by Luca Galoppi.

Allexton & New Parks v Oadby Owls Snowys  - 18th September 2011 (Group game)

On a fine morning with a string of good results behind them the snowys went to Allexton full of confidence and almost expecting the win, only to come across a strong and determined Allexton team who themselves were confident of a victory. This lead to a real battle and end to end football of an extremely high standard. First half GK Jack Burton and defenders Joel Zarzycki and Elijah Rahman proved too tough to break down, and with a lively Archie Lee covering every blade of grass the snowys started to create chances. With pressure mounting the snowys sufferd a setback when a brave Alex MacDonald  went in to a 50/50 challenge on the edge of the Allexton area took a whack on the knee and had to leave the field for a while. Half time came with the score 0-0 and the snowys perhaps just edging it.

The snowys improved as the game went on with Michael Donaghey adding strength at the back and Jack Burton injecting energy into the midfield which started to click with some fine passing and movement from Joseph Ball , Alex MacDonald and Matteo Galoppi eventually leading to a goal from Matteo Galoppi when his shot into the corner of the goal was too hot for their keeper to handle. The goal lead to an Allexton fight back putting the snowys under lots of pressure which only increased when the committed Alex MacDonald again suffered a knock when making a defensive challenge on the edge of the snowys box. In the last minute, second half GK Elijah Rahman made a magnificent save securing the game for the Snowys.

Desford Juniors v Oadby Owls Snowys – 11th September 2011 (Group game)

The Snowys went into this friendly fixture missing a couple of regular players so called upon the services of the Tawnys GK Jeevan Hundal and new to the academy Anas Radwan who both settled in well and had good games.

The Snowys took the lead early on from the penalty spot after Joseph Ball was brought down in the box when in on goal, the penalty was drilled home by Michael Donaghey . As the game went on  it proved to be a really close affair with both teams having lots of chances before Desford got a well deserved goal catching the Snowys on the break making it 1-1 at half time.

The second half started the way the first finished with both teams creating chances. Once again the Snowys were well protected by Joel Zarzycki partnered this week by Michael Donaghey in defence giving the forward players the confidence to go forward . With some excellent box to box play coming from Alex MacDonald the Snowys soon took the lead again with some excellent movement and finish from Matteo Galoppi. With Jack Burton back to his best with a 100% committed display he was given the chance to get on the score sheet when the Snowys were awarded another penalty which he rifled into the top of the net. Joseph Ball then shown a clean pair of heels to the Desford defence only to have his shot saved, but when the keeper spilled it he was first to react poking the ball home from close range. A mistake from a free kick in the Snowys own half then gifted Desford a second goal when they made the most of a 1 on 1 with the keeper. All in all a very good display all round from the Snowys well done everyone keep up the good work.

Goals Scorers: Michael Donaghey, Jack Burton, Matteo Galoppi and Joseph Ball

Quorn Foxes v Oadby Owls Snowys – 4th September 2011 (Group game)

The Snowys got off to a good start when Archie Lee struck in a crowded penalty area. It wasn’t long before Joseph Ball extended the lead with a neat finish. The Snowys then came under some pressure and conceded on the stroke of half time.

The Snowys started the second half on fire with some fantastic wing play from Matteo Galoppi creating two more goals for Joseph Ball before scoring his first, with the extra strength in midfield coming from Michael Donaghey and the commanding defensive partnership of Joel Zarzycki and Jack Burton any Quorn attacks were comfortably dealt with allowing the goal machine Joseph Ball to grab his fourth and the skilful Matteo Galoppi to make it 8-1 after two fine goals to get his hat trick. A rare mix up at the back allowed Quorn to get a second against the run of play. Alex MacDonald then capped off a fine all round display with a long range effort after spotting the Quorn keeper over to one side of his goal.

Player of the Day: Joseph Ball

Goals Scorers: Joseph Ball (4), Matteo Galoppi (3), Alex MacDonald and Archie Lee
