  • Club History

Welcome to Oadby Owls Football Club.

Founded in 1968 by some enthusiastic Sheffield Wednesday supporters, hence the name, Oadby Owls Football Club has grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs in Leicestershire today.

The club owes a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers over the intervening years but perhaps none more so than our late President John Monks who ensured the survival of the club with injections of his own cash during the difficult times of the 1980′s.

In 2007 the club achieved Charter Standard status and with joint funding by the Football Foundation and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council the ‘John Monks Pavilion’ was opened.  The pavilion marked a new era for Oadby Owls and player numbers swelled considerably. Oadby Owls now fields 35 teams of all ages and runs a thriving Saturday Football Academy where upto 250 young children attend each week. Oadby Owls also organises some of the best tournaments in the country. The club has since progressed in becoming a Charter Standard Community Club.

The club adopts high standards and would like to pay tribute to all its 100+ volunteers for their perseverance and hard work. We also thank and praise our many sponsors who have given generously over many seasons.

As well as developing the football skills of its members, Oadby Owls positively promotes and interacts with local community initiatives.

Oadby Owls is run on an entirely voluntary basis and there is always a need for a fresh influx of helpers and ideas. The future success of the club depends on its members as we strive to become one of the best clubs in the country.

Aylestone Park v Oadby Owls Snowys  - 2nd October 2011 (Group Game)

Snowys Sunk by Set Pieces

On a hot Summers afternoon in October the Snowys sunk to a stuttering defeat. Within the first minute the Snowys were rocked by a breakaway goal which looped over Yuvraj Bhuhi’s head. The Snowys then played good possession football sporadically but did not threaten the Aylestone Park goal. In the second half Luca Galoppi and Reece Watchorn  broke up numerous Aylestone Park attacks with great well timed tackles and propelled Oadby forward with useful balls into the channels. Harry Hawkins who switched to centre midfield was industrious and had a couple of shots just wide. Louie Hart worked tirelessly on the right wing. The Snowys conceded a second goal from a well taken corner which bounced around in the box. The third was conceded direct from a free kick and the fourth directly from an Oadby goal kick. The Snowys had some good passing interplays late on in the game but failed to get a consolation goal.

Player of the Day: Luca Galoppi

Oadby Owls Snowys v Blaby & Whetstone  - 11th September 2011 (Group Game)

Snowys blitz Blaby & Whetstone

On a bright but windy morning the Snowys turned on the style to blow away Blaby. Every player contributed to a magnificent display. The desire to win the ball back immediately and use it intelligently with composure was a joy to behold. Wind assisted in the first half the Snowys went 5-0 up with goals from Louie Hart, Sammy Braybrooke, Lennon Orton, Joshua Shenton and Kaden Stokes. The Snowys continued in the same vein in the second half and scored a further six goals from Joshua Shenton, Lennon Orton, Kaden Stokes (2), Theo Tatham-Grant, and Sammy Braybrooke.

Oadby Owls Snowys v Braunstone Trinity – 28th August 2011 (Group Game)

Patchy Snowys Poach Draw

On a beautiful Summers morning the Snowys got the season off to a slow start. Facing newcomers Braunstone Trinity with a depleted squad the Snowys looked pensive and ponderous. They threatened early down the wings through Joshua Shenton and Harry Hawkins but both found the Braunstone defence determined and resolute. Braunstone’s occasional attacks were stifled by some fine tackling and organisational play from Luca Galoppi and Reece Watchorn in defence. The Snowys had the most notable chances of the half, Harry Hawkins had a goalbound freekick saved and other strikes from Theo Tatham-Grant and Joshua Shenton ricocheted off defenders and away from goal. At halftime it remained goalless.

Braunstone posed more of a threat in the second half, assisted by the wind which made for a pulsating entertaining half. The Snowys lacked drive and conceded a close range goal after the ball meandered across the penalty area. This injected some urgency into the Snowys play and they were rewarded with an equaliser when Louie Hart broke up play in the centre circle spread the play right to Harry Hawkins who took one touch and unleashed a ferocious shot into the far corner of the net and celebrated Tarzan style, taking his shirt off and beating his chest.

Player of the Day: Reece Watchorn

Goals Scorers: Harry Hawkins
