  • Club History

Welcome to Oadby Owls Football Club.

Founded in 1968 by some enthusiastic Sheffield Wednesday supporters, hence the name, Oadby Owls Football Club has grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs in Leicestershire today.

The club owes a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers over the intervening years but perhaps none more so than our late President John Monks who ensured the survival of the club with injections of his own cash during the difficult times of the 1980′s.

In 2007 the club achieved Charter Standard status and with joint funding by the Football Foundation and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council the ‘John Monks Pavilion’ was opened.  The pavilion marked a new era for Oadby Owls and player numbers swelled considerably. Oadby Owls now fields 35 teams of all ages and runs a thriving Saturday Football Academy where upto 250 young children attend each week. Oadby Owls also organises some of the best tournaments in the country. The club has since progressed in becoming a Charter Standard Community Club.

The club adopts high standards and would like to pay tribute to all its 100+ volunteers for their perseverance and hard work. We also thank and praise our many sponsors who have given generously over many seasons.

As well as developing the football skills of its members, Oadby Owls positively promotes and interacts with local community initiatives.

Oadby Owls is run on an entirely voluntary basis and there is always a need for a fresh influx of helpers and ideas. The future success of the club depends on its members as we strive to become one of the best clubs in the country.

Oadby Owls Tawnys v Melton Foxes – 2nd October 2011 (Group game)

Playing at probably the hottest part of the day, the Tawnys struggled to contain a strong Melton side that didn’t give us a second on the ball to allow us to play our passing game. Melton peppered our goal but keeper Finley made some fantastic saves, Charlie was also denied twice by some great goal keeping from the Melton keeper, but just before half time Melton took the lead.

Second half we were going downhill and we started to come into the game a bit more, we pushed for an equalizer but were hit by a Melton second goal, but to be fair the lads they kept working hard and pushed to get into the game, with chances either being saved or going inches wide, we finally got the goal we had been looking for with a sweet volley from Brandan from the edge of the area, this set up a tense final 7 minutes but we couldn’t get the equaliser.

Player of the Day: Finley Palmer

Goals Scorers: Brandan Piper

Ravenstone Youth v Oadby Owls Tawnys – 11th September 2011 (Group game)

On a very windy day the Tawnys got off the block very quickly and went 1 nil up inside the second minute with Charlie Hart getting the first of his hat-trick. We continued to play some attractive football going forward, and then Brandan Piper got the first of his hat-trick with one of his trade mark runs down the right wing and a powerful low shot into the bottom corner, the third goal came very quickly again with Cameron Stewart almost copying Brandan’s goal, going down the left wing and finishing into the bottom corner with his left foot. Before half time Charlie and Brandan had added to their first goals, so 5-0 at half time. The second half we had the wind with us and Luther on as a second half sub finished a superb individual goal by going past 3 tackles and hitting the roof of the net with his shot, again we continued to play excellent football going forward and this allowed Fynton Errington to go on determined run from defence and slotting into the bottom left corner, which brought out the summersault celebration! We quickly again got the chance to have a shot at goal from a free kick outside the box which allowed Harry Naylor to have swing with his sweet left foot, but it struck the post with some venom. Charlie and Brandan then bagged there hat-tricks with some fantastic ball winning work and passing from Cole Smith and also some help from the wind, we again got another free kick outside the box which defender Rylan Stephan’s took and hit a lovely right footed shot into the bottom corner, the last goal came from a great Luther corner which was headed into his own net from a Ravenstone defender. One last mention must go out to Finley Palmer our goalkeeper who when called upon in the game which was only once or twice he made great saves at the feet of the attackers, Finley also made 3 great saves in the penalty shootout that we had at the end of the game. This topped off great performance from the boys.

Player of the Day: The whole team

Goals Scorers: Brandan Piper (3), Charlie Hart (3), Cameron Stewart, Ryland Stephens, Luther Munakandafa, Fynton Errington and own goal.
